Above: The second Steadman school, located 1/4 mile south of Steadman Baptist Church.  (photographer unknown). On left is the country store which was still doing business in the 1950's. Note: This picture was made before gas tanks were installed at the store.  Also note the horse and buggy in front of the schoolhouse. This was the second Steadman school.  A portion of the first Steadman school still stands today and is located near the house behind the store.  (Photos donated by C. Carter).

STEADMAN SCHOOL PRIOR TO 1920
The following photograph is published courtesy of The Tallapoosa Journal, and is titled "Older Class Steadman School before 1920 during the celebration of the cotton harvest." Published in the Journal July 29, 1997.

As a matter of information, schools were in session after the harvest season until planting time in the spring.  Schools restarted after the crops were laid-by, then closed again for harvest of the crops.
