Company I, 2nd Regiment, Georgia Infantry
"Buena Vista Guards"

Only known surviving Flag of 2nd Georgia Infantry CSA

This flag is not backwards, it is 3'x4'.

The eight Georgia ladies who made the flag were Sallie Jones, Sallie Blount, Vic Warner, Julia Blount, Lattie Carter, Annie Mandell, Florence Lyne and Sarah Whitehead. When

the ladies presented the flag to the regiment, in May 1861, Captain William R. Holmes remarked, “This flag shall be our rallying point around which every sharpshooter will claim

no greater honor than to protect and defend.” This 1st National flag was carried into some of the major battles of the War Between the States: Manassas, Antietam, Gettysburg,

Petersburg, Fredericksburg, Chickamauga and finally Appomattox.. After the war, the flag was returned to Burke County, Ga.

The flag went up for auction in 2008, and I do not know of its current location.
