At the battle of Franklin, TN, one of his brothers was wounded. He stayed to help, and they were captured and sent to Union prison camp. They returned to AL, and in 1870 he moved to TX. He settled in Center, TX, married a Smith and had seven children. He lived to be 83. I found some records in the census of GA, in 1855. GARNER - JOHNSTON - POPE
If you ever see a record of three Johnston brothers who lived in Bibb Co., Macon, mostly, and Twiggs with these names, please contact me: John, Alexander and Young. Young was b. in Burke Co. before 1800 died in Macon abt. 1845. In the newspaper, in W. Rocker's book. Alexander and Young were minors when their father, James Johnston, Jr., Esq., of Twiggs Co. died in Nov. 1816. I need to know their mother's maiden name, their wives and families, etc. Their mother was married to a Garner bef. she married James J. in about 1785-1790. Her son was Richard Garner b. bef. 1785-90 and who lived in Morgan Co. at one time. I think he married Martha Pope, probably. Would love to know where Young is buried. He's not listed at Rose Hill.

GILCHRIST - SMITH
I am currently searching for the parentage of Turner Smith. He was born in Bibb County around 1842. I suspect either the Turner Smith that was murdered in Bibb County on 8 December 1849 or the Thomas H. Smith who was indicted for the murder of his brother may have been his father. In the 1860 census, the "20" year old Turner Smith appears in Barbour County, AL. His father was apparently dead or in prison, because he was living with a Mary Smith, age 18 and a Lucy Gilchrist, age 44. My grandfather's bible lists a sister for Turner Smith by the name of Mary. The transcript of the trial concerning the murder of Turner Smith (The State vs Brinkley Bishop & Thomas H. Smith - Murder - True Bill) indicates that the trial was held in January Term, 1850. I have a copy of that trial. In the text I was able to determine that both parents of Turner and Thomas had already been buried. "boys, I knew your parents. They were good old people and I saw them buried." The murder took place in Bibb County on Justice Court day on the second Saturday in December. I do not know what the case was about. Do you have access to these records? Also, there is a James Smith born 1777 in North Carolina who died in Bibb County, Georgia in 1845. His will is in Bibb County. Can you find it? I somehow feel that he is a part of my mystery. He was married to Sarah E. Herring if that will help any. I don't know if you will be able to help me make a connection. This missing link has had me baffled for ten years. I just recently learned that Turner was born in Bibb County, Ga. @ 1842. Thank you in advance for all your time and trouble.

The land which he owned was obtained partially from a James Griffith and was part of the Old Agency Reserve.

GATES - HARRIS - JOHNSTON - KING - LANIER - SOLOMON - STRICKLAND
Does anyone know the name of the wife of Young Johnston b. c. 1795-97 in Burke Co., GA, moved with his father's family to Twiggs Co., but lived in Macon as an adult. He was in Wilcox Co., Alabama in 1820 Census, but back in Macon in 1830. Died about 1845 in Macon. Obit. doesn't mention family, but he had one in 1820 in Alabama. His exor/admr. was Henry King who was removed, a Gates who didn't serve out the time, and estate fnally taken over by a relative, Strickland, I believe.

Young was a Capt. and tried unsuccessfully to raise a company in Macon to fight the Seminoles, I think. He was "family", tho' not kin, to Buckner Harris...his stepmother was Amey Lanier whose sister was in the Harris family. His sister was also married to a Harris.

Does anyone know of this family? They were somehow connected with Peter Solomom of Macon.

HENDERSON - HUNTER - RENFRO
My great grandparents were said to be born in Macon, Bibb co. Ga. William Overton Henderson Sr. b. circa 1820, d. after 1860 of measles, buried somewhere in Bibb Co. I don't know the spouse's name but she moved to Tenn. after the Civil War with 2 dead children who succumed to measles and had them buried in Davidson Co. Tenn. They had children by these names: William Overton Henderson 2nd. b. 12 Sept. 1857 in Bibb Co., he was about 7 or 8 when he was moved to TN where he married a Martha Ann Hunter; Samuel Henderson b. 1840-1845 in Bibb Co., married to a Mattie Renfro, had daughter Lula Bell; Elizabeth who had 2 children born in GA., she also died of measles; Noel; Charlie who had a son, daughter(Lissie or Lessie?). The story goes that soldiers battled on Wm. Overton Henderson's farm and were told to leave. So that is the reason for the migration to TN about the end of the Civil War. I have Wm. Sr. in 1860 in Macon, Bibb Co. GA. census but hard to read and would like to locate a death record of some sort to find out who his parents were and where they came from. KELLOGG - MESSEC/MESSIC/MESSICK.MESSIX
I am seeking information about the parents and siblings of Captain Isaac G. Messec (1822-1901) from Macon, Bibb County, GA. Captain Messec's family had migrated to Shelby County, TX by 1839. He served in a Texas regiment in the Mexican War, travelled to Northern California by 1849, and settled in Trinity/Humboldt Counties for many years. In later life, he moved to San Francisco with his wife, Lucinda J. Kellogg, from PA. Based on current knowledge, Captain Messec is believed to be the brother of my great-great-grandfather, William Messec, who died in San Augustine, TX in about 1860. The spellings Messick, Messic, and Messix have also been used.

