        April 3rd, 1793.  r/Feb. 19th 1795.  ISAIAH WRIGHT and wife Rebecca to ZACHARIAH SPIERS, for 74 pounds, five shillings, 165 acres on Big Kiokee Creek, willed to Isaiah by DYONISIUS WRIGHT.

 

        Feb. 24th, 1774.  r/Mar. 12, 1795.  JOHN FOSTER and wife Elizabeth, to JOHN SHACKLEFORD for 75 pounds, a tract of 150 acres granted to JESSE REAVES by Gov. Wright, Aug 2, 1774, and 50 acres granted to NATHAN MOST, Mar. 21, 1784, by Gov. Matthews, located on road from Augusta to Brownsborough, bounded by NICHOLSON on East.  REDMOND on South.  THEOPOLIS DAVIS on West.  DOWNS on North.  MCNEAR on northeast.  JENKINS on southeast.

 

       Jan. 4th 1796.  r/Aug. 25th 1796.  JAMES RICHARDS, Sheriff of Richmond Ctr., sells four tracts of land in Columbia County on Savannah River.  200 acres by northwest by THOMAS GILLELAND, granted to ROGER QUARLES, July 5th 1774; by him conveyed to ROBERT  JAMES and JOHN RAE, SAMUEL ELBERT and THOMAS GRAHAM. 150 acres adjoining granted to THOMAS GILLILAND Oct 2, 1759 by him to ANDREW MOORE and by him to the above.  250 acres adjoining the above granted to RALPH KILGORE, Dec. 16th 1756.  100 acres bounded on East by CARTLEDGE, granted to THOMAS HOGAN Dec. 5, 1769, conveyed by him to ANDREW MOORE by him to the Rae's.  In all 700 acres sold at auction purchased by WILLIAM JACKSON for 300 pounds.

 

       Feb. 20th 1775.  r/Aug. 25th 17996.  WILLIAM CASTLEBERRY, SR., and wife Margaret, to GEORGE RAY, for 27 pounds, 100 acres bounded at time of survey by lands vacant.  Granted to said CASTLEBERRY by Sir JAMES WRIGHT, July 4, 1769.

 

        Aug. 10th 1775.  r/Aug 25th 1796.  RICHARD CASTLEBERRY and wife Ann, to GEO. RAY for 25 pounds, 150 acres granted said Richard, Oct 3, 1796 bounded southwest by LEONARD CLAIBORNE.  Northwest by THOMAS AYRES.  Other sides vacant.

 

        Aug. 28th 1792. r/Aug. 25th 1796.  WINNIFRED PINSON, widow of GEORGE RAY, for 30 pounds, 100 acres surveyed for EZEKIAL OFFUTT Sept. 17, 1787.

        Oct. 4th 1796.  r/Oct. 11th 1796.  JOSEPH WARE, Esquire, Sheriff of Richmond County to SEABORN JONES, Attorney of Augusta.  Ware auction of property of DALZIEL HUNTER, lately seized under an execution by the court, on the suit of GEORGE UNT against HUNTER.  ABIMILECH HAWKINS, Extrs. of DANIEL WALLICON.  SEABORN JONES was high bidder @ $41.00

        Apr. 10th 1800.  r/Apr. 14th 1801.  THOMAS BURNSIDE to JAMES GUEST for $60.00, seven acres, part of a tract on Germany's Creek, granted to SAMUEL WILSON, by his deed to BURNSIDE.

 

        Mar. 13th 1800.  r/Apr. 14th 1801.  WILLIAM THOMAS to JAMES GUEST., for $85, 17 acres bounded West by JOHN EMBREE.  South by said GUEST, North by Augusta Great Road . (In Wrightsborough)

 

        Aug. 31st 1789.  r/Apr. 24th 1801.  JOSEPH MENDENHALL and wife Elizabeth, of  Surrey County, N.C., to JAMES GUEST, for 40 pounds, 100 acres on Germany Creek in Wrightsborough Township, bounded East by MATHEW MOATS and Nathan SIDWELL, North, JAMES WILSON, Originally granted to JOHN HARTSHORN, Oct. 4th 1774 and conveyed to MENDENHALL by said HARTSHORN, April 8, 1784.  Elizabeth relinquishes dower.

