Mr. Merritt, Beloved Citizen Killed When Hit by Passing Car
Mr. Jack Merritt, 70, of the Third district was struck down on the highway near Unadilla, Tuesday, by a hit-and-run driver.  He died before he reached Macon, where he was rushed in an ambulance. Mr. Merritt was a potter by trade, operating one of the old time hand plants, the only one of its kind in the county.  His home was near Dickson church.  Mr. Merritt and Mr. John William Marshall had delivered a truck load of churns and flower vases to Tifton, Monday and was returning when the accident occurred.  His injuries consisted of internal, hip and shoulder injuries. He was a very devout Methodist christian, daily living his religion.  He will be greatly missed as all who knew him loved him. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Dickson Methodist church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. T. F. Waller, assisted by Rev. J. A. Rountree.  Interment in the church cemetery. Mr. Merritt is survived by two sons, Messrs. Emmett and Monroe Merritt;  two daughters, Mrs. Azaline Hardy and Mrs. Eslie Gordon, and a number of grandchildren, all of Crawford county.  ***** Submitted by Darien Merritt
