Thames, George Washington Jr.
& Ida McElroy
This photograph was found in my grandfather's things after he died in
1999. The photograph came from the house of Cawley Clinton HUDSON & his
wife Bertha Mae AULTMAN HUDSON. The photo was identified through a
THAMES relative (Bertha's mother was Alice THAMES AULTMAN) according to
Cheryl
BLOODWORTH AULTMAN. Photograph is reportedly George Washington "Georgie"
THAMES Jr. (1856-?) son of George Washington THAMES Sr. (1821-?) & Sarah
F. "Sallie" HARDISON THAMES (1821-?) and his wife Ida MCELROY THAMES.

(1855-1935) married Ida McElroy (1866-1932). They lived in Ft. Valley,
Peach Co., GA. They never had any children but according to the family raised their nephew, Wallace Thames, who was the son of Matthew Greene Thames and his first wife Lula Ella McGourik (spelling?). Lula died in 1891 leaving Matt Thames with a one year old baby. Matthew married (2) Lola Montese Taylor and they had at least nine children. George Washington Thames Jr. and Matthew Greene Thames are the sons of George Washington Thames and his wife Sarah "Sallie" Frances Hardison (daughter of Jasper Frederick & Margaret "Peggy" Watson Hardison). George Washington Thames was a carpenter and a Primitive Baptist Minister. Both he and Sallie are buried at Little Union Prim Bapt. Church in Crawford Co., GA as are several of their children. George Washington Thames joined this church in 1827 when he was less than 7 years old according to membership list & church minutes. Here is a complete list of George Washington & Sallie Thames' children: W.J.H. Thames 1848-before 1860 Julia Ann Elizabeth "Emma" Thames 1851-1901, m. He married Elizabeth Hunnicutt daughter of William H. Hunnicutt & Sarah Ann Bethena Messer. Elizabeth Hunnicutt is buried next to Benjamin in an unmarked grave. Bobbie Stokes had ordered a marker for her grave but I do not know if it was put in place before his death. Submitted by Betty Mathews Hammer ← |
