Staff Sergeant John B Spears, son of Mrs Esther B Spears of 216 Fifth Street, has been cited by the 338th Infantry Regiment
of the 85th (Custer) Division and awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge.

Spears earned this award by actual combat against the enemy with Lieutenant General Lucian K Turscott, Jr, Fifth Army in Italy.

John B Spears Receives Award

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla, Aug 30-At a formal parade Saturday at Welch Convalescent hospital, Staff Sergeant John B. Spears, 902 Carolina avenue, North Augusta, SC, was a warded the Distinguished Unit Citation Badge by Colonel Harry A Bishop, commanding officer of the installation.

Spears, who is a supply sergeant at Welch, has served for nine months overseas in Italy. He entered the Army in August, 1941, at Fort McPherson, GA.
