Company F, 13th Regiment Georgia Infantry was organized in Fayette County in June 1861 with 86 men enrolled.  July 1st it was sent to Griffin, Ga.  The regiment was mustered into service the 8th of July 1861; was provided with tents, etc. Shortly after it was ordered to Decatur, Ga., then to Richmond, Va. where it went into camp.

About the 1st of September it was armed with flint and steel muskets, was ordered to West Virginia, and was attached to Floyd's Brigade.

At the close of the campaign in December the regiment was detached from Floyd's Brigade and ordered to Savannah, Ga.  We were engaged in only two little skirmishes, at Sewell Mountain and Cotton Hill, Va.  We suffered much for want of supplies and cold weather.  We had to destroy all camp equipment in compliance with orders from the General commanding.  The regiment reached Savannah, Ga. the last of December 1861.  It was engaged most of the time in fortifying the city.  No engagement, except one little skirmish on Whitemarsh Island, and the casualties were light.  Some time in May the regiment with other Georgia regiments was formed into a Brigade, commanded by General A. R. Lawton.

The regiment was now supplied with Enfield Rifles and the necessary camp equipage.  On the 7th of June the Brigade was ordered to Virginia.  On reaching Staunton the Brigade was attached to Stonewall Jackson's Corps.  Then commenced the celebrated march to McLellan's Run, (?) near Richmond.  The company's first general engagement was at Cold Harbor June 27, 1862.  We suffered severely in killed and wounded.  At Malvern Hill on July 2, 1862, the loss was considerable.

From Richmond the company went to Cedar Mountain, then to the Rappahannock River, where it engaged in several skirmishes. Then the memorable march to Bristol Station, which culminated in the second Battle of Manassas and Fairfax Court House.  After these battles the army moved into Maryland and captured Harper's Ferry.  From Harper's Ferry to Sharpsburg, Md. the company suffered terribly.  We went into the fight the 17th of September with twenty men, and every one was killed or wounded except two.

After the battle of Sharpsburg the army moved to near Winchester, Va., where it remained until November or December.  From there it moved to Fredericksburg, Va., and near Hamilton's Crossing.  The company took an active part in the great battle of Fredericksburg Dec. 13, 1862. Some time in March 1863 General J. B. Gordon took command of the Brigade.

On May 3, 1863 the battle of Chancellorsville was fought.  From Fredericksburg Ewell's Corps went to Winchester.  There the company performed its part in the capture of that city.  The army then marched into Maryland and Pennsylvania.  In the bloody battle of Gettysburg the company lost many men, killed and wounded.  After moving back into Virginia the army rested awhile at Orange Court House. From that time on the army was marching and skirmishing with the enemy until it went into winter quarters near Orange Court House.

In February, 1864, the company was engaged in the fight at Morton's Ford, Va.  On May 5, 1864, the campaign opened with the battles of the Wilderness.  Here the company did some hard fighting.  On the morning of the 6th day of May it took an active part in forcing the enemy from their position.  After this battle General C. A. Evans was promoted and took command of the Brigade, in place of General Gordon, who had just been promoted.  The army moved from the Wilderness to Spotsylvania, Va.  Here the company was almost constantly engaged in severe battles.  At Cold Harbor the company was often in the skirmish line.  It was also engaged in the 2d battle of Cold Harbor in June 1864.

After this battle the corps to which the company belonged was detached and ordered to Lynchburg to force General Hunter back down the valley.

The company was in the hard fought battles of the celebrated valley campaign.  At no period of the war did the company suffer so severely in loss of men killed and wounded, particularly at Winchester and Fisher's Hill.  In March 1865 the company participated in the celebrated charge by night on Harry's Hill and lost several men.  In the retreat from Petersburg to Appomattox, Va. it was often engaged until the surrender on the 9th of April, 1865.

It is impossible at this late date to give the number of battles and skirmishes in which the company was engaged.  A glance at the rolls of the company will show that its loss was great.  Perhaps no company in the Brigade suffered more.
