        June 29th 1798.  r/Sept. 7th 1799.  ABRAHAM JOHNSON of Warren County, to WILLIAM HEMINGWAY and ISAAC STUBBS, doth give a certain tract of land with the streams, etc., for the purpose of carding and spinning cotton.  Johnson reserves the right to use water from the springing-well on the property. (Part of tract granted to JOSEPH BROWN, March 2nd 1773)

        Nov. 2nd 1792.  r/Sept. 7th 1799.  MATTHEW MOATES and Mary, his wife, to JOHN EMBREE for 100 pounds, tract of 100 acres on Germany Creek, bounded by land granted to Jonothan Sell (now Carters land).  Said tract granted to MATTHEW MOATES Mar. 1, 1785)

        June 20th 1780.  r/Sept. 9th 1799.  JOHN CASSELL (CASTLE) of Richmond County, to JAMES HAVILLE, for 30 pounds, 100 acres on Germany Creek, granted to JACOB CASSELL, Feb. 7th 1775, conveyed to his son James by deed, Nov. 15, 1782.

        Aug 22nd 1793.  r/Sept. 9th 1799.  JOHN MOORE, JO.  MCCORMICH and Mary, his wife, to ANNE LOWE for 50 pounds, 150 acres on Germany Creek, adj. JACOB WATSON and JOHN PERKINS, granted to ANN STUBBS (now LOWE) in 1772.

        June 6th 1799.  r/Sept. 9th 1799.  SAMUEL WILSON of Hancock County to MATTHEW BURNSIDE of Columbia County, for $535.00, a 200 acres plantation on Germany Creek, known as Wilson's Old place, granted to Samuel, July 3, 1770.  Fifty acres bounded by above tract.   South by MENDENHALL, NE by JOHN DAVIS.

       Feb. 4th 1795. r/Sept. 10th 1799.  BENJAMIN ANDREWS and Elinor, his wife, to WILLIAM JONES, for 12 pounds, 10 shillings, 50 acres on Germany Creek, original granted to ISAAC COOPER.

        May 12th 1799.  r/Sept. 10th 1799. ZENUS PARKER of Lincoln County, to WILLIAM DRANE for $50.00, a 100 acres tract on Great Kiokee Creek, adj. said Drane, PARKER, JEAN BRYANT.  Granted to Parker, Jan 20, 1797.

        June 12th 1799.  r/Sept 11, 1799.  JOHN REEVES to WILLIAM DRANE for $50, a 30 acres tract on waters of Great Kiokee, adj. Drane's land.  Granted to PHILLIP UPTON, Jan 4, 1788.

        Aug. 13th 1797.  r/Sept 11, 1799.  JAMES HABERSHAM, Jr., of Chatham County, for $250, sells to WILLIAM SMITH, 200 acres in Wrightsborough Township, formerly the St. Paul's Parish, granted to JOSEPH MADDOCK's home tract, bounded by Maddock's Mill Tract, N.E. by JOHN EMBREE.

        Sept. 9th 1798.  r/Sept 30, 1799.  WILLIAM MCDANIEL, to JACOB BRISON, for $23.37 1/2.  Sells four acres on Greenbriar Creek on both sides of the Great Road.  Granted to McDaniel, no date given.

        June 18th 1799.  r/Sept 30, 1799.  Same to same as above. for $24, 21 3/4 acres on Greenbriar Creek, adj. land granted to ABRAHAM FRANKLIN by Gov. Irwin.  Mary sign relinquishment of dower, both she and William give their names as "MCDONALD".

      March 9th 1777. r/Nov. 13th 1799. ELIZABETH CRITTENDON of Augusta, Parish of St. Paul, to JOHN MCCORMICK for 60 lbs, a 500 acres tract on the Savannah River, granted to said Elizabeth, July 3rd 1772.  McCormick had leased the land for the previous year for "one peppercorn".  (peppercorn is a pepper seed)

        Mar. 15th 1799.  r/Mar. 15th 1799.  Bill of Sale, Anderson Crawford, Sheriff, seize property of JOSIAS SHAW, to satisfy a suit brought by THOMAS CUMMING and Company of Augusta.  Property sold at auction to GEORGE CONN, high bidder at $159.37 1/2.  Mr. Conn bought three feather beds, three checked cotton counterpanes, two pine tables, eight old chairs, one bald eagle bare, one bay filly, one 90 gallon still.

