English Crown Grants in the Parishes St David, St Patrick,

St. Thomas and St. Mary in Georgia 1755-1775

by Marion R. Hemperley
Surveyor General Department   State of Georgia

Listed here are some English crown grants of St. Mary’s and St. Thomas’s Parish.  In the area between the Altamaha and the St. Mary’s Rivers four parishes were created. They were St. David, St. Patrick, St. Thomas and St. Mary, and by the Georgia Constitution of 1777, the first two became Glynn County and the latter two became Camden County. Georgia became a Royal Province and under the English Crown and its Royal Governors, free simple grants were made to the land which gave a clear title to the grantees. These Royal Grants, in the Georgia Surveyor General Department of the Office of the Secretary of State, begin in 1755.  There are some 5000 of these recorded, but only those of St. Mary’s and St. Thomas listed here.
