Dickson/Hicks Family Bible

Thomas Dickson - Mary Jane Hicks family Bible records, 1853 publication date, record dates 1826 to 1881, transcribed by Gina Ruth Smith (Dodd), May 29-May 30, 2004, in Crawford County, Georgia.  This family has connections to Crawford County, Georgia and Bibb County, Georgia. Crawford County marriage records listed at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/county/crawford/Marriages/marriagerecs.htm  reference this marriage with the Dickson surname spelled Dixon.

Note from transcriber: The family records below are contained in the Dickson family Bible, in May 2004 in the possession of my mother, Ruth Newberry Smith of Crawford County, Georgia. The Bible was for many years in the possession of her paternal aunts, Lorena Newberry and Nellie Mae Newberry, both late of Lizella, Bibb County, Georgia; they were daughters of John Lee Newberry and Mary Leola Dickson Newberry. I have transcribed the records accurately to the best of my ability, noting pagination and preserving line breaks, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation as well as I could. Those interested in this family may also wish to see my transcription of scrapbook family records apparently compiled by Virgil S. Holton and Anna Elizabeth Dickson Holton (later Dent), which contain some of the same (or similar) information, and also my transcription of the Columbus Madison Newberry - Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Marshall Bible family records.

The records in the Dickson Bible appear to have been entered at various times, in at least two different handwritings, though in some cases several entries may have been entered at one time. The "PARENTS' REGISTER" section information appears to have been entered in pencil; the other records are in brown ink. On the first page of births, the ink of the first several entries appears to have run too freely, making some letters close to illegible, but even so those entries as a whole are fairly legible.

The Bible is in fair condition, front and back boards still present but held together by cloth-repaired spine. A few pages are loose, some crumpled. Front title page (loose and crumpled) contains the information: THE PICTORIAL BIBLE ... NEW YORK: J. S. REDFIELD -- CLINTON HALL Corner Nassau and Beakman St. Additional information on a New Testament title page reads: NEW YORK: PUBLISHED BY ROBERTS SEARS, 181 WILLIAM STREET. J.S. REDFIELD 110 7 112 NASSAU ST.  STEREOTYPED BY REDFIELD AND SAVAGE, 13 CHAMBERS STREET, NEW YORK. 1853.

Within the records below, italic font represents transcriber's notes.

BOLD FACE CAPITALS  represent printed headings on family records pages.

Underlining denotes words, letters, or numerals about which notable doubt about what was intended existed in the transcriber's mind.
