Confederate States: To Dalton Baptist Church
To Injuries done the Towne while used for hospital $85.25.
State of Georgia, Whitfield County. Personally appeared before me an acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County, Charles M. Barry and Lumisky Ford who being duly sworn, deposed and say that they have carefully examined the Dalton Baptist Church and do asses the damage sustained by said building while used by the Confederate States for hospital at eighty five dollars and twenty five cents (85.25). Sworn and subscribed before me this 13 day of June 1863. C. M. Barry, L Ford, W J Walls, JP.
Received Dalton GA this 13 day of June 1863 of Maj W R Ayer WM Confederate States the sum of eighty five dollars and twenty five cents (85.25) in full for damages to Baptist Church, as above assessed. Merritt Burns.
Personally appeared before me as acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County, Merritt Burns, trustee for the Dalton Baptist Church, who being duly sworn deposeth and sayeth, that he believes that the said church was injured as above and forth while being used by the Confederate States as a hospital, that the assessment of damages above allowed is not excessive and that he has received no compensation therefore other than as specified in above receipt.
