Gartrell Dead The Veteran Yields to the Inevitable Conqueror Atlanta, April 9 – Gen. Lucius J. Gartrell is dead. His death was so calm and so placid that those who watched by his bedside scarcely knew when life departed. The illness of Gen. Gartrell has been a long and painful struggle for life. Many days ago he was stricken down with an abscess. His splendid physique and iron constitution enabled him to triumph for a while, but at length the resources of his vital energies were exhausted and then he began to fail. Gen. Gartrell was a member of the Fulton County Confederate Veterans Association, and was a member of the Masonic fraternity. In fact he was one of those who took the initiatory steps in establishing Freemasonry in Atlanta. The time of the funeral exercises was set for 11 o’clock Thursday morning.
