Lucas, James Turner
From THE GEORGIA POST, Crawford Co. GA Friday May 30, 1924
Friday afternoon, Mar 23rd, at his home in Taylor County as the twilight sadly,
slowly wrapped its mantle over the earth, life was leaving the body of James
Turner Lucas, and at ten thirty o’clock, the fevered brow was cold, the great
throbbing heart was still, and the pulse less hand could no longer return the
grasp of loved ones and friends. Mr. Lucas was born in Monroe County Oct 10,
1840. He served as First Lieutenant of Company E, 5th GA Regiment, Confederate
Army. He was an ardent and true Mason for more than fifty years. About two years
after the close of the war, he was happily married to Miss Saluda Hicks of
Crawford County, and to this union were born several children. The following
survive, Mrs. M. H. Carnes, L. M. Lucas of Roberta, Ray Lucas of Taylor County,
Miss Lucile Lucas, and Mrs. D. D. Moncrief of Atlanta. The sorely bereaved
children, who have sustained such an irreparable loss have the tender sympathies
of their relatives and friends. The funeral took place from Crowell’s Church,
services being conducted by Rev. Dumas and Rev. Rose of Reynolds, Rev. J. T.
Adams of Butler, after which Masons took charge of the body and concluded the
services at the grave.
