BREMEN; The area had formerly been called Kramer and Wolf Pen. The town of Kramer was incorporated on September 5, 1883, and given the name Bremen.  It was originally named for a German immigrant that owned a local vineyard but the name was changed at Kramer's request to honor the city if Bremen, Germany.  Bremen is the largest town in Haralson County.  Bremen is home of the only hospital in Haralson County. BUDAPEST; is an area east of Tallapoosa off Hwy. 78 and refers to the area where about 200 Hungarian families settled in 1893 to establish a wine growing industry.  The passage of the Georgia Prohibition Act of 1907 caused this industry to fail.  Some families remained in Haralson Co., but most left the area. The Budapest Cemetery was the burial grounds of the Hungarian Colony.

BUNCOMBE; is a community about three miles South of Tallapoosa on present day Hwy. 100.  Best known as the area of the gold mine once owned by William Owens. The Dahlonega gold vein runs through the region and attracted the first non-Indians to the area during the Georgia gold rush

DRAKETOWN; is located northeast of Buchanan and was originally located in Paulding County. It was a post office between 1854 and 1866, also known as Long Leaf. Supposedly named Draketown by miners migrating from the copper mines in Ducktown, TN.

FELTON; Chartered in 1890 Felton was probably a lumber town.  The worst tornado in the history of Haralson Co. struck Felton in 1909.

STEDMAN; originally surveyed as a 40 acre village by Kaiser Farm and Vinyard Company.  A number of homes were built in the area however, none of the streets on the original survey were ever built.  Some grape vines were planted.  Most of the homes built were two story with steep roofs.  One home was built by Henry Boyer from Iowa. It was originally a two store house but later owners had the second story removed.  He purchased the lot(s) in 1896 but was not on the 1900 census.  The house shown below was once a post office

TALLAPOOSA; Once called "Possum Snout" Incorporated in 1860 Tallapoosa celebrated it's 150 anniversary in 2010.  Sanborn Fire Ins. Map of 1888 shows the city well developed.  Tallapoosa was named for the river that runs through "Haralson county".  Tallapoosa is the Indian word meaning "Golden Water." It  is also known for having opened the first free school in Georgia in 1889.  During the boom period Tallapoosa was advertised nationally and throughout Canada.  Advertising brochures were mailed telling of the healthful climate and opportunity to make money.  During this period the "Lithia Springs Hotel" was built and claimed to be the largest wooden structure in the South.

WACO; located in southern Haralson County

WOLF PEN; Intrigued by this name I found an online book about the name Wolf Pen. The book is entitled "Place Names of Georgia" and states;that at one time wolves were plentiful in Georgia.  The Indians did not bother them but when the white men came wolf pens, and traps were set;to kill the wolves.
