Six miles from Eatonton, Putnam County, Rock Eagle Mound, photo ca 1940. Estimated to have been constructed 1,000 to 3,000 years ago by the Woodland Indians.  Built of quartzite, 102' long and 120' wide.  Only two such effigy bird mounds exist and they are both in Putnam County, GA.

13 miles from Rock Eagle Mound is Rock Hawk Effigy Mound. Built about 1,000 to 3,000 years ago by the Woodland Indians.