 

        Aug. 6, 1791.  r/ July 31, 1792.  JOEL CRAWFORD sells to JOHN PEARRE for one pound, 17 shillings, 200 acres on Spirit  Creek, Richmond County.

 

        Dec. 1st, 1791.  r/July 31st 1792.  MORRIS KELLY, heir of SPENCER KELLY, for 80 pounds, sells to WILLIAM CONE, 100 a. granted to SPENCER KELLY, Sept. 6, 1774 by Governor James Wright.

 

        Feb. 10th 1790.  r/Aug. 1st 1791.  BENJAMIN MOSELEY and wife Janie, sell to JOSHUA GRINAGE for 50 pounds, 144 acres granted MOSELEY in 1786 bounded southwest by GERMANY'S land and southeast by BEALLE and HAYNES.

 

        Oct. 2nd 1784.  r/Aug. 16th 1792.  ABRAHAM DAVIS, ISAAC DAVIS and MARGARET DAVIS, sell to GEORGE CARTER of Montgomery County, VA, for 20 pounds Sterling, 150 a. on Germany Creek, in Wrightsborough Township, bounded northwest by THOMAS WATSON.  All other sides vacant.  Granted to JOHN DAVIS, June 7, 1774, left by will to ABRAHAM, ISAAC and MARGARET.

 

        Dec. 30th 1791, r/Aug. 20th 1792.  JOHN BRYAN and Hellen, his wife of Burke County, to Henry WAGGONER for 50 pounds, specie, a plantation containing 100 acres in Wrightsborough township, Parish of St. Paul, when granted by His Majesty King George, the Third, August, 4, 1772. 

 

        Nov. 5, 1792.  ROBERT DIXON, planter, to JACOB DUCKWORTH, for 50 pounds, one sorrel mare, one gray horse, one bay horse, one brindle cow and calf.  One brown cow and calf; one pied cow and calf.  One feather bed and furniture; all household and kitchen furniture.  One riding saddle.  200 bushels of corn, five hogs. 

 

        March 1st 1785.  r/Oct. 22nd 1792.  JONOTHAN SELL to MATTHEW MOTE (Moat) for 50 pounds, 100 acres on Germany Creek, bounded North by own lands.  All other sides vacant at time of survey.  Granted to SELL, July 3, 1770.

 

        July 25th 1791.  r/Nov. 8th 1792.  ISAAC JUSTICE of Wilkes County to DAVID DOUGLASS for 80 pounds, 50 acres on both sides of Sullivan's Creek, whereon DOUGLASS now lives adjoining LUKE LANDERS.

 

         November 4, 1792.  Power of Attorney ROBERT DIXON, late, soldier in the North Carolina State Legion, but now of Columbia County, appoints BRITAIN SANDERS, Esquire, of Wake County, N.C. to liquidate a claim as a soldier in N.C., for Rev. bounty. 

 

        July 9, 1791.  r/Nov. 3, 1792.  JOHN KING of South Carolina, to JOHN ALLISON for 100 pounds, a tract of 250 acres on both sides of William's Creek (part in Columbia and part in Wilkes) surveyed by LEROY HAMMOND, Nov 27th, 17 ??? granted to KING by Sir JAMES WRIGHT, 1767. 

 

        Oct 9, 1791.  r/Nov. 8, 1792.  JAMES HICKEY to ISAAC BLUNT for 40 pounds, 200 acres on Rocky Comfort Creek, granted to ROBERT WILKINS by Gov. Handley, Esq.  Mar. 31, 1788.

 

        Nov. 8, 1791.  r/Nov. 8, 1793.  JOHN BENSON to MOSES GRANBURY for 50 pounds, "good and legal money".  267 acres originally granted to LEVI BUSH by Gov. Handley Mar. 31st, 1788 on Rocky Comfort Creek.  (The creek is now in Warren County)

 

        Oct. 27th, 1792.  r/Nov. 23rd, 1792.  Affidavit, "WILLIAM HOZICK of Greenbriar County, Virginia, being duly sworn, saith that DAVID COURSON made title to him of 200 acres in Columbia County, (then St. Paul's Parish) on Sept. 9, 1774.  Believe from the best information he is able to collect, that he, the deponent was of full age and over 21".  Further, deponent saith not.

