Donelson Huff Documents September Term 1854

The Court of Ordinary of Talbot county met on Monday the 4th day of September AD 1854, it being the first Monday in said month. Present Marion Bethune, Ordinary of said court, George W. Gamage, Deputy Sherriff of said court.

Donelson Huff, decd, whereas Charles Wilson of Upson County Georgia has made appalication to Marion Bethune, Ordinary of Talbot County for letters of administration on the estate of Donaldson Huff, late of said County of Talbot, and whereas said Ordinary has issued and published before the court house door and in the Columbus Enquirer, a public gazette of this state for the space of thirty days immediately before the pressent term of this court his citation giving notice of said application and citing and admonishing all and singular the kindred and creditors of said deceased to be and appear at his office within the time prescribed by law then and there to show cause if any they had why said letters should not be granted, and no one having shown cause against the granting of said letters on motion is is ordered that said Charles Wilson be appointed administrator, on said estate on his giving bond in the sum of fifty thousand dollars. With Comfort A. Huff, Louisa J. Huff, Nancy H. Huff, Mathew H. Sandwich, George J. Lewis and Daniel Wilson as his security s, provided that said Sandwich, Lewis and Daniel Wilson shall by any means before the issuing of said letters, sattisfy the Ordinary of Talbot County that there are ample security for the sum of thirty eight thousand dollars and that said Charles Wilson, Comfort A. Huff, Louisa J. Huff & Nancey Huff, being now in court so sign said bond now in open court, and that the other securities do sign by themselves or then legally authorized agent, in vacation before said Ordinary.

Donelson Huff, Decd. It appearing to the court that at the last time of this court Charles Wilson was appointed administrator of the estate of DonelsonHuff upon his giving bond for the sum of fifty thousand dollars, also Comfort Huff, Louisa Huff, Nancy H. Huff, Mathew H. Sandwich, George G. Lewis and Daniel Wilson as his securitys, provided the said Sandwich, Lewis and Daniel Wilson shall satisfy the Ordinary of Talbot county by an means that they were ample security for thirty eight thousand dollars, allowing said three last named securitys to sign said bond by themselves or their legally authorized agent before the said ordinary in vacation, and thereas they have failed to satisfy the said ordinary that they are ample security for $38,000 and the said Charles Wilson proposes now to strenghten said bond and make it acceptable to said ordinary by giving as securities thereon in addition to those above named, Joseph Allen and James Allen of Talbot county.

Be it ordered that he be allowed to do so & that Joseph Allen and James Allen be allowed to sign said bond before the ordinary in vacation, upon the before named securities, consenting thereto.

Donelson Huff Decd. It appearing to the court that James Huff has applied to the Ordinary of Talbot County for letter of administration on the estate of Donelson Huff, late of Talbot County deceased, that said Ordinary has issued and published his citation citing and admonishing all and singular the kindred and creditors of said deceased to be and appear at his office within the time prescribed by law then and there to show cause if any they have why said letters should not be granted, whcih said citation has been puslished for thirty days in the Columbus Enquirer a public gazette of this state, and no one having objected to said application, it is ordered therefore that said James Huff be appointed administrator of said Donelson Huff, on his giving bond in the sum of forty thousand dollars with Isaac Cheney, Grief Furgerson and John A. Cameron as security and taking the oath prescribed by law and that he be allowed to make said bond and take said oath in vacation.

Office Ordinary 16th January 1853 in Vacation.

Ordered that John A. Cammeron, Isaace Cheney, Greif H. Furgerson, Thomas Powell and Giddeon Wilson free holders of said county of Talbot be appointed to appraise the estate of Donelson Huff, late of said county, decd, on their taking the oath required by law, and that the return the same certified under hands with a certificate of their having been qualified in terms of law. Marion Bethune, ordinary.

Donelson Huff's orphans: It appearing to the court that Joseph D. Brooks has made application to the ordinary of said county (Talbot) for letters of guardinaship of the persons and property of Eugene Huff, Robert Huff, Hilliard Huff and Hamilton Huff, orphan children of Donelson Huff, late of said county, decd, that said ordinary has issued and published for thirty days at the court house door in said county and in the Columbus Enquirer a public gazette of this state his citation

*** that said application has been made to him and citing and admonishing all and singular the kindred & others feeling an interest in the guardianship of the persons and property of said orphans to be and appear at his office within the time prescribed by law, then and there to show cause if any they have why said letters should not be granted, which publication has been made for thirty days immediately before the present term of this court & no one having objected. It is ordered that said Joseph D. Brooks be appointed guardian as aforesaid of said orphans.

William Huff and Donelson Huff orphans:

William Huff and Donaleson Huff orphans of Donelson Huff decd having come before Marion Bethune ordinary of said county and chosen Isaac Cheney guardian of their person and property and now being made appear that they are over fourteen years of age that they reside in Talbot County. It is ordered that said choice be confirmed by thei court (said Cheney consenting thereto) and he be appointed guardian as aforesaid on his giving bond with John B. McCay as his security in the sum of six thousand dollars and taking the oath required by law said bond being now made & said oath taken, letters were issued.