        May 17th 1797.  r/Mar. 16th 1799. NATHANIEL COATES of Wilkes County, to SAMUEL CRABB for 100 pounds, sells 100 acres on Cane Creek.  Granted to said Coates, Adj. HENRY HUNT and JOHN SHIELDS.

        March 19th 1797.  r/Mar. 16th 1799.  BENJAMIN FEW to SAMUEL CRABB for 50 pounds. sells 100 acres on Cane Creek, adj. land granted to NATHANIEL COATES, being part of a 750 acre tract granted to WILLIAM SMITH, conveyed by Smith to Few.

        Dec. 29th 1798.  r/Mar. 18, 1799.  WILLIAM JOHNSON and wife Mary, formerly widow of THEOPOLIUS DAVIS; WILLIAM BALLARD and wife Susannah, formerly Davis, daughter of said Mary, of Washington County, sell to JOHN FOSTER, for $20, a tract of 50 acres, adj. Foster's land, originally granted to THEOPOLIUS DAVIS, whereon said Davis lived.  Bounded by land granted to BARSHEBA PARKER.

        Oct. 26th 1797.  r/Mar. 19th 1799.  ABRAHAM PERKINS to JAMES EDWARDS, a 200 acres tract bounded by JACOB GREATHOUSE, all other ides vacant at time of survey.  Granted to said Perkins, July 3, 1787.

        Mar. 3, 1797.  r/Mar. 19th 1799.  AMOS VERNON to STEPHEN HODGINS, said Vernon being late from N.C., for $500, sells 127 acre adj. ISAAC VERNON, HENRY WILLIAMS and Vernon estate, part of 350 acre tract surveyed for ISAAC VERNON, deceased.

        Feb. 18th 1797. r/Mar 20th 1799.  LOVELESS SAVAGE and wife Elizabeth, sell to JAMES PILKINGTON for $100, a tract of 60 acres on both sides of Germany Creek, bounded by GRINAGE and FOSTER, part of tract granted to ANNE WOOD, Feb. 4, 1785.

        Feb. 6th 1799.  r/Mar 20 1799.  JANE CULBREATH sells her dower (she was widow of PETER CULBREATH), 22 1/2 acres on Uchee Creek, to JOHN CALDWELL for $30.

       Dec. 4th 1798.  r/Mar. 20 1799.  NELSON CRAWFORD of Richmond County, Adm. of estate of WILLIAM CRAWFORD, sells to JOHN GARNETT, a one ninth part of a tract on Uchee River, part of estate of late JOHN CRAWFORD, being said William's share of the estate of his late father.

        Oct. 1778. r/Mar. 21, 1799.  (Copy of Will of John BOYD, entered in Deed Book)  Dearly beloved wife, Elizabeth, all household goods, cattle and plantation (on which he now lives) land to go to son Nicodemus after death of his mother.  Other property to daughters, Fanny and Nancy.  David, one shilling; daughter Sarah Hobbs (HUBBS?), one shilling; daughter Mary RICKETSON (married Marmaduke RICKETSON), 100 acres, adj. JAMES GRIERSON and land I live on.  Three sons, John, Edward and Nicodemus, the tract of 400 acres whereon I now live.  Edward's share to be the lower part, adj. Germany's land, John to have the upper portion, including Germany's Mill Path. JOHN FOSTER swore that he had often heard Elizabeth BOYD, Widow of JOHN BOYD, deceased, say that her said husband had made a will before his death, and that she carried said will to Col. CANDLER's house to get it proven and recorded and that the will was burned in a fire at Candler's house, Feb. 24 1794........Daniel MCNAIR swore that he had seen the will written and signed and believes the above to be true intent and meaning.  Feb. 5, 1794.  On Mar. 1, 1794, MARMADUKE RICKETSON petitioned that the above will be accepted under an Act of Assembly passed in 1785.  On Feb. 26th 1795 the Superior Court judges stated that since no one had come forward to contest the will, it be accepted as a true copy and the rule nisi be absolute.