 

        Oct. 29, 1799.  r/Nov. 24, 1792.  Deed of Gift.  GEORGE WALTON with friendship and affection for JESSE WINFRED, a 150 a. plantation near Claiborne's Mill, on the Great Kiokee Creek, adjoining JOHN GLENN, Esquire, and JOHN WALTON 

 

 

        Jan. 23, 1787.  r/Nov. 24th 1792.  JOHN STANFORD and wife RACHAEL, to MORDECAI BENTON for 50 pounds, 100 acres on waters of the Kiokee, adjoining Nathan Harris, James Cobbs and Collins. 

 

        Feb. 2, 1790.  r/Nov. 26 1792.  JOHN BEALLE and wife Rebecca, sell to BENJAMIN FINNEY for 100 pounds, the land on which they live on Uchee Creek, containing 100 acres, granted to RAWLS?, PERRY, adjoining WILLIAM BEALLE, JOHN RAMSEY and MOSSMAN. 

 

        Nov. 19th 1796.  MARY CULBREATH and MARY RAMSEY, heirs of EDWARD CULBREATH of Mecklenburg County, VA. appoint husbands to act in legal capacity and recover their shares of estate.

 

        Jan. 5, 1797.  r/Jan 10, 1797.  The above sell their share in a 400 acres tract on the Roanoke River in Mecklenburg County, VA. to THOMAS GREENWOOD of Virginia for 240 pounds. 

 

        Mar. 20, 1796.  r/Jan 25, 1797.  WM. SHIELDS, Jr., to ANDREW STURGIS, for 15 pounds, 30 acres on Cane Creek, it being the one fifth share of a tract granted JOHN SHIELDS, Oct 4 1774, containing 150 acres.  Said William is the reputed son of said John and inherited the land.  Bounded by STAPLER and ROSSAU.

        

        May 16, 1797.  r/May 16 1797.  NANCY SANDERS, to self, as Admtx. of estate of EPHRAIM SANDERS, deceased, put  the whole estate for sale and she was the high bidder @ $2,078.

        Oct. 18th 1796.  r/Oct. 14th 1800.  JOHN NIDAY (also signed Nidy, Kniday and Nidadt) to THOMAS CARR for $48.00, tract of 15 acres on Greenbriar Creek, part of 100 acres bounty granted to MOSES LINDSEY in 1785 sold by him to WILLIAM JONES, Mar. 17, 1786.  By Jones conveyed to NIDAY. 

 

        Nov. 22nd 1800.  Receipt.  JAMES GRAY and wife, Elizabeth (formerly wife of BENJAMIN REYNOLDS) received of BENJAMIN  REYNOLDS, 100 pounds in full payment for our rights, title and dower, in Negro slaves, to which we are entitled by law, from estate of BENJAMIN REYNOLDS, late of Orange County, VA., to wit:  Will, brother of Selah, that was bought from JOSEPH REYNOLDS and conveyed legally to BENJAMIN REYNOLDS deceased, now in possession of WILLIAM REYNOLDS of Orange Cty, Virginia. 

 

        Sept. 5, 1800.  r/Dec 9th 1800.  DAVID PERRYMAN to ELISHA PERRYMAN for 50 dollars, 116 acre on Greenbriar Creek and Big Kiokee, originally granted to said David by Gov. Telfair, adjoining the widow APPLING.

 

        Aug. 12, 1800.  r/Dec. 9 1800.  JAS. ROSS to JOHN Fuller for $10, 34 acres tract originally granted to JAMES FOSS, July 30, 1800.

 

        Nov. 15, 1788.  r/Dec. 9, 1800.  WILLIAM STURGIS of Richmond County, to CHARLES KENNON of Halifax County, VA. for 100 lbs.  400 acres on Sullivan's Creek, bounded southwest by RAE, northwest by SHEPPARD, all other sides vacant at time of survey.

 

        Dec. 18th 1800.  Deed of gift from JOSHUA WYNNE to sons, JOSHUA, JR., JOHN and WILLIAMSON.

