Researching Levi SMITH, lived in Florida in the 1783 Spanish Census. After Florida he went to Bryan County, Ga. and was also in Effingham. Levi had a son, Elisha who married Polly ANDREWS in Liberty county, Ga. Elisha's third wife was Matilda MOBLEY of Liberty County, Ga. and in the 1880 census of McIntosh was living there. I also know Levi was in S.C. and is listed as a Loyalist.In the Spanish Census he states he is from Pennsylvania.

Nicholas LEWIS was born in Effingham County May 18,1805, later that same year the family moved to Wilkerson County and then to Berrien County. Do you know who his parents were? Nicholas married Piety COOK in 1835. I have information from Nicholas LEWIS forward but I can't find his parents nor any information prior to Nicholas.

I am looking for information on the HELMEY family from Effingham Ga. I have Rebecca Anetta HELMEY was born 7 Oct 1863, she was married to Edward Holmes YATES from Charleston, SC. They were married in Savannah 14 Feb. 1884. Rebecca's parents were Charles E. HELMEY and Sophia L. HORNING. The 1870 census has them listed with 11 children.

Ward's parent's were George William HELMEY and Ellen SHEAROUSE born 6-28-1853, died 4-21-1922, Emma's parent's were George FETZER and Eliza HEIDT. Paul Woodrow HODGES lived in Effingham during the mid to late 1800's. Family "legend" says he divorced his wife and moved to Screven County. He was my great grandfather. I've talked to many folks in that area with no luck. Please help.
