A tax digest is not a viable genealogical tool but it does list property owners for the tax year. The digest is helpful perhaps in indicating a death where either the widow's nameis shown as owner of property, or perhaps an agent is filing the tax on behalf of the estatewhich might indicate a recent death.    The first column is the district number (in 1892)where the property is located. The districts changed later since Poplar Springs included the community of Steadman.
