TAYLOR COUNTY FAMILY ASSOCIATIONS

The Byrd Family Association of Taylor County, Georgia

Several families still residing in Taylor and the surrounding counties have ties to this BYRD family. We are in the process of establishing a Byrd Family Association and would like to find as many descendants as possible.

Some of the goals of the association will be to rejuvenate the Byrd/Glover cemetery, maintain the markers in the other cemeteries where our ancestors rest and also to share with other family members our history. We would eventually like to publish a Byrd family history.

In 1850 Joel and Nancy Turnage Bird/Byrd were living in the portion of Crawford County which later became part of Taylor, known as the Panhandle District. According to their children's birth dates, it is thought they arrived in this area about 1834.

Joel and Nancy had 11 known children, of which six were born in Georgia. It is not known for certain where they came from, but according to various census schedules, they were from North Carolina.

Their known children:
Robert married Mary Ann BOWERS
Frances married Abraham POSEY
Alfred spouse unknown
Warren married Mary L. DICKSON
Selina married Abraham WAINWRIGHT
William married Etnie GOODWIN
Tillman married Elizabeth WINDHAM
Malinda married B. F. FRAZIER
Sabrina married William JONES
Elizabeth married Wm HOLLEY
Mary married Lewis MOORE