 

          Jan. 2, 1798.  r/Jan 22, 1798.  THOS. JONES, boatright to ANTHONY COOPER, millright, for 200 pounds, 150 acres, originally granted to EZEKIEL STALLINGS,  that lies below run of the main stream called Red's Creek. 

 

        May 15th 1801.  r/Jan. 15th 1801? JACOB HIGGANBOTHAM and wife Anne, of Elbert County, to JACOB SHOVER (Shiver?), for 80 pounds, 200 acres bounded South by THOMAS HIGGANBOTHAM.  All other sides vacant . (In presence of WM HIGGANBOTHAM).

 

        Jan. 21st 1801.  RICHARD MERIWETHER grants freedom to a slave named Suckey BARRETT and her children, Lucy and Betsy, for faithful service.

 

        Jan. 29, 1801.  Certificate.  "This is to certify that on or about the year 1786 I did sell and assign to THOMAS WASHINGTON, a tract of 380 acre on Little River originally granted to ROBERT HATCHER, and which I purchased from IGNATIUS FEW, Esq."  s/JAMES BELCHER 

 

        Apr. 3, 1796.  r/Jan 29, 1801.  JAS. and ARCHIBALD BULLOCH of Chatham County to WILLIAM BULLOCH:  "Whereas ARCHIBALD BULLOCH by will dated Feb. 11 1775 did give and devise to all his sons living at the time of his death, all his land and real estate, to be equally divided, we the three sons living at his deceased, have amicably divided and apportioned the real estate, each of us being over 21, consisting of 400 acres, granted to said Archibald, adjoining HUGH and ROBERT MIDDLETON and GEORGE GALPHIN; 300 acres bounded by SELLS, SHIELDS, Coats and ROSS granted to said ARCHIBALD BULLOCH.  200 a. adjoining above for $2.00.  James and Archibald, sell all rights to brother, William.

 

        May 3, 1800.  r/Feb 27, 1801.  Bill of Sale.  SAMUEL BOWDRIE of Augusta to JAMES STEWART for $400.00 a negro wench, Buky and her female child, Katy. 

 

        Aug. 3, 1799.  r/Feb. 27th 1801.  FRANCES SHACKLEFORD of Fayetteville, N.C. for $350, paid me on the account of JAMES SHACKLEFORD by JOHN WILSON and Co.  Merchants of Augusta, a Negro woman Dinah. 

 

        Dec. 9, 1800.  r/Feb . 27, 1801.  Deed of Gift:  CHARLES DENHAM to JOHN HOLLINSHEAD:  "Whereas said Charles purchased a Negro winch, Chinda, and her child called Poll, at a sale of African Negroes, by ROBERT WATTS, merchant, for paternal affection, for said John, his own father, JOHN HOLLINSHEAD being deceased, and said John, a minor, and said Charles wishing to contribute something to his support, give said slaves."  Charles' wife, Sinai, signs relinquishment of dower.

 

        Sept. 24, 1798.  r/Apr. 14th 1801.  NATHAN SIDWELL to JAMES GUEST, for $30, 10 acres on Germany's Creek, part of a 100 acre tract granted to JOHN SHIELDS and bequeathed to said Nathan by father's will.  (Apr. 5, 1782, Richmond County)

 

        1790.  r/Nov. 13, 1795.  REUBEN BROWNSON to AMBROSE HOLLIDAY:  "Owing Holliday some 9,900 pounds of cured, inspected tobacco, in three annual payments, mortgage and delivers to said HOLLIDAY, five healthy, American born slaves, two males and three females, none less than 12 normore than 20 years old."  Also the following property, mostly on Germany Creek:  100 acres originally granted to KNOWLES PACE, Sept. 5, 1769.  200 acres to HOLLIDAY by Gov. Telfair, Mar. 17th 1786.  287 1/2 acres to HOLIDAY by Gov. Handley, Mar. 31, 1788, 100 acres to HOLLIDAY, the deed of which has been destroyed by accidental fire, on which I now live.  70 a. adjoining the above granted HOLLIDAY, June 6th 1768.  28 acres adjoining the above granted HOLLIDAY Mar. 31, 1788.  In all 885 1/2 acres sold to me by HOLLIDAY Apr. 8, 1791. 

