Do you ever wonder how Tallapoosa was laid out in 1895.  Visit the University of Georgia Map Collection.  The maps in this collection are the Sanborn Fire Insurance maps and shows street layouts, names of buildings, etc.  A great site: HARALSON CO. MAPS

The below map shows the Militia Districts (green) and the old school districts(red).  As the county grew district numbers changed.  Some districts are not included because I could not locate them. For instance, Repose, Newsville.  If you have the district number from a census hopefully the map will help locate the approximate area where your family resided.
