Mortgage Deed
Beckum/Beckham, Allen to W. J. Piles
Georgia/Crawford County} This indenture made this ninth day of April Eighteen hundred & fifty seven between Allen Beckham & William J. Piles both of the county & state aforesaid. Witnesseth that for & in consideration of the sum of five dollars in had paid by the said William J. Piles to the said Allen Beckham the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, the said Allen has bargained sold & conveyed & do by these presents bargain sell & convey to the said William J. Piles his heirs & assigns all & singular the crop of corn cotton fodder shucks peas potatoes &c which the said Allen Beckham shall or will make the present year to wit 1857, Provided or unless that if the said Allen Beckham pay or cause to be paid to said Wm. J. Piles his heirs or assigns the following described note to wit a note for twenty seven 48/100 dollars payable to Jason Castleberry or bearer due one day after date with interest from first day of January preceding the date of said note & dated March 14th 1854 & signed (Allen Beckham) with a credit endorsed on the back of said note for ten dollars dated November 3rd 1855. Now should the said Allen well & truly pay or cause to be paid to said William J. Piles his heirs or assigns the said promissory note with the interest thereon, then this obligation to cease determine & be void as also the said promissory note otherwise to remain in full force & effect.
In witness said Allen Beckam hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day & year first written.
