Nathan Marsh Family History

GEN 1.

Nathan Marsh was born c. 1760, and died in Warren County in 1841, now Glascock County, Ga.   Nathan was a Revolutionary War Soldier and was granted 283 ½ acres of land by Col. Elijah Clark in Washington/Greene Co GA.

He was listed on the 1790 Wilkes Co. Tax Digest.  On May 15, 1795, he purchased land owned by Joseph May on Beechtree Creek near Gibson in Warren Co.   In 1805 he was listed in Trant's District, and in 1818, in the Harris District.   He was married to Elizabeth (last name unknown.)

Known children were John, Samuel, Robert, Nathan, Jr., and Sarah Elizabeth.  Other possible children (ref LDS) were Parthenia, Bethany and William.

The parents and birthplaces of Nathan Marsh and Elizabeth are not known.

GEN 2.

John Marsh born 1792 married Abigail (?).   Children were John A. born 1828, and married Elizabeth Boyd, daughter of John Boyd of Warren Co, Mar 23, 1847.   Thomas born 1830, Charity born 1831, Marcus born 1834,

Mary Elizabeth born 1836, Nathan F. born 1840, and James J. born 1844.

Samuel Marsh was born 1796 and died before 1860.   He married Mason Newsome, born 1816, died c. 1870, daughter of Figures Newsome, in Warren County Dec 14, 1830.  Children of Samuel and Mason are Elizabeth "Betsy", Rhoda Frances, Jane, Samuel Thomas, Mary E., James "Jim", Nancy and Malissa "Missy" Marsh.

Robert Marsh was born in 1804 in Warren Co and died in Decatur County, Ga.  He married Nancy Kent, daughter of Thomas Kent of Warren Co Dec 2, 1829. Children were John R., Richard, Elizabeth, Lucy, Rhoda Angeline "Angie", J.S.E., James Sterling and Susan Marsh.

Elizabeth Marsh born c. 1807 married William T McDonald in Warren Co., on Feb 21, 1826.

Children were William T. II "Lem", George W., Robert, Elizabeth, Amanda, Nancy, Thomas and Rebecca McDonald.

Nathan Marsh, Jr. born 1808, died c. 1863 married Emeline Newsome born 1822, died c 1852, daughter of Figures Newsome in Warren Co. Jan 30, 1848. Children were Nancy Elizabeth, William John, Nathan III, and Thomas Marsh.

William Marsh was born in 1810. He married Sarah ?  He was wounded at Gettysburg PA, July 3, 1863 and died of small pox.   He served in the 48th Reg. Ga. Vol. "Gibson Guards".

Children were Martha E., William F (P?), Perry, John, and Jack Marsh.

Partheny "Bethany" Marsh married Andrew McDonald Dec 23, 1822.
Parthenia Marsh, born c 1798, married George Hilson in Warren County, Dec 31, 1818.

Gen. 3

Elizabeth "Betsy" Marsh, daughter of Samuel, was born in 1831, she married James W Moat July 6, 1851. Known children are Rhoda Ann Moat Harrell and Adeline Moat.

Rhonda Frances Marsh, daughter of Samuel, was born Apr 4, 1834. She married George W Black on Jan 23, 1853. Known children are Samuel Thomas, Juda Ann, Elizabeth, Lucy J.(Newsome), Catherine (Howell), Rhoda Ann (Holtzclaw) and George W. Black Jr.

Jane Marsh, daughter of Samuel, was born in 1836.

Samuel Thomas Marsh, son of Samuel, was born in 1838. He married Jane "Jincy" Williford June 6, 1858.

Mary E Marsh, daughter of Samuel, was born in 1842 and married John Marsh Jan 29, 1864.

James "Jim" Marsh, son of Samuel, was born Mar 1845 and died Mar 13, 1913 at his home near Edgehill.   He married Celia "Cealy" Newsome, dau of Seaborn & Elizabeth Harrell Newsome Oct 22, 1865. Cealy was born Jan 16, 1850 and died at age 91 on Feb 3, 1941.  They are buried at Mt Zion Church Cemetery.

Nancy Marsh was born in 1850.

Malissa "Missy" Marsh was born in 1852. She married (1)George Williford (2)William Henry Black.

Gen. 4

Seaborn Marsh, son of Jim and Cealy Marsh, was born Jan 1875 and died about 1926.   He married Mattie Lamb, daughter of Eli Holland and Susan Kelly Lamb, Nov 20, 1892.  They are buried at Mt Zion Church Cemetery.

Children are Minnie (Usry), Tossie (Kitchens), Lizzie (Snider), Ardwood "Artie", Ruby (Wilcher), William Eather, Gordon Thomas, and Elton Marsh.

Celia A. Marsh, daughter of Jim and Cealy was born Nov 16, 1876 and died Nov 9, 1912.  She married James G Reese, born Nov 14, 1873 and died Nov 11, 1962.   Children are Georgina, Callie, Lucille, Zelma and James Edward "Jim Ed" Reese.

William Luther Marsh, son of Jim and Cealy was born Nov 1879 and died in 1920. He married Hattie Lamb, daughter of Eli Holland and Susan K. Lamb.  They are buried at Mt Zion Church Cemetery. Children are Fronie Bell (Black), Arvell, Garvin, Hattie Mae, Roy L., Willie, Geo. Thomas, and Ray.

Minnie Marsh, daughter of Jim and Cealy, was born 1880. She married Leon Usry.

Rhoda Newsome Marsh, daughter of Jim and Cealy, was born May 3, 1882 and died July 22, 1934. She married Lawrence Lamb in 1897.  Children are James Elbert, Eli A., Hattie Cornelia (Williams), Fronie Bell, Celia Mae (Reese), Lawrence Jr., Susie Lucille, Norah Alma (Kitchens), And George Paul Lamb.

Mattie Marsh, dau of Jim and Cealy Marsh, was born Nov 1885 and died in 1963.   She married Seth W "Bud" Williams on Aug 16, 1903.

Tom W Marsh, son of Jim and Cealy Marsh, was born Feb 7, 1894 and died Jul 1982.  He married Norcis Dawson in 1911. Children are Thomas, Marie (Lamb), Rebecca, and Ralph W. Marsh.

Jane Marsh daughter of Jim and Cealy Marsh was born July 30, 1869, and died March 6, 1954.  She married George W. Kelley on December 11, 1887 in Glascock Co., GA.   They are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery.  They had children: James T. Kelley born September 1889, and Ina C. Kelley born September 1891.
