The writing on the back of the picture was written by Gertrude Ester Rentz Jordan.  Robert Nicholas Sheffield was "Gertie's" first cousin.

 

This picture was found among the belongings of Gertrude Ester Rentz Jordan after she passed away.  She was called "Gertie" by her family and friends.  Gertie was the daughter of William James Rentz b.Nov. 23, 1844  d. May 10, 1910 and Elizabeth Sarah Jane Sheffield Rentz (daughter of Isham R. & Martha R. Lane Sheffield) b.Jan 24, 1846  d. Dec 27, 1922.  William was called "Tiner" by his family and friends.  Elizabeth was called "Jane" by her family and friends. 

 

Elizabeth Sarah Jane Sheffield Rentz was Augustus "Guss" L. Sheffield's sister.  Robert Nicholas Sheffield was Elizabeth's nephew.

 

William James Rentz and Elizabeth Sarah Jane Sheffield Rentz are buried in the Rentz Family Cemetery in Baker County, Ga.  

 

Robert Nicholas Sheffield was the son of Augustus L. Sheffield b. Aug. 16, 1841 and Nancy Bush Sheffield b.1846.  Robert was the grandson of Isham R. Sheffield b. March 5, 1815 d. Aug. 30, 1884 and Martha Rice Lane Sheffield b. Feb 22, 1819  d. March 4, 1901.

 

Isham R. Sheffield was Miller County's first Representative in 1857.  He is buried at the Shepard Cemetery in Miller County, Ga.  Martha Rice Lane is buried at the Roberts Cemetery in Miller County, Ga.
