Bell, Brian A., Sr.
HADDOCK - Brian Anthony Bell, Sr., 36, of Haddock, died Friday, March 21,
2003. Funeral services will be held at 2P.M., Monday, March 24, 2003 in the
chapel of Simpson-Childs Funeral Home with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Dr. Ron
McClung will officiate. Brian was born in Bibb County and had lived here for the
past eight years. He was the son of Harry E. Bell and Sandra Spann Smith. Brian
was a machinist for Griffin Machine and Design, and of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn M. Bell of Haddock; son, Brian (B. J.) Bell,
Jr., of Haddock; step-daughter, Courtney McKay of Haddock; mother, Sandra Smith
of Roberta; father, Harry E. Bell, Jr. of Macon; sister, Sherrie Griffin of
Macon; two nieces, Stephanie and Jamie Griffin of Macon. The family will receive
friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M., Sunday, at Simpson-Childs Funeral Home, and
they request that those who wish may make donations to Emory Winship Cancer
Institute, Emory University Gift Processing, 795 Gatewood Road, Atlanta, GA

Gay, William Benny "Ben"
ROBERTA - Mr. William Benny "Ben" Gay, 66, of 3889 Hwy. 341 South, Roberta,
died Saturday at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at
Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue with Rev. Gene Scarborough officiating.
Burial will be at Macon Memorial Park. The family requests that employees of
Armstrong World Industries serve as honorary pallbearers. They will receive
friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and may be contacted at their
residence. Mr. Gay, a native of Milan, was the son of the late John and Lillie
Bohannon Gay and the brother of the late Alton Gay. He was a retired security
guard from Armstrong World Industries. He was a veteran of the Air Force, was a
member of VFW Post 658, and was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Survivors
include his wife, Shirley Byrd Gay of Roberta; children, Johnny and Colleen Gay
of Byron, Deborah and Steve Tidwell of Roberta, Jim and Holly Gay of Macon, and
Billy and Stacie Gay of Roberta; his brothers and sisters, John R. Gay of Macon,
Christine Rogers of Eatonton, Lizzie Mae Jones of Eastman, and Allen Gay of
Macon; ten grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Snow's Memorial Chapel,
Pio Nono Avenue has charge of arrangements.
Hightower, Vivian McAfee
ROBERTA - Vivian McAfee Hightower, 33, died March 5, 2003. Services will be
11A.M., Saturday at Crawford County Middle School Auditorium with burial in Pine
Grove Cemetery. Daughter of the late Carolyn Hatcher McAfee, Ms. Hightower was a
Roberta native, a graduate of Crawford County Comprehensive High School, 1988
and a former Geico Insurance employee. Survivors include daughter, Mercedes
Nicole Hightower of Roberta; father, Wilbur James McAfee, Sr. of Roberta;
siblings: Wilbur James McAfee, Jr. and Brittany Shanay McAfee, both of Roberta;
several aunts, uncles and other relatives. Hicks and Sons Funeral Home, Roberta.
Joyner, Robin
CRAWFORD COUNTY - Robin Joyner, age 46, of Crawford County, died early
Wednesday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services
will be held Saturday at 11A.M. at Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley with
interment in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 7:00 until
9:00P.M. at the funeral home. She was a member of All Saint's Episcopal Church
in Warner Robins. Robin graduated from Warner Robins High School with honors and
from the University of Georgia, also with honors. She also did some graduate
work at the University of Maryland School of Engineering. She is survived by her
parents, J. P. and Delores Joyner; sister: Connie (Cary) Collins, and niece,
Heather Collins, all of Crawford County and grandmother, Mildred Williams of

McGee, Louise B.
ROBERTA - Services for Daisy Louise Bellamy McGee will be held at 3:30P.M.,
Friday in the Roberta United Methodist Church. Entombment will be in Roberta
City Cemetery. Mrs. McGee, 84, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003. She was born in
Nashville, TN and had lived in Crawford County since 1948. She was the former
nursing home administrator for Robert Nursing Home and secretary and treasurer
of McGee Electric and Plumbing, Inc. She was a member of the Roberta United
Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Survivors include her husband,
Homer Cleveland McGee of Roberta; her son, Al McGee of Roberta; her daughter:
Linda M. Harper of Plano, TX; four grandchildren and two great-grand-children.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00P.M. at the funeral home.
Goddard Funeral Home of Roberta has charge of arrangements.
McKinney, Ethel Maude Shurley
FORT VALLEY - Ethel Maude Shurley McKinney, 80, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003.
Graveside services will be 11A.M., Thursday, March 6, 2003 in Shurley-Mason
Cemetery on Lower Hartley Bridge Road in Crawford County, Rev. David Wilkins
will officiate. Born in Crawford County, Mrs. McKinney was a homemaker and
attended New Faith Baptist Church. Survivors include children, Margie Jones and
Jerina and Pete Lenaers of Byron; brother and sister-in-law: James and Sue
Shurley of Byron; grandchildren: Tommy and Glenda Rigby of Oglethorpe, Theresa "Cissy"
Rigby of Ellaville, Tony and Kitty McKinney and Jody McKinney of Byron and Diane
Rigby of Columbus; great-grandchildren: Derek Plummer, Jessie McKinney and
Richard McKinney of Byron, Rindy Rigby and Tyler Rigby of Oglethorpe. The family
will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00P.M. Wednesday at Rooks Funeral Home in

Pride, Sarah
ROBERTA-Sarah Pride died March 6, 2003. Services will be 2P.M., Tuesday, in
White Hill Baptist Church in Reynolds, burial Foster Place Cemetery. She was the
daughter of Willie and Ruby Lee Montfort, and widow of Bosie Pride. The family

FORT VALLEY -Services for Roosevelt Respress will be 12P.M., Monday, March
10, 2003 at Bethel Baptist Church, Crawford County. Survivors include children,
Marvin McGhee, Charles Trice, Sr., Roosevelt Trice, Sr., Carolyn Dawson, and
Chiquetta Trice; siblings, Rev. J. W. Respress, Noah Respress, Annie McGhee,

Worthy, Cora Lee
ROBERTA - Cora Lee Worthy, 81, died Sunday. Services will be 11A.M.,
Saturday, in Salem Baptist Church in Upson County, with burial in Prater-Miller
Cemetery in Culloden. Survivors include children, Louise Colbert, Mt. Vernon,
N.Y., Juanita Raines, Laura Mae Blasingame, Edith Worthy, and Gentle Worthy, all
of Roberta, Sheila Eates of Griffin. The family may be contacted at 9071 Hwy. 80
