Mrs. Avery Of Worthville Died June 24
Mrs. Geraldine Washington Avery, 61, of Route 1, Jackson, Worthville Community, died at 8:55 Wednesday evening, June 23rd, at Georgia Baptist Hospital, Atlanta, following open heart surgery.
Born in Butts County June 3, 1915, she was daughter of the late Lennie Lee Washington and Tassie Kitchens Washington, both of Butts County.
She and her husband had made their home in Greenville, Tenn. for many years before moving back to Butts County several years ago.
She was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Greenville, Tenn. but had been faithful in attendance in the Worthville Baptist Church and held membership in the Worthville Chapter No. 516 of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a faithful and dedicated correspondent for the Jackson Progress-Argus for several years.
Survivors include her husband, W. G. Avery of Jackson; one daughter, Mrs. Glenda A. Bell of Atlanta; a son, Michael W. Avery, Coral Springs, Fla.; three grandchildren, Don McDonald of Atlanta; Will and Wendy Avery of Coral Springs, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Eloise Guess, Fairburn; two brothers, S. A. Washington, Jackson; Julian Washington of Morrow; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 25th, at three o'clock in the Worthville Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarage Tucker officiating. Interment was in the Covington City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Stanley McCart, Clyde Parker, Rebon Maddox, Virgil Smith, Earl Hurst, Lindsey Maddox.