 

        Dec. 4, 1795.  r/Dec 4, 1795.  Power of Attorney.  JAMES GRADEY empowers JOSEPH RENNOLDS of Spotsylvania Coiunty, VA., to recover slaves now in possession of WM. RENNOLDS; also 40 acres of land in Orange County. 

 

        June 10th 1795.  r/Nov. 24th 1795.  PETER ZACHRY to WILLIAM BARNETT, for 22 pounds, 10 shillings, 150 acres adjoining ZACHERY and RICHARD HILL.

 

        Aug. 20, 1795.  r/Feb. 22, 1796.  WM. FEW to WATERS DUNN, Jr. for 60 pounds 100 acres on Greenbriar Creek, granted to said WILLIAM FEW, JR by Gov. Walton, Sept. 14, 1789. 

 

        Apr. 11, 1789.  r/Mar. 3, 1796, JAS. DANELLY to FREDERICK COBBS for 150 lbs. sells 150 acres on Great Kiokee Creek bounded northeast by DANELLY. Southwest by WARDEN and HOGE.

 

        Sept. 29th 1795.  r/Mar. 3rd 1796.  FREDERICK COBBS and Sarah, his wife, to WILLIAM HOGE, above tract for 100 lbs. 

 

        Jan. 28th 1796.  r/Mar. 4h 1796.  ROBERT WARE and wife, Jancy, of Wilkes County, to THOMAS MOON for 200 pounds, sell 400 a. known as "Jordan Old Field".

 

        Feb. 17th 1793.  R/Mar. 4th 1796.  JOHN SORRELS to THOMAS MOON for 14 pounds sells 22 acres on Sullivan's Creek granted to said SORRELS Sept. 16, 1787.

 

        Nov. 16th 1795.  r/Mar. 8th 1796.  Power of Attorney.  MARTHA HOWARD authorizes sons Acquilla and Dorsey (as widow and sole Admx. of LEMUEL HOWARD),  "to recover from the Rev. JOHN COLEMAN, a minister of the Protestant Episcopal Church of Hartford County Maryland, the full amt. of bonds and interest due to the estate of LEMUEL HOWARD, deceased.  Also any other sums of money which may be due."  (Lemuel married Martha Scott 1760)

 

        Dec. 3, 1793.  r/Mar. 14 1796.  JAS. ROSS and wife Anna, to BENJAMIN BLEDSOE for 100 pounds, sell 200 acres on both sides of Little Kiokee Creek, being the plantation whereon Bledsoe now lives.  Originally granted to Martin WEATHERFORD.  March 15, 1771 and conveyed to said Ross.

 

        Jan. 28th 1793.  r/Mar. 14, 1796.  DAVID HARRIS to BENJAMIN BLEDSOE, deed to gift, negro boy named Caesar, going on three. 

 

        July 20, 1795.  R/May 14, 1796.  WM. KENON of Wilkes County to ROGER KAGLE for 30 pounds, 150 acre on Rockey?.

 

        Dec. 10th 1795.  r/Mar. 15th 1796.  Elizabeth, Dinah and Rachel STORY of Washington County; Thomas and Rebecca STORY of Warren County and JOHN BROOKS* of Warren County, sell to JAMES ALLEN for 50 pounds, 50 acres originally granted to JAMES COBB. (For a complete transcription of this deed, please click HERE) *The book from which these deeds were transcribed, shows James Brooks.  This is in error.  Copy of actual deed provided by Monroe Jones indicates this and is transcribed in it's entirety at the above link.

 

        Mar. 15th, 1796.  r/Mar. 15th 1796.  Deed of Gift.  ANN FLOYD of S.C., widow with love and affection to daughter Winifred, wife of THOMAS JOHNSTON, a negro girl, RoZe and a Negro boy, Davy. 

 

        Feb. 14th 1794.  r/Mar. 18th 1796.  DANIEL CONNELL and wife Mary, of Richmond County to DREDZIL PACE for 80 pounds, 100 acres being a part of 200-acre tract granted to JOHN PARKER July 1774 on Mill Creek.

