Old Riner Cemetery

Part of the GAGenWeb & USGenWeb Projects

Located north of Meeks, Ga., in Johnson County surveyed by Clyde Hooks in May, 1984

The cemetery is located on land belonging to Morris T. Riner, Jr. The land was once owned by Elder Edward Riner, a son of Amos and Elizabeth Riner. Edward died in 1894 and is buried there is an unmarked grave. The cemetery was active for over fifty years (1864-1916). There are many unmarked graves. The graves closest to the fence are those of black folks. There is a rumor that Indians are also buried here.

Since the time of my survey, a marker has been placed on the paved road going from Meeks to the Kite-Wrightsville Road. Access to the cemetery is supposed to be possible from the marker.
