Articles of agreement made & entered into between John Sloan and James W. Sloan
both of the county and state afore said.
Article 1st:
The said James W. Sloan agrees to clear and place into cultivation that portion
(this ensuing year), (towit the year 1847) of land belonging to the said John
Sloan which [has?] now the timber billed or [do ordered]?, the said James to
fence the said ground with a good and sufficient fence. Provided the said John
Sloan [fliar] the rails, to do the same split, the said James to haul the rails
in and of himself without any charge or trouble on the part of said John. And if
as above stated, and that the said James Sloan is to [assist?] the said John to
build a double log cabin and also [assist?] in building two chimneys one to
each wall or pen, and that he the said James is to find himself & family without
any charge or expense
to the said John, during the term of one year from the time of commencing or
during the time they live together.
Article 2nd:
The said John Sloan on his part to find his own provisions, and to allowed the
said James Sloan for his services for performing the work specified in the first
article. the entire crop of whatever description the same may be which may or
shall be made on the above described piece of ground. And the said John Sloan to
[assist?] only in making [putting?] up the fences. When the rails are hauled as
above specified, and this said John to pay the said James ten dollars for his
services in building the house above specified. When the same be completed, the
same said James to haul the lumber for said houses from the saw mill. And the
said John to pay the sawyer for the planks. And the said James to receive no
more for hauling than already specified in the preceding part of this article.
In witness whereof we have [???] set our hands in the presence of this October
22, 1846.