       Nov. 27th 1777.  r/Mar. 21 1799.  Deed of Gift.  PETER YOUNGBLOOD, Sr., of Richmond County, to sons Abraham and George, 200 acres on White Oak Creek.  Abraham on the north and George on the south side of said creek, to include the plantation.  Wit:  MARTIN MELLOWN, sworn by Mellown ---Peter YOUNGBLOOD, now deceased, May 6th 1794.  Signed:  Martin Mellown, GEORGE RAY, JOHN YOUNGBLOOD and LEWIS YOUNGBLOOD.

 

SUPERIOR COURT 1797.  GEORGE YOUNGBLOOD appears and deposes that he and his brother, Abraham (now deceased), possessed above tract but the deed was destroyed by fire.  Ordered that the above deed copy to be established as directed by law.  George to publish a notice in the paper for six months.  If no one contests it, the above deed will be in effect.

        May 8, 1796.  r/Mar. 22, 1799.  Deed of Gift.  JACOB BULL to son Jesse, six Negroes, one wagon, one horse, three mares, chains and gears for the team, one clock with case, one large looking glass.  Witness:  MAULDEN AMOS and WILLIAM AMOS.

        Sept. 12th 1796.  r/Mar. 22, 1799.  BENJAMIN and RHESA HOWARD, to JACOB BULL, Sr., for $800, 100 acres on Upton Creek, originally granted to David FLEMING, Feb. 10, 1774.

        Feb. 21st 1797.  r/Mar. 23rd 1799.  JACOB BULL, SR., to son Jesse, for $300, a tract of 150 acres originally granted to JOSEPH MADDOCK sold by the Marshal in Chatham County, in a bankruptcy sale to JAMES HABERSHAM, by him to JACOB BULL, SR., "at the rocky ford on Maddock Creek".

        Apr. 9 1799.  r/Apr 9, 1799.  Bill of Sale.  RICHARD WHITE and NICHOLAS MERIWEATHER to COLLIN REID, a merchant of Augusta, one negro man, Bill, 19 years of age, for $400.

        Apr 9 1799.  r/Apr 9, 1799.  Bill of Sale.  RICHARD WHITE and NICHOLAS MERIWEATHER to JAMES WALKER a negro girl, Anna, 14 years old.

        Oct. 31 1790.  r/Apr 17th 1799.  THOMAS HOBDAY of Carrituck County, Virginia, to JOSEPH COTTON for 115 pounds, five shillings, a negro man, Lewis.  Witness:  JOSEPH COTTON.

        Apr. 23rd 1799.  r/Apr. 23rd 1799.  Power of Attorney.  THOMAS MOON appoints JOSEPH YARBOROUGH to recover the following property:  All my legacy left me by my father, GEORGE MOON, in Prince Edward County, Virginia.

        April 8th 1799.  r/June 27th 1799.  THOMAS COBBS, JR., of Buckingham County, Virginia, appoints THOMAS COBB., SR., of Columbia County, "as my attorney to recover from MICHAEL GILBERT of Hancock County, all that part of the estate of JACOB MOON, deceased, to which I am entitled as one of the heirs of said MOON."

        April 8 1799.  At a court held in Buckingham County, Virginia, Power of Attorney acknowledged by THOMAS COBBS., Jr, ordered to be recorded.  s/ROLFE ELDRIDGE, Clerk.

        May 12, 1799.  I, JOHN COBBS, presiding magistrate of Court of Buckingham County, Virginia, do swear to the validity of above testimony.  s/JOHN COBBS, Esquire.

        Dec. 17th 1776.  r/June 28th 1799.  JOHN COBBS of the State of South Carolina sell to EDWARD TELFAIR, Esquire for 100 pounds, 300 acres in Richmond County.  Bounded SW, NW and NE and SE by lands of JOHN HOWARD and Benjamin, NE partly by JOHN BENNETT.  NW partly by JOHN UPTON, granted to aid John Cobbs, Nov. 1, 1774.

        Aug. 16th 1777.  r/June 29th 1799.  JOHN HOWARD and BENJAMIN FEW, of Richmond County, to EDWARD TELFAIR, for 100 pounds, all that tract in Wrightsborough Township containing 1000 acres, bounded NW by SHERWOOD BUGG, EDMUND BUGG, JOHN BENNETT, JOHN COBBS and WILLIAM CANDLER, SE by WILLIAM JACKSON, SE by vacant lands.  East by DANIEL MCCARTY.  Richard and John UPTON originally granted to said Howard and Few Oct 4, 1774. 

