Salem Methodist Church - Photos by Larry Childs
The easiest way to find this church would be to take State Hwy 87 from Macon to
Monroe county go past the county line
and watch for Pea Ridge Road which will be on the left about seven or eight miles
out of Macon toward Jackson GA. Take a
left turn and go about two miles and you will come to Taylor road on the right
side go past that road and start watching
on the right side of the road. There is and old white Vinyl siding church on a
slight hill about 75 yards off the road.
It is well kept both the church yard and the cemetery. Note if you go past State
highway 18 coming from Macon you have
gone to far.
Based on a sign attached to Salem Church It was founded May 15, 1826. I
photographed this cemetery and
transcribed the cemetery from the photos.

WRIGHT CEMETERY by:lewiscrum@bellsouth.net Billy Crum

Wright Cemetery
The Wright Cemetery was in Land Lot 119 of the Fifth
District of Monroe County, previously owned by Thomas
Pinckard and was part of the land "appointed to Sarah
Pinckard as dower for the Estate of Thomas Pinckard,
deceased, guardian for the heirs of John W. G. Greer
(Sr.) deceased. (Deed book K 121)
On "8 November 1839 Sylvanus W. Burney to Sarah Pinckard
$10.00 for part of lot 119 (1/4 of an acre) it being the
present burial ground which said ¼ acre is to include all
the graves now in said burial ground." (Deed Book K 200)
Probably Pinckard, Greer and Wright family members were
buried there as they were connected by birth and
marriage. The last person whom we know to be buried there
was Johnny Greer, who was born about 1856 and died at
about three months of age.
According to the plat from Georgia Power Company there
were 12 graves, marked only by depressions in the ground.
The cemetery was a square area, about 50 to 75 feet
across with a stone and mortar wall about four feet high
and an iron gate. The wall was made of uncut stones but
was as straight and precisely made as if it were made of
brick. The cemetery, wall, and all, was reconstructed and
appears about the same as it did before it was moved.

Spier Cemetery by Larry Childs
This cemetery was re-located in 1975 - 1976 when Lake Juliette was built. Its
new location is on the left side of The Juliette united Methodist Church. The
cemetery along with Colvin family Cemetery, Wright family Cemetery and Driskell
family Cemetery all are enclosed in a fenced in area next to the church.
The Cemeteries have only small numbered markers as may be seen in some of the
photos. There are no headstones to tell us who is buried there.
Looking at the photo you can see the United Methodist Church and part of its
cemetery.
Any help identifying those who are buried there are welcome.

SINGLETON FAMILY CEMETERY by Col
George Lightfoot Singleton GSingle556@aol.com
The cemetery may be reached by taking Zebulon Road off Forsyth Road just north of
Wesleyan College in Bibb County and following it into Monroe
County for 9 miles to the point where Zebulon Road forks to the left with Moore
Road. Take Moore Road for approximately 2 1/2 miles. The
cemetery
is seen on the west side of the road and is quite visible from the road.
There is a house slightly northwestward from the cemetery occupied by the
family of Buford Mallory. There are 6 cedar, 2 white oak and 1 pine trees
standing in the immediate area of the cemetery.
The cemetery is surrounded by a wrought iron fence, which for the most part is
now separated into sections, some standing and some lying on the
ground. The north end section is still in place and so is the gate which is
on the northeast corner. All the sections of fence still seem to be in
existance at the site. The burial area surrounded by this fence is
approximately 8 feet wide by 18 feet in length.
There is seen inside the fence one very large brick grave and one monument.
The ends of the old brick grave stand approximately 4 feet square by 15
inches thick. There is a low brick wall connecting these ends on each side
of the grave. No inscriptions are found in the brickwork, although the ends
show an indenture where a plate type marker of metal, marble, or granite might
have existed in the past. Standing approximately 4 feet tall on the
north side of this sbrick grave is a white or light grey granite monument bearing
inscriptions. The base of this monument is about 32 inches long, 18
inches wide and 10 inches high. There is a tablet standing on top of this
base, being about 28 inches tall by 2 feet wide and 8 inches thick. The
tablet is inscribed as follows:
HENRY SINGLETON
1798-1869
AND
UNITY FOREMAN
HIS WIFE
AND THEIR CHILDREN
JOHN W. SINGLETON (W= Wesley)
MARTHA A. SINGLETON (A = Anne)
JOSEPH SINGLETON
No other markers or indication of graves are seen either inside the
fence nor outside it.

