Anything linking my great-great grandmother, Tibitha Jane (Downs) who married Robert J. Self probably before 1850, would
be appreciated. I found a tip suggesting she may have been a daughter of an Isaac Downs and Elizabeth Wilcox who first
married a Thomas Bennett in 1823 in Richmond Co., GA. Tibitha Jane and R. J. Self and the kids they had by then were in
Winston Co., Miss. by 1854 and in 1880 they were recorded on West Road, Holmes Co., Miss. I descend from R. J.'s and T.
J.'s daughter, Cynthia Catherine Self JAMES. There was a James Wilcox in 1850s Winston Co., Miss., who probably was kin to
Tibitha Jane's mother.

My great grandfather was Walter Brice STEVENSON.  He was born 10 Nov 1859 in Fairfield County, SC.  The parents of Walter
are the folks I am looking for.  They are Robert STEVENSON and Nancy CABEEN STEVENSON.  In the 1860 census, they are
living in Fairfield County, SC, but not in the 1870 census.  I have a church record from 1874, stating that Margaret
Cabeen STEVENSON, daughter of Robert and Nancy C. STEVENSON of Edgefield County, has died at 4 months old. I cannot find
them in the 1870 census in Edgefield County.

The family "legend" goes that the family lost their home to taxes after the Civil War, and "fled".  I do not know where
they went or where they died.  I pick up their son, Walter, in 1885 in Glasscock County, TX.

I am checking in counties bordering Edgefield County, SC with the hope of finding someone who knows about this family.

Both my maternal and paternal grandparents lived and/or worked in Richmond Co.  My maternal grandfather Anthony Barton had
three children, Mary Lizzie, Walton T. and Lula by his first wife Alice Rowland.  Barton worked for a railroad as a
brakeman, I think, and was killed in a work related accident .  Probably in or after 1909.  All of the children were
adopted.  I was told this info when I was very young, but cannot find any thing concrete on it.  I live in Charleston, SC
and do not have access to the usual research facilities.

My paternal grandfather was Louis A. Van Dyke, who I found in the 1930 census in Hephzibah, Ga.  I cannot find any of his
antecedents or his wife Ida's surname.  He died in 1932.  He had six childred, 3 boys: Chester, Horace and Clarence...3
girls: Mable, Alice and Ethel.  None of the children are living.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
