Doing research on Hewatt's. Rachel Elizabeth BENNETT died in Subligna, GA.
Her husband, Willis Coleman Hewatt b 8 Mar 1842 in NC, married 5 Dec 1865
and d 23 Apr 1902 in West Armuchee Valley. There son, my ancestor, Joseph
Marsh Hewatt was born 3 Apr 1873 in Greenbush, GA. Joseph Marsh Hewatt and
his brother Richard, were involved in bootlegging around the turn of the
century. Joseph took all the blame, clearing Richard, then left Georgia for
the panhandle of Oklahoma, were he Homestead 160 acres. Joseph's other two
brothers, one a doctor in the Armuchee Valley, the other thinking he had
killed a negro, fled Georgia for North Texas South Oklahoma area. Willis
was a known KKK member. Of course much of these details are family folklore,
so I'm trying to make a definite link between Joseph Marsh and Willis Coleman
HEWATT.

POST, William L. [b. 1795±] and Elizabeth CHAPMAN [b.1805±] were m. in Floyd Co. ca. 1938.
A William POST and Elizabeth w/ 6 children were in NW Arkansas in 1850 and 1860 census.
Eliz. was absent in 1860 [died??] & they lived near a MARTIN POST. Other POSTs marrying
in Floyd Co. GA were Samuel? Children were John, Joseph, Pleasant, Caroline, Alzira [sp?],
and JOHN B. all born in GA except eldest child, parents given as born in SC. Oldest John
was 6 at time of marriage??? suggesting William may have been widower. Reinforced by having
2 Johns in family. 5 of the POSTS were reported killed by Bushwhackers during the Civil War
near Logan Community in Benton Co., AR. I am seeking anyone who may have info on this
family. Were these the same who married in Floyd Co. as those who died in AR. Were they
related to Samuel or Martin? Did any survive? Eldest would have been 27 at start of CW.
Did he fight? Someone carved POST in 5 stones and erected sometime after Civil War.
Those stones were removed by landowner but well remembered by some still alive. Who carved
their stones if no family survived?

I am seeking information on WILLIAM MORRIS, JR, wife MARGARET E BOWIE MORRIS. They are on
1860 Floyd county Census and Margaret is on 1870 Census as head of household. Who was WILLIAM
MORRIS JR father? Is the William Morris Sr of Cobb Co ("the First Hundred years - Cobb County
Ga, P.68) the father of this William Jr.? I suspect he is because this William Morris Sr had a
son named "Saxton". My William Morris Jr. named one of his sons "Sexton". I have made two
trips to Rome and one to Atlanta Archives (from Oklahoma) searching for answer to this puzzle!
Thanks for any help

I would like to know the relationship between the Yarbrough family, Henry Hicks family and Eli
Hardin family. I would like to correspond with any descendants of these families, as well as
Cadell and Liddel families, who were with my Hicks family in Little Sand Valley. Can anyone
tell me if William H. Hardin is the nephew or brother of my ggg grandmother, Mary Holly Barton
Hicks. Was she the daughter of John Barton and Polly/Patsy Hardin, who was the daughter of
Valentine Hardin and Margaret Castleberry? Is this the reason that Eli Hardin was the
Administrator of the estate of Henry W. Hicks? Also, could someone tell me the relationship of
Henry W. Hicks and the Vann family. He was killed in an accident on the Vann farm in 1860. He
was digging a well and an explosive blew up and a rock lodged in his check near his heart and
he lived for only a few days.

I am researching HARPER and MCDONALD lines in Rome. I know my g-gfather, Charles Mallory HARPER
was born in Rome in 1839 and died there in 1909. My g-g mother, Georgia MCDONALD, died in Rome
in 1905 at age 59. Both are buried in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. I am looking for their antecedents.
My grandfather, Donald HARPER, was born around 1870s. He went to college in Macon, then moved to

I am researching my gg-grandfather and gg-grandmother, Charles M. and Georgia MCDONALD HARPER.
He was born in Rome, Ga. in 1839 where he died in 1909. Georgia was born elsewhere, I believe,
and died in Rome in 1905. Both are buried in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. I am trying to research
HARPER line. Charles' middle name, I believe, was MALLORY, which may be a family name, possibly
his mother's maiden name. One of their children was my grandfather, Donald HARPER, who spent
most of his life in NY and in France. Another family surname is THORNTON.

I'm searching for my mother DOROTHY MAI MORRELL, nee RAPER, who I haven't seen since I was 5
years old. Her birth certificate shows her father's name as Z(?) O.H Raper, with his place of
birth being Rome, Georgia. My mother was born in Chattanooga, Tn in 1930. Her Birth Certificate
shows her father's age as 41 in 1930. He married Evelyn Thomas of Chattanooga, Tn. His
occupation was lineman. I thought perhaps I might have relatives in the Rome, Floyd County,
Georgia area who may have some information about my family. My mother and father, Charles
Morrell were married in Lakeview, Ga and divorced in Wichita Falls, Tx in 1952. If my RAPER
grandparents remained in the area, and are buried there, maybe an obituary is available with
some information. My name is Maria and a friend, Janice, is sending this query for me. If you
could put me in touch with someone who may be able to help me, I'd be forever grateful!

I am on a dead-end search for the family of my grandmother, Minnie F. Smith. She was born in
Alabama in May 1863. Her father was a full blood Cherokee Indian but her mother was white from
GA. This is the story as I have been able to piece it togather. Her father * Smith was a
Riverboat owner and Captain. The family lived on the boat so they were never counted in any
census. When the boat was sunk by the Yankees in the early days of the Civil War, Capt Smith
brought his wife back to his family home in Ala where Minnie was born. After the war they went
back to the river and Ark. The first documentation that I can find is Minnie's marriage to James
Solonia Mack in 1881 in St Francis Co. Ark. I do not know her fathers first name or her mothers
name but I do have a clue in the name of Minnies Children. Her first son is named for her father
in Law, her second son is named for his father and her third son is named Teggert or Taggert. I
betting that this was her mothers maiden name. She was probably from a county that bordered Ala
that was from the old Cherokee lands. Do you have any marriage records of 1850's that would show
*Taggert to *Smith? This might give me the breakthrough that I need. Thank you.
