The copyright date of this bible is 1869, and it was therefore published
when Hiram Seay was about thirteen years old. All of the recorded family
information which predates this (except for one entry) were added in the
same hand, apparently with the same ink and pen.
These two observations suggest that this Bible was prepared with
transcription from an earlier family Bible, for the young Hiram as a gift
at the time of his baptism.
The exception mentioned above is that of the death of his father's
first wife Nancy, who died in 1855. This seems to have been recorded (probably
in the hand of Hiram, himself) with the same ink and pen as the entries for
his father and older brother James, who both passed away in the first months
of 1875.