        Aug. 16th 1777.  r/June 23rd 1799.  RHESA HOARD sells to EDWARD TELFAIR, for 50 pounds, 150 acres bounded by lands vacant at time of survey, granted BENJAMIN UPTON, Sept. 1, 1772, conveyed by him to said Howard, Jan 5, 1774.  (above name is Rhesa HOWARD) not HOARD.

        Jan 19, 1780.  r/July 3, 1799.  WILLIAM CANDLER of St. Paul's Parish, Esquire, sells to EDWARD TELFAIR of the Parish of St. George, Esquire, for 500 pounds, the following tracts:  500 acres in Parish of St. Paul, bounded north by THOMAS LINN and JAMES MORROW.  East by JAMES COAN (COWEN) South by WILLIAM MCFARLAND.  Originally granted to said Candler July 7, 1774.  Also 200 acres in St Paul Parish bounded by Robert GRIER and lands vacant, granted to Candler, Nov. 1 1774.

        Sept. 13th 1798.  r/Nov. 21 1798.  THOMAS HANSON to CHARLES DAMRON for $135, tract of 62 acres on waters of Michael's (or Germany Creek) part of tract surveyed for JOHN GARNETT, sold by him to said Hanson.

        Sept. 12th 1798.  r/Nov. 21, 1798.  ANDERSON CRAWFORD, Esquire to THOMAS GREER, for $1300, on a writ against the estate of PETER STUBBLFIELD, deceased, on suit of the Exrs. of THOMAS GREER, deceased, Greene County.  An auction held at the courthouse on the property and goods and chattels of said Stubblefield, deceased.  Greer high bidder on a 400 acre tract on both sides of Uchee Creek, including the plantation whereon Capt. NATHANIEL TWINING doth now live, including two grants, 250 acres granted Oct. 16 1772, and the other Feb. 25th 1785, for 150 acres, both given to THOMAS GREER, deceased.  (NATHANIEL TWINING married Stubblefield's widow Oct 4, 1796, Columbia County)

        July 10th 1785.  r/Nov. 22nd 1798.  Deed of Gift.  DAVID WALKER to ELIZABETH LOWE, "with love and affection for my daughter, a Negro girl, Dilsey, and her increase forever".  Wit:  THOMAS TILLERY and ISAAC LOWE (Elizabeth's husband) in Savannah.

        June 17th 1798.  r/Nov. 22nd 1798.  HUGH RUSSELL to REUBEN REYNOLDS, for $100, a tract on waters of Great Kiokee Creek, 239 acres in two tracts, no other information given. 

        Oct. 20th 1798.  r/Nov. 22nd 1798.  NINIAN BEALLE MAGRUDER to SAMUEL MAGRUDER for one dollar, a 150 acre tract on Haw Branch, whereon said Samuel now lives.  Granted to N.B. MAGRUDER by Gov. Habersham, April 17, 1772.  Bounded by LAZENBY, THOMAS JONES and said Magruder.

        May 19th 1798.  r/Nov. 22nd 1798.  THOMAS STAPLER and wife, Ruth of Hancock County, to Hayden PRIOR, for 71 pounds, 135 1/2 acres on Cane Creek, originally granted in two tracts to JAMES DANELLY, and THOMAS STAPLER.  Ruth relinquishes dower.

        Nov. 22, 1798.  William Hanner SMITH apprentices her two children to PETER WATSON.

        Aug. 1st 1793.  r/Nov. 23rd 1798.  RICHARD NAPIER to THOMAS NAPIER, JR., for 300 pounds 100 acres at head of Whiteoak Creek (note under deed states that THOMAS NAPIER, JR was son of RICHARD NAPIER)

        Sept. 3rd 1793.  r/Nov. 24th 1798.  THOMAS GREER to PETER STUBBLFFIELD of Wilkes County, for 600 pounds a 400 acres tract on both sides of Uchee Creek, originally granted to THOMAS GREER.  (See deed dated Sept. 12th 1798)

        June 10th 1795.  r/Nov. 26th 1798.  MARY WALKER of Warren County to MERRYMAN THORNE, for 48 pounds, a 117 acre tract out of a tract granted April 4, 1787.  (gives metes only)

        Nov. 5th 1798.  Nov. 27th 1798.  RICHARD RANDOLPH to JACOB DAVIS for $100, a 50 acre tract on Germany Creek, originally granted to WILLIAM FEW.