 

        Sept. 8th 1795.  r/Mar. 25th 1796.  Deed of Gift.  MARY MATHIS, with love and affection to son William, land on Briar Creek, 100 acres granted to said Mary by Gov. Elbert, Sept. 23rd 1785; 150 acres granted to said Mary by Gov. Handley, Oct 4th 1788; also 16 head of cattle, with a crop and 1/2 crop in each year, marked "M-3".  Two feather beds and furniture.  Six basins, two dishes, six plates, two pots, one Dutch oven.  One skillet, one pair fire tongs and a box of iron. 

 

        Sept. 12, 1794.  r/Apr 3rd 1796.  JOHN FEE of Augusta, merchant to Dr. THOMAS RUSTON of Philadelphia, Commonwealth of Penn. for five shillings and other valuable considerations, 18,000 a. in Columbia County, laid off in 15 tracts of 1000 acres each, and six tracts of 500 acres each by Gov. Matthew of Ga.)  NOTE:  He was famous for giving away more land than was available)  No other land in Columbia County was ever laid off square.  A plat attached shows the land laid off in neat square situated on "different waters of the Kiokee Rivers", in Columbia County, depicts Dakart's Creek and branch of Deep Creek, neither of which are known by that name now.  (The whole thing seems to be fraudulent)

 

        May 13th 1796.  r./May 14th 1796.  Power of Attorney.  ALEXANDER BEALLE appoints JAMES BEALLE, attorney of Montgomery County, Maryland, to recover all debts, legacies, etc, due him.

 

        Oct 19th 1793.  r/June 14 1796.  DALZIER HUNTER, Esquire of Augusta, sells to JAMES WATERS, planter for 50 pounds, 339 acres on headwater of Kiokee and Uchee Creeks, bounded by said Hunter, also MAGRUDER, CARROLL and CALL. 

 

        Nov. 16th 1792.  r/July 27th 1796.  GEORGE HANDLEY, Sheriff of Richmond Cty, to JOHN MILLER of Chatham County, boot-maker, 200 acres.  "Whereas FRANCIS COURVOISIER was granted judgement against the estate of JOHN DOBBINS, the Sheriff sold at auction (Dec. 6, 1790) 200 acres in Columbia County, formerly St. Paul's Parish, granted to said Dobbins, Mar. 3, 1767.  Miller paid 25 pounds for it. 

 

        Jan. 13th 1795.  r/July 24th 1796.  RICHARD NAPIER and Molly, his wife, to CHARLES FENNELL, for five shillings, 100 acres on Upton Creek, about three miles from Wrightsborough, on east side of said creek, bounded by PORTER, FENNELL and PARKES. 

 

        Mar. 17th 1796.  r/July 27th 1796.  JAMES MOORE to ROBERT QUINN for 10  pounds 100 acres, part of a survey of 685 acres granted to said Moore. 1796.

 

        Aug 6, 1795.  r/July 28 1796.  Deed of Gift:  JOSHUA MORGAN of Wilkes County, to "my loving grandchildren, Joshua, Betsy, Billy, Jimmy and Thomas MORGAN, four cows and calves; one three-year-old steer.  Two year-old heifers.  Two bulls, 26 head hogs, three sow; one brown horse, 10 years old 11 hands high.  One woman's saddle and bridle, two feather beds and furniture.  Two bedsteads, 14 head of geese.  Three pewter dishes, 14 plates, four basins.  1/2 dozen cups and saucers.  Four bowls, three mug; two iron pots , one Dutch oven.  One skillet.  Two pine tables, four chairs, one spinning wheel and one candle mould."

 

        Mar. 12, 1788.  r/July 29 1796.  JOS. MOONEY of Newberry , S.C. to JOHN MOONEY of Richmond County.  (after 1790, Columbia County) for 50 pounds, 100 acres on Upton Creek, part of a 500 acres tract laid out for JOSEPH MOONEY, Sr., deceased on July 5th 1769 as recorded in Book 1, folio 142 (Colonial Conveyances and/or Grant Books, Archives) to be laid out of the south corner, at the creek and continue to SAMUEL BROWN'S  line, thence along Brown's line to make 100 acres.
