Rev. David
J. Apperson, was born Jan. 11, 1810, in Clark County, Ga. His parents, James and
Elizabeth, were from Mecklenburgh County, Va. Both
grandfathers were soldiers in the Revolutionary army. Bro. A. united with the
Baptist church in 1827, and was a participant in the early efforts
to promote liberal views in Georgia. In 1841 he received license to
preach, and three years later, was ordained. He ministered to the Corinth and
New
Prospect churches thirty years, and served the Friendship, Shiloh, Bluff Spring,
Bethany, Galilee and Silver Run churches for briefer periods. He also
traveled as a home missionary. In 1850 he was elected moderator of the
Chattahoochee Association, and was continued in that position until 1881,
a sufficient evidence of the esteem of the brethren. He has baptized 1007 converts. Now he is in feeble health, passing an honored old age with his
family at Poindexter, Ga. (1889)
He first appears in Marion County with 4 males under 5; 1 male 30-40; 1 female under 5, 1 female 5-10 and 1 female 20-30.

THE ATLANTA CONSTITUTION November 10, 1877 (Also in the Columbus Paper) ROUNDABOUT IN GEORGIA Buena Vista Argus: Rev. D.J. Apperson, who lives nine miles north of Ellaville, in Schley county, had a nursery in 1868 which was too thick, and decided to thin out the bearing trees, which he did, cutting them down above the ground sometime in October. Several days thereafter he needed some "forks," with which to make a shelter for his potatoes. One of the forks he made of one of the peach trees which he had cut down. The end was sharpened and the prongs cut off, and the body driven in the ground with an axe. Strange to say that fork is now a large bearing tree, with strong roots, from which Mr. A. has gathered bushels of fine October peaches each year for several past. Additional Comments: Rev. David J. Apperson was the first pastor of Pleasant Hill Freewill Baptist Church near the Taylor county line. It was established 1879.
