I am just beginning to research my family roots. I know my
grandmother lived in Meldrim as a young girl and had relatives as
late as the 1960's but I don't know their last names. My grandmother
was Aniie Ellen BYNUM. She was born 7/22/94 I believe in Meldrim.
Her sister was Lizzie Mae BYNUM and a brother Walter lee BYNUM. I do
not know her father's name but her mother was Minnie Lee BYNUM, born
1874. Annie married N.R. PETERSON from Illinois. Is there any way
you could find out anything about these Bynums. All I remember of
going to Meldrim as a child was a lady called "sister" and a lady
named Julia. I know this isn't much help but anything you can do
would be appreciated.

My ancestor, Lydia Cook, died in Effingham County between 1833
and 1837. I have obtained a copy of Lydia's will which was filed
in Effingham County Probate Court January 2, 1837. She
bequeathed her plantation and slaves to a person named Wm H.
Tucker (SP?). Tucker and a person whose name I cannot read were
named as Executors and were to bury her. Her husband, Henry, had
predeceased her possibly in 1829. I would like to locate Lydia's
grave and Henry's grave if posssible. I have looked at the
cemetery listings on the Effingham County web site without
success. I would like to come to Springfield and attempt to
locate the graves and anything else I can find out about them.
Could you give me any clues where to start? As far as I can
determine Lydia and Henry only had one child - also named Henry.
That child moved to Mississippi and is my great great
grandfather.
