Welcome
to Glynn County, GAGenWeb. This is a new site and in need of help
from the researchers of Glynn county. If you have any information
that you are willing to share with others, I will gladly post it
on this site.
The GAGenweb project is dedicated to providing a location where researchers may freely share their family history information and history of the County.
Glynn County Georgia is one of the original counties. It was created in 1777 from St David and St. Patrick Parishes. Glynn county acquired the Sea Islands from Liberty County in 1789. Wayne County was created from Glynn in 1805. Glynn traded land with Wayne County in 1805, 1820, 1822, 1858, 1860 and took land from Camden County in 1858.
Crown
land grants from the Colonial era still exist. Records for the county
begin in 1787. The county has deeds, dating from 1787, probate records
from 1790 and court records from 1810. Marriage records start in
1810. Birth and death records were not kept on a state wide basis
before the 1919 Georgia State Law required the tracking of births
and deaths. Actual birth records begin 1928 and death records begin
in 1922.
The Glynn County Seat is located in Brunswick. The coastal town of Brunswick is the only incorporated community in the County. Un-incorporated communities include: Saint Simmons, Sea Island. Jekyll Island, Thalmann, Broadfield, New Hope and Evelyn.