        June 9th 1798.  r/Nov. 28 1798.  JOHN RICH and wife Mary of Elbert County, to CHARLES DAMRON for $30, 28 acres part of a tract granted to JOHN FOSTER on waters of Michael's or Germany Creek, by him to said Rich.

        Jan. 15th 1798.  r/Dec. 1st 1798.  DANIEL WOOD of Richmond County, to JAMES CARTLEDGE for $300, 200 acres on Little River in St. Paul's Parish, now Columbia County, originally granted to HUGH MIDDLETON, Nov. 7, 1769. By will of the late DANIEL WOLICON, devised to DANIEL WOOD (Will written in Richmond County, probated 1813.  A copy registered in Columbia County.  Daniel was grandson and son of ISAAC WOOD).

        Sept. 25th 1784.  r/Dec. 5th 1798.  TIMOTHY BARNARD of Wilmington Island, Esquire, to EMANUEL WAMBERSIE of Augusta, for 100 pounds, a 200 acres tract in St. Paul's Parish (now Richmond County) bounded SE by OLIVER MATTHEWS and ISAAC LOWE.  SW by STEPHEN DAY.  All other sides vacant at time of survey)  (Located in Wrightsborough Township).  Wit:  THOMAS GALPHIN, JAMES RAE in Savannah.

        Sept. 15th 1789.  r/Dec. 5th 1798.  EMANUEL WOMBERSIE to THOMAS S. JONES, for 100 pounds, above listed tract.

        Dec. 6th 1798.  Power of Attorney.  CHARLES YANCY of Louisa County, Virginia, appoints PETER CRAWFORD, attorney in Georgia and South Carolina, "to sell my land in S.C., and collect all monies due from RICHARD P. WHITE".

        Nov. 15th 1797.  r/Dec. 19th 1798.  ZACHARIAH SPIERS to JONOTHAN WARD of Richmond County, for $150, 113 acres on north side of Uchee Creek, bounded by WILLIAM TINDALL, JAMES TINSLEY, WILLIAM BOOKER, A. CRAWFORD and ZACHARIAH CHAMBLISS.

        Jan 9th 1799.  Receipt ... SUSANNAH COLEMAN (formerly ROSEBOROUGH), and son WILLIAM ROSEBOROUGH to WILLIAM OSBURN:  "Sir, please to pay Mr.l DUDLEY HARGROVE $167 of the money lodged in your hands by us, to discharge a bond given by us to HARRISON COLEMAN".  (either brother-in-law or step-son)  Executor of estate of Coleman (and this shall be your discharge from us for that sum)  Your most obedient and humble servant.  Signed:  SUSANNAH COLEMAN, Nov. 8, 1795.

        Aug. 9th 1796.  r/Jan 11 1799.  SAMUEL BROWN and wife Mary, to AARON PARKES for 50 pounds, 32 acres out of a 200 acre grant to said Brown, signed by His Excellency, the Governor, in Council (neither name nor date given)

        May 19th 1798.  r/Jan. 11th 1799.  THOMAS STAPLER and wife Ruth, of Hancock County, to JOHN SANDERS for 250 pounds, sell 364 1/2 acres on Cane Creek, it being part of a 300 acre tract granted to said Stapler and part of JOHN DANELLY.

        June 17th 1798.  r/Feb. 1st 1799.  JOHN WEREAT, Esquire of Hardwicke, Bryan County, to MICHAEL BURKE, doctor, of the City of Savannah, for $500, sells Mount Hope Plantation, 550 acres, bounded east by lands of JOHN GLOVER, south by WILLIAM CRITTENDON and Larrimore's Old Fields, lately occupied by WILLIAM COUSINS, N.E. by Savannah River.

        March 5th 1792.  Feb 8th 1799.  JAMES MCMILLEN and "Wine", his wife (Winney?) to THOMAS MILES, for 200 pounds, a 200 acres plantation on Savannah River, adj. BEVERLY LOWE, the Uchee Creek, JAMES BURROUGHS and RAE.

