Seeking info on Rev. Wiley F. WILLIS who married Mrs. Susan Sanderford in Effingham County Feb. 1, 1863? Am trying to find out if he is the same Wiley F(erdinand) WILLIS who married Elizabeth E. SPEERS/SPIERS of Screven County. She lived in Oliver, GA on the Screven/Effingham Co. line. They were in Marion County, FL in 1860 with four children; W.W.WILLIS, age 9; Lucy A(nn)WILLIS, age 7; H(arlan) P(age) WILLIS, age 4; and my husband's grand- father E(mmett) S(tyles) WILLIS. On the 1870 census, Elizabeth was back in Screven Co. with the children. The family never knew what happened to Wiley. Did he die in Florida? Were they divorced,(scandal in those days), and if so, is this the same Wiley who then returned to Effingham County and was remarried to Mrs. Susan Sanderford?

I have traced the DuPuis name back to 1808. There were 3 brothers Seth, David, and William that lived in St. Peters Parish of Beaufort. I am now looking prior to 1800. I know that there is a William and James in the early census of both SC and GA. There is a William with a land deed in Gransville. I know Seth is buried in Scotia, SC ,I have visited his grave. I have also seen in someones record that James was William's father, but there were no dates. I guess all the Dupuis along the GA/SC border were related. I just don't know how exactly. I have seen Effingham in several records.

Can anyone offer any insight on the surname BAILL, found in the early Salzburger records? We Royal/Ryall researchers refer you to the following record: MOSES, child of an Englishman, ARTHUR ROYAL and Anna his wife, was born December 13, 1765, and baptised November 7, 1765 in the Jerusalem Church. Sponsers were the parents, also the grandmother ANNA CHRISTINA BAILL." Previous researchers report that Arthurs's wife was Anna Baill/Bailey. making Anna Christina Baill, her mother. Is it possible that this reported grandmother could have actually been the mother of Arthur Royal. His father Charles) died some years earlier and she may well have remarried by this time. Thus also is the possiblity that Arthus's wife Anna was in reality Susannah Cox? Arthur is mentioned in the will of Susannah's father as being his son-in-law. Much to ponder here, I know. But the Baill surname is scarce in the records, so it is difficult to determine who these people actually were. Many years later the name Bailey does appear in the Effingham records, but not enough info to determine any connection. The only other Baill reference refers to a later marriage of a young man named Baille, Christopher, I believe to a female Welsh. After that, the name seems to dissolve.

I have a picture of the Park-View Hotel, which I have been told was located in Springfield. The picture I have appeared on a calendar several years ago, and the caption indicates that this was a Bed and Breakfast and was the home of Mr. John Phillip Jones. In 1909 it became the Park-View Hotel under the ownership and management of Mrs. Walton W. Seckinger and it was later sold for home ownership to the Mock Family. I have been researching the Mocks from Screven County and they have ties in Effingham County as well. I am very much interested in trying to determine who this Mock Family was. Where would you suggest that I start my search and/or do you have any information on this house.

I would like to correspond with anyone who is a descendant of James COPELIN/COPELAND, born approximately 1775 in Bryan/Chatham/Effingham County, GA. He married Dorcas ROBERTS. Their children were Martha Ellen, (Patsy - married Sanuel HENDERSON); Mary Ann, (Polly - married James REEVES); Isabel (married Peter HELVESTON); Isham (married Rebecca WELLS). James was given a land grant on Three Rivers Lake, (MS Territory) for 640 acres in 1797. The area later became Baldwin Co., AL. and then Washington Co., AL. By 1805 the land belonged to the "Heirs of J. COPELIN." I have no proof that James ever physically lived on the property. However, there is proof that Dorcas did live there. So, I suppose it is possibe that he died in GA., and not in AL. Some say Dorcas was part Indian. I have no proof of this either. Who were James's parents? Who were Dorcas's parents? I would like to compare/share information with anyone from this family; however, at this time I have little to offer. I do know that this James COPELIN/COPELAND is the grandfather of James COPELAND, the noted outlaw from the Pascagoula River Valley, Jackson Co., MS, who was executed in Perry Co., MS in 1857. I have seen the COPELIN/COPELAND name spelled a variety of ways - even within the same family.

Preston Everett17 Apr 2001
From information found in excerpts from Everett/Everitt family: a genealogical history published by the Estate of Alvaretta Kenan Register, 1987, it appears that John and his wife, Sarah (Fagan) Everett moved from North Carolina to Effingham County in 1785. Part of their land was later located in Bulloch County. Also, it appears that there was a John Everett who served as Captain in the 1st Company, Effingham County Militia in 1790. Seeking info leading to his predecessors, children, and where they might have journeyed from Effingham County. The above-cited publication leads me to believe that some descendants of John and Sarah moved to Alabama and Florida.
