J. T. Atkinson Taken by Death
The death of James Thomas Atkinson, 70 years of age, occurred Friday night at the home of his sister, Mrs. Susie Davis, at Locust Grove. He was visiting In the home of his sister at the time of death. Mr. Atkinson had been in declining health for several years, and recently had made his home with T. W. Moore at Jenkinsburg.
Born April 18, 1871, he was a son of Lewis M. Atkinson and Mrs. Lucy Kimbell Atkinson, connected with pioneer families of the county. He was formerly engaged in farming and truck growing and later held positions with mercantile firms in this section. Mr. Atkinson was a member of County Line Baptist church. He was widely known throughout the county and had a large circle of friends.
Funeral services were conducted at County Line church Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The Rev. Gaither A. Briggs officiated and burial was in the family lot in the churchyard.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Susie Davis of Locust Grove; a brother, L. A. Atkinson of Jackson; a brother-in-law, W. L. Smith of Locust Grove. His wife, the former Miss Lola Childs, died several years ago.