        Dec. 11th 1798.  r/Feb. 8 1799.  JOS. DAVIS to BENJAMIN PIERCE for $35, sells 86 acres bounded by LOWE, HAYNES and HIGGANBOTHAM.  Wife Melly relinquishes dower.

        Aug. 20th 1798.  r/Feb. 22nd 1799.  JOHN PARKES BACON to JESSE OFFUTT for $400, sells 340 acres of mixed lands on Little Kiokee Creek, granted to WILLIAM BACON, deceased, on July 15th 1785, bounded by ROGER QUALLS, BEVERLY LOWE.  All other sides vacant.  Granted by Gov. Elbert.

        Sept. 20th 1798.  r/Feb 22 1799.  DAVID PERRYMAN and Flower, his wife, to HAYDEN PRIOR, for 80 pounds, a 100 acre tract bounded by Appling's land.  (Village of Applington)

        Apr. 16th 1796.  r/Feb 22nd 1798.  JOSEPH RAY and wife, Nancy, to JOHN ARMSTRONG of Lincoln County, for 31 pounds, four shillings, 39 acres on Upton Creek near the mouth, part of tract formerly the property of Col. GRIERSON, confiscated from him as a British officer and sold to said RAY by the Commissioners of Confiscated Lands. 

        Dec. 29th 1798.  r./Feb 22nd 1799.  WILLIAM JOHNSON and wife Mary, formerly DAVIS, to WILLIAM BALLARD and wife Susannah, formerly DAVIS (daughter of said Mary and late husband Theopolius) of Washington County, for $200, a tract of 100 acres bounded to ZACHARIAH LAMAR, SR., and REDMAN estate.  JOHN SHACKLEFORD, JOHN WOODS and WALTER MADDOX.  Granted to THEOPHILUS DAVIS, Oct 4, 1774.

        Nov. 16th 1798.  r/Feb. 22nd 1799.  ENOCH RICHARDSON and wife Mary, of Richmond County and ZEPHENIAH ATHY, both planters, for $214.25, sell for that amount 50 acres on Red's Mill seat, part of 100 acres conveyed to said RICHARDSON by JOHN RICHARDSON, Sept 19th 1783.  Mary relinquishes dower.

        April 17th 1794. r/Feb. 22nd 1799.  JEREMIAH LAMKIN to Adms. of WILLIAM DIXON and Elizabeth, for 100 pounds, a 260 acre tract bounded by Savannah River.  East by said Lamkin.  South by Capt. BECKHAM.  West by DIXON land on the east side of Middleton's Ferry Road.

        Nov. 16th 1798.  r/Feb. 23rd 1799.  JOHN KNOTT of Granville County, N.C., to JOHN DAVIS for $236, sells 100 acres on the Quaker Road, bounded by BROWNSON's land on south.  SAMUEL WILSON on west, JOHN LEE on north and east.  Originally granted to JOHN HILL, April 2nd 1771, by said Hill conveyed to JOHN KNOTT, May 13, 1774.

        Feb. 23 1799.  Papers of Apprenticeship.  WILLIAM WATKINS, planter, of Richmond County, binds out his son John, unto WILLIAM MILES, during the full term of 16 years.  John is to serve his master faithfully, shall obey his lawful commands; shall see no damage done to his master's property without giving notice; shall not waste his master's good, commit fornication, contract matrimony, or play at any unlawful games during his term of servitude.  Shall not absent himself by night or day.  In return, Miles shall cause him to be instructed in reading, writing and farming in all its branches.  Miles shall give the apprentice sufficient meat, drink, apparel, washing....and lodging.  Witness:  THOMAS WHITE, Justice of the Peace.

        May 12th 1795.  r/March 12, 1799.  THOMAS YOUNG and Elizabeth, his wife, of Bryan County, planter, to JAMES STEWART, for 130 pounds, 500 acres, originally granted to said Young of the then Parish of St. Paul, bounded west by CASTLEBERRY and CLAIBORNE.  Southwest by Dr. WELCH and SHERWOOD BUGG.  All other sides vacant at time of survey.  Elizabeth relinquishes dower.
