J. T. Smith Dead
While walking across his field on last Monday afternoon, Mr. John T. Smith,
58 years old, who resided about two miles east of Knoxville, suffered an attack
of acute indigestion and died before assistance could reach him. Mr. Smith
was born and reared in this county and has many friends who deplore his death.
Besides his widow and nine children he is survived by two sisters and five
brothers, Miss. Nettie Smith, Mrs. Jeff Nichals and W.L., J.Z., P.S., B.E. and
R.L. Smith. Rev. J.D. Snyder conducted the funeral services at Bethel
Church Monday afternoon, where his remains were enterred in the cemetery at that
place. One of the largest congregations that ever attended a funeral at
Bethel cemetery attended this one.
NOTE FROM SUBMITTER: My ancestor, John Thomas Smith
died April 11, 1915 and was buried at Old Bethel in an unmarked grave. Bobby
Stokes had a marker placed for him near some trees where he thought he was
buried but he died before it was inscribed. I have proof of his burial in
this cemetery from an obituary that was given to me by one of my cousins. She
thought that her mother Cornelia Smith, daughter of John and Sallie Scarborough
cut it from the Georgia Post. *****Submitted by
