Va., district of Halifax and Augusta, d. Mar. 18,
1806, Elbert Co., Ga. Nat. D.A.R. No. 410539. -
Ancestor of Joseph Baker Hill, J. Tharpe Hill, Mae
Hill Puree, Miram Hill Buck and Stella Hill Yates.

Maj. George ANDERSON, b. 1738, Va., d. 1808. He
was buried eight miles from Anderson, S. C. He
served in 5th S.C. Regiment under Gen. Nathaniel
Greene.

Capt. Andrew BERRY, b. 1746, d. June 1811. During
the Revolution, he was Captain of the U. S.
Rangers and was wounded at Musgroves Mill. Kate
BARRY, wife of Capt. Andrew Barry, b. 1752, d.
Sept. 1823. She acted as a scout for her husband's
company. The D.A.R. chapter at Spartanburg, S. C.
is named for her. Richard BARRY was signer of the
Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. -

John CHATFIELD, II, b. Mar. 5, 1729 at
Killingsworth, Conn., d. New foundland where he
went on a whaling voyage after the Revolutionary
War. John CHATFIELD, III, b. 1754. He served one
year in Capt. Fithian Sill's company and five
years in Col. Hunnington's Conn. Regiment. He
fought in Battles of White Plains, Brandywine,
Monmouth and Stony Point. -Ancestors of Euna Dumas

Philip COMBS, Sr., b. Va., d. Mar. 24, 1838, in
Wilkes Co., Ga. He re ceived bounty lands for
service. Listed in McCalls Revolutionary Soldiers
in Ga. -Ancestor of Ruth Thompson Bittick (Mrs. L.
C., Sr.)

Capt. Charles CRAWFORD, b. Dec. 23, 1738 in
Amherst Co., Va., d. Oct. 22, 1813, Columbia Co.,
Ga. He was Captain of 2nd N. C. Regiment raised
Aug. 1775 and called into active service out of
state in Continental Line. Capt. Crawford fought
at seige of Savannah and was taken prisoner at
Augusta. Ref. John Wheeler's Historical Sketch of
N. C. p. 71; Heitman's Historical Register of
Officers of Continental Army. He lived to fight in
War of 1812. -Ancestor of Elizabeth Rhodes Collier

Fayette Co., Ga. He served in the Ga. Troops under
Co. Elijah Clarke. He also served in S. C. at the

Nathan GRANTHAM Nat. D.A.R. No. 30186. He served
in Col. Brown's Regiment N. C. Line and was buried
in 1836 in Louisiana, Parish of E. Baton Rouge.

Charles HAMMOND, b. 1716, d. 1794. He and his four
sons (Abner, Samuel, Charles and LeRoy) and a

Jenkins, Nellie Grant, Lois Grant Bryant and

Benjamin HAYGOOD, Sr., b. June 20, 1758, Orange
Co., N. C., d. Jan. 4, 1841, Monroe Co., Ga. It is
assumed that he is buried in Haygood-
StroudThompson-Zellner Cemetery near Strouds, Ga.
He enlisted in Chatham Co., N. C. in 1775 as a
private and served under Gen. Folsum throughout
the war, first in Capt. George Herndon's N. C.
Company and afterwards in Capt. Wilcox's N. C.

Jessie HEARD, b. Va. Will probated Mar. 7, 1803,
Wilkes Co., Ga. Stephen HEARD, b. Tyrone Co.,
Ireland, d. Va. -Ancestors of Dean Martin.

Capt. Benjamin HOLMES, b. Aug. 23, 1758,
Northampton, Mass., d. 1816 Wilkes Co., Ga. and
was buried there. He served as a lieutenant in the
John Willis Co. 2nd Va. Regiment commanded by
Alexander Spotswood and later by Col. Christian
Fabiger. He received a Provincial Commission as
Ensign Feb. 29, 1775 and was commissioned in the
U. S. service Jan. 25,1776 as a 1st lieutenant. On
Apr. 20, 1778, he was promoted to captain. He
received a pension for Revolutionary service.

b. 1744 in Richmond, Va., d. 1826 in Warren Co.,
Ga. He was wounded in the thigh with a musketball
by the enemy. . . released from prison in
Wilmington when Cornwallis surrendered. William
Jordan was one of the members of the Ga. Society
of the Cincinnati. -Ancestor of Julia F. Searcy,

Joseph LAWTON, b. Oct. 18, 1753, Edisto Island, S.
C., d. Mar. 5, 1815, at his Mulberry Grove
Plantation, Black Swamp, St. Peters Parish,
Beaufort District, S. C. He served as a lieutenant
in Col. Bull's Regiment. Proof of service appears
in Auditor Generals' account book. (Apr. 1778-Feb.

1756 in Anson Co., N. C., d. prior to Sept. 20,
1837 in Montgomery Co., Ala., where he was buried.
He served in Troop S under Capt. G. Bradley and
Col. Hogan. I Richard MOSELEY was a patriot
furnishing material aid to the Continental Army at
Powhatan Co., Va. Following his death (1781), his
estate continued to furnish supplies to the

Dr. George MOSSE, b. 1745 in Ireland, d. Feb.
17,1807 at Black Swamp, Robertville, S. C. Dr.
Mosse, a graduate of Dublin University, Ireland,
came to America before the Revolutionary War and
settled at St. Helena, S. C. During the war, he
was taken prisoner but escaped from the prison
ship at Charleston and returned to his duties as
physician and surgeon in the Colonial Army. -

Thomas PERSONS, b. 1733 Surry Co., Va., d. 1800 in
Granville, N. C. He was leader of the Anti-Federal
Party, member of the Provincial Council and member
of the committee to form a Bill of Rights and
Constitution for State of N. C. Persons Hall at
State University at Chapel Hill, N. C. is named
for him. -Ancestors of Mary Persons. Reuben
POUND, d. 1797. He served in 2nd Ga. Battalion and
received a bounty-grant in Washington Co., Ga. He
is listed in Knight's Roster of Revolutionary
Soldiers p. 273 and his record of service is on
file in office of the secretary of state, State
Capitol, Atlanta, Ga. as well as in National
Archives, Washington, D. C. -Ancestor of Ruth
Moran Chapman (Mrs. P. R.). John RAINES, b. 1726
in Bristol Parish, Va. He was one of six
Virginians of the same name who served in the

enlisted in the Continental Army as a private
soldier and served throughout the Revolution,
being present at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis
at Yorktown. -Ancestor of Rosa McGee Pryse (Mrs.

McGee, Julia F. Searcy, Albert H. Searcy, Sibyl S.

Moses WATKINS was a private in the Infantry of the
Regular Va. Continental Five. On Feb. 12, 1784,
Col. Gaskins was paid a certificate of $35.20 for

Capt. William WATSON, b. Dec. 11,1756, in
Philadelphia, Pa., d. 1817 in Pottsville, Pa. He
served in the First Battalion Gloucester Co., N.

delegates for Colonial Congress, one of twelve
selected for protection of the country, a
commissary in the army. -Ancestor of Mary Persons.

Thomas Ballard WYATT, b. 1755 in Spotsylvania Co.,
Va., d. 1831 in Newton Co., Ga. where he is
buried. He served with the Continental Army of the
State of Va. under Capt. Francis Smith and was
transferred to Capt. Black's company under Col.
Thomas Meriwether. -Ancestor of Louise Gulledge
Eckels (Mrs. J. W., Jr.).
