Clay County
(Named for
Senator Henry Clay of Kentucky 1777-1852)
Created by the State of Georgia in 1854 from Early and
Randolph Counties. The first census was done in 1860.
Ft. Gaines, the county seat lies on the Chattahoochee river.
Clay County lies on the Georgia-Alabama border,
in southwest Georgia.