Saint Peter Rock Church Cemetery (African-American) By
Larry Childs
This cemetery coming from Macon Ga. is located in Monroe County near the
intersection of State Highway 87 and State
route 18 going towards Jackson Ga. Once you reach the intersection of the two
state routes continue towards
Jackson Ga. about one mile the cemetery is on the right side of the road.
There was once a old white Church building that once stood there on top of the
hill with the cemetery mainly going down
the hill away from the Church Building and small section on to the left of the
area where the church once stood.
The cemetery was cleared a few years ago but is now overgrown in places about
four feet high. It is still in use
toady with scattered spots being kept cleaned. There is an un known number of
unmarked burials throughout the cemetery.
This is a complete survey of the marked Burials.

Judge Clower dead.
Judge Floyd (sic) Clower died very suddenly at his home in Cabaniss last
Sunday morning. He was as well as usual Saturday night, and ate a hearty
supper before retiring. His death was caused by heart disease, from which he
had been troubled for several years. He was in his 77th year of age, and had
been very feeble for some time. The funeral services on Monday were conducted
by Rev. Jesse Mays, assisted by Rev. G. W. Hansford and Mr. C. O. Goodwynne.
Mr. Clower was at one time a very prominent citizen of the county, being judge
of the inferior court and a member of the state house of representatives. Of
late years he has been living quietly in retirement. He was a true friend.

Childs
Rogers Methodist Church African American Cemetery.
This Church is located in Monroe County Ga. adjoining the Roger Methodist Church
Cemetery located near Rogers Church
Road on State Highway 74, about half way between the Monroe County Line and
Yatesville Ga.
The cemetery starts at the road and continues into the woods for at least two
hundred feet. They are at least 100 to 150
unmarked graves with only about eight that contain headstones with dates. There
is a single headstone about 150

Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery is located in Monroe County near the Bibb County line on Highway 41. It is a well
kept cemetery and looks as if the cemetery has had some renovations to some of the Burial sites. This is almost a
complete survey .There about 12 Headstones that are not readable by eye, most are in the Jarrett Family Plot. There
are a few unmarked burials also. We welcome any additions or corrections. Please contact the site Coordinator or Larry

McCough African American Cemetery - By Larry Childs
This cemetery located on Maynard Mill Road. From Forsyth
take State Highway 42 to Maynard Mill Road. Once you get
to the intersection State Highway 42 and Maynard Mill
Road turn right go about 200 yards and watch the left
side of the road. The cemetery is in still in use today
but not kept up. It is over grown and tangled with
vegetation. It appears this may have been a separate
family cemetery on a different piece of land and others
started using the adjoining lot for a cemetery also.
I was not able to find any record for a name for this
cemetery. There area bout ten unmarked Burials in the
older section in which the below names are located.
There about thirty others in the newer part with most
burials from 1959 - 1997 Any information on this cemetery
will be appreciated.

This cemetery is located In Monroe county off Highway 87 and can be seen on
the right of the road coming from Macon. One
you pass State Rout 18 it will be about five miles past that intersection.
Please note: This survey was difficult there are many Headstones that are in
extreme need of cleaning. Some are
deteriorated and barely readable and some I simply had to guess at some of the
letters. This cemetery survey may have
some errors. You will find some with nothing but their name and one or two with
just a first name or last name. I had
thought about just leaving those in question out but being there were about
twenty I decided I would put down what I
could as to assist others in finding their descendants.
There are a few unmarked burials there.
To the left of the church are cemeteries that were relocated from where lake
Juliette was built . There are no names
some have a few metal markers with numbers. I know of no way of telling how many
relocated burials are there
If you have any additions or corrections please contact the site
coordinator or Larry Childs at Jcdist1comm@wmconnect.com
