Special Pardon 1865

Application for Pardon.

To his Excellency the President of the United States of America.  The petition and resident of said County and State, respectfully shows that he is excluded from the provisions of Amnesty Proclamation of the President of the United States of the 29th of May 1865.  By reason of the fact that he was elected and qualified as a member of Congress held by the pretended government of the Confederate States on 18 Feb 1864, from the 3rd Congressional District of Georgia.

Your Petitioner further showeth no proceedings have been commenced against him to confiscate his property and that no warrants, indictment or other proceedings have been instituted against him for or on account of any treason or other crime or offence against the United States or any one of the States of the United States.  Your Petitioner further shows that he has complied with the Proclamation of the President of the United States and of the Military Orders of the General commanding in relation to the freedom of the slaves formerly owned by our petitioner.

Your petitioner further represents that all property owned by him of every description does not exceed in value the --- of two thousand dollars, no did not exceed said valuation before the commencement of the late war.

Your Petitioner further shows --- slavery having been abolished there is no --- established between the US .........