LLG
LANDAUER - LEOPOLD - PICARD
These families lived in Bibb County, Georgia from about 1850 to 1870. My great-great-grandparents lived in Macon although they were actually married in Savannah in 1863. Their names were Isaac Landauer and Rosalie Leopold. Her mother's maiden name was Picard. I think her parents lived in Georgia, but I don't know if they lived in Bibb Co. Isaac and Rosalie had (at least) 5 brothers and cousins who served in 3 different regiments from Macon during the War for Southern Independence. I know some of their military service, but little else about them. Three are mentioned in the 1860 city directory, but none are mentioned in any censuses. Their names were Jacob, Simon, Morris, & Moses Landauer, and S. Leopold.

Paul Tucker
LUMSDEN - PETERSON - THOMPSON - TUCKER
I am attempting to identify/locate the parents of Daniel Peterson Tucker, b. October 22, 1810 in Abbeville, SC. His father was supposedly William J. Tucker or maybe just William Tucker. One source says that William J. was born in 1767 in Charleston, SC, and died in Macon, GA in 1851. The other says that he was born in Amelia County, VA, and died in Jasper County, GA in 1851. William had perhaps another child, either D. J. or T. J., perhaps Thomas Jefferson Tucker. I speculate he may have had a daughter Julia Z.
Daniel Peterson, son of William, married Wilmoth Lumsden Thompson in Macon, GA in 1826. It is also known that Daniel's wife's grandfather Jeremiah Lumsden was an itinerant Methodist minister who was on the Oconee Circuit in 1805 with one Epps Tucker. It is quite possible that there was a connection here which, if known might solve some of my mysteries. I could really use some help here, from anyone knowing about William Tucker or Epp Tucker.

Jacob L. Bateman III
MCLEOD - SAUNDERS - SOLOMON - STURDIVANT
The Solomons first appeared in Georgia in 1801, and in Wilkinson Co in 1805 and Twiggs Co in 1809. The main ancestor, Lazarus, had a brother by the name of James that lived in Montgomery Co in 1799 and he moved to Laurens Co 1810. Lazarus was deeded land in Montgomery Co by James in 1801, so there is a possibility that my ancestor John Solomon may have lived in Bibb Co long enough to raise a family, and marry some of his children off. I am looking for information on Elizabeth Solomon and Alexander McLeod who were married in Georgia but I am not sure when. Frances Solomon married Daniel McLeod, the brother of Alexander. I am also looking for information on the marriage of Mary Solomon and Bill Saunders as well. Since I do not know very little about these families I need all the help I can get. John Solomon and Rebecca Sturdivant were married in Twiggs Co in 1820 yet died in Alabama (John May 13, 1879 and Rebecca in 1882). Both are buried in Clopton AL. The two daughters may and may not have been married in Alabama. My guess is that they probably were married in Georgia. Please look up Land Records, Tax Digests, Tax Rolls, Deed Books, Confederate Muster Rolls and any Property records. If there is anyone with information on this family please email me or snail mail me at Jacob L. Bateman III - 3870 Strathmore Drive Montgomery, AL 36116-4614.

SIMMONS - SUTPHIN
My ancestor John Wesley Sutphin (b. 11/9/1836), 63rd VA Inf, was stationed near Macon in 1864-1865. He was hospitalized at Ocmulgee Hospital in June 1864 and later appears on a Federal prisoner list as having been captured there. He stayed in Georgia after the war and married (a local girl?) by the name of Mary Ann Simmons (b. 1/28/1842). They were living in Houston Co. (Perry P.O.) in 1870, where he was listed as John SUTTHIN [sic]. Before 1880 they left Georgia and went to back to Carroll Co., VA, his birthplace. Mary Ann's death certificate (1915) states that her father was Alex Simmons, and she is listed in censuses as being born in Georgia. I think that Mary Ann may have been from one of the Simmons families that were living in Bibb or Crawford Co.'s during this time period. I would like to make contact with anyone researching the SIMMONS family from these areas.

Searching for father of William Scott who was a Capt. in Revolutionary War. He was born 1754 in Va or SC?, married Jane Thomas in SC in 1794 and had 11 children. We were there and found Scott graves but not our line. DAR placed marker on his grave in 195?. Got directions from DAR for grave, but they led nowhere.
