Green, Bernard
ROBERTA - Bernard Green, age 37, died on Saturday, May 3, 2003. Services
will be 3P.M., Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Crawford County Middle School
Auditorium. Interment will be in Golphin Cemetery. The family can be contacted
at 2845 Highway 341 South, Roberta. Bentley Funeral Home, Roberta.
Green, James T.
ROBERTA - James T. Green, 68, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003 in a local
hospital. Services will be held Friday, May 16, 2003 at 2:00PM at Roberta United
Methodist Church. The Reverends Joe Romigh and Bobby Hamlin will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation: Thursday
from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Hart's Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family has
requested that donations be made to Roberta United Methodist Church, Roberta, GA
or to "Jimmy's House", c/o Macon Bibb Fire Department, 1191 First Street, Macon,
GA 31201. Mr. Green was a member of Roberta United Methodist Church and the
Crusaders' Sunday School Class and was a former member of the Administrative
Board. He was a retired Captain of the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department and a
retired farmer. Mr. Green was a former Supervisor of the Ocmulgee Soil and Water
Conservation District, a board member of the Department of Family and Children
Services of Crawford County and a charter member of the Rutland Lions' Club.
Survivors: Wife, Elizabeth Ann Green of Roberta, GA; Children, Thomas M. and
Virginia Green of Fort Valley, Teresa A. and Jack Prue of Roberta, James E. and
Cathy Green of Acworth; Grandchildren, Bright B. Carter, Emily B. Bourne, Ja
Prue, Chet Prue, Madison Green and Kinsey Green; Brothers, Harry J. Green of
Byron, Wilburn Green of Apopka, FL, Allan K. Green of Gray and M. A. Green, Jr.
of Macon; Sisters, Zelma Byrd of Lizella, Myrtie Nipper of Byron and Esther
Bishop of Byron; Mother-in-law, Ora L. Marshall of Lizella. -Hart's Mortuary has
charge of arrangements.
Layson, Ernest Phillip
MUSELLA - Funeral services for Ernest Phillip Layson will be held 11A.M.,
Friday, May 30, 2003 at Musella Baptist Church. Interment will be at Glen Haven
Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum in Macon. Mr. Layson, age 70, died Tuesday, May
27, 2003. -Mr. Layson was born in Putnam County April 26, 193. He had lived in
Crawford County since 1993, moving from Macon. He was a retired plant
superintendent for General Box Company. He was a member of the Musella Baptist
Church and had been a member of the Crawford County Lions Club for ten years.
-Survivors include his wife, Annie Carolyn Mitchell Layson of Musella; two sons,
Tony Layson (Debby) of Musella, GA, and Terry Layson (Beverly) of Macon; a
brother, Roy Layson of Macon; two sisters, Ernestine Layson of Macon and Gail
Rogers of Dublin; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. -In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Crawford County Lions Club, c/o Maryon
Wingo, 767 Oak Grove Church Road, Musella, GA 31066, or Musella Baptist Church,
P.O. Box 56, Musella, GA 31066. -Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 6:00
until 8:00 P.M., at the funeral home. -Goddard Funeral Home of Roberta has
charge of the arrangements.
Sheffield, Norma E.
LIZELLA - Norma E. Sheffield, 71, of 1643 Carl Sutton Road, died Wednesday
at her residence. Graveside services will be held at 11A.M., Saturday, at Glen
Haven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jerry Bisping officiating. The family will meet
friends from 6:00 until 8:00P.M., Friday at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono
Avenue, and may be contacted at 2003 Carl Sutton Road. They suggest that those
who wish may make memorial contributions to "People Helping People." -Mrs.
Sheffield, wife of the late Arter D. Sheffield, was born in Pontiac, Michigan
the daughter of the late Leslie and Irene Agar. She had lived in this area for
forty-six years and was a homemaker. - Survivors include her children, Debra
Kirkwood, Drucy Bruce, Arter Sheffield, Denise Cryer, Jeff Sheffield, Wanda
Hickman and Brenda Thompson; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen
great-grandchildren and a brother, Roger Agar, Lavonia, Michigan. -Visitwww.mem.comto

Shocklee, Versell Leaton
ROBERTA - Funeral services for Versell Leaton Shocklee will be held Saturday
at 11:00A.M. at Roberta United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Roberta
City Cemetery. Mr. Shocklee, age 69, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003. -Mr. Shocklee
was born in Mississippi and had lived in Crawford County for the past 37 years,
moving from Texas. He was a retired millwright and a retired member of the
Carpenter's Millwright Local 144 in Macon. He was a member of the Nazarene
church. -Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Shocklee of Roberta; his father,
Uvell Shocklee of Austin, TX; his son, Bobby Shocklee of Alva, Oklahoma; his
daughters: Jeanne Shocklee of Alva, Oklahoma, Janet Shocklee of Austin, TX and
Penny Collier of Roberta; his brothers: Neal Shocklee of Princeton, TX, David
Shocklee of Garland, TX and John Shocklee of Austin, TX; and several
grandchildren. -In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to American Heart
Association, 363 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204 -Visitation will be held Friday
evening 6:00 until 8:00P.M. at the funeral home. -Goddard Funeral Home of
Roberta has charge of arrangements.
