Wm. D. Agan, 84, Passes to Beyond. Mr. William D. Agan, age 84 years, passed away at his home a few miles
east of Buchanan on Dec. 29th, his death being attributed to infirmities of old age.

Mr. Agan was born in Gordon county on March 4th, 1851, but had been a resident of this county for a number of years.  He is survived by
several children and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held over the remains at Union Hill on the following day.

Funeral Sunday For Marion A. Barrow.
Mr. Marion A. Barrow, 58, died in a hospital early last Friday morning after an illness of several months. 

Funeral services were held from the Antioch Baptist church Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, with Rev. R. W. Johnson officiating, assisted by
Rev. P.P. Johnson and Rev. R. L. Bates.

A large host of friends and relatives gathered to pay their last tribute of respect.  Interment was in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. M. A. Barrow, of Temple, two daughters, Mr. O. H. King and Mrs. J. B. Moore, of Waco; three sisters, Mrs. W. D.
McKibben, of Hapeville; Mrs. D. E. Phillips and Mrs. W. T. Robinson, of Waco; six brothers, Mr. R. O. Barrow, of Zebulon; Mr. J. T. Barrow, of
Cave Springs; Mr. L. O. Barow, Mr. T. M. Barrow, and Mr. E.V. Barrow of Atlanta; and Rev. H.S. Barrow of Waco.

The Miller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS LILLIE BOLDEN

Mrs. Lillie Ann Bolden of Wesley Camp Road, Buchanan, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1993, in a local hospital.  She was born in

Haralson County, Oct. 8, 1909, daughter of the late Jacob Breckinridge Smith and Eliza Ellen Crawford Smith.  Mrs. Bolden was a retired

 employee of the Arrow Co., where she worked for approximately 28 years, and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Buchanan.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty Sumlin and Bobbie Sue Worley, both of Buchanan, and Joyce Davis of Tallapoosa; a son,

Danny Bolden of Newnan; two sisters, Ruby Davis and Irene Monroe, both of Bremen; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. 

Mrs. Bolden was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Hugh Bolden, in 1964; also a son and two daughters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Buddy Gentry

officiating, assisted by the Rev. Rodney Wilburn.  Music was furnished by the Rev. Buddy Gentry and Harold Blackmon, accompanied

by Pat Blackmon.  Bobby Williams, Junior Robinson, Guy Redding Jr., Chalmus Weatherby, Junior White and Ray White served as

pallbearers.  Burial was in Buchanan City Cemetery with Hightower Funeral Home of Bremen in charge of arrangements.

HELEN ELIZABETH (ESTAVANKO) BROOKS

Helen Elizabeth (Estanvanko) Brooks passedSlovak settlement of Tokai in Haralson County on July 23, 1923
to the late Adam and Mary (Majda) Estavanko.  She was married on August 10, 1941 to
her husband Thomas Riley Brooks who preceded her in death on September 23, 2008.

She was a resident of Hilltop Dr in Bremen for many years until moving to Buchanan a few years ago.  She was
employed by the Arrow Shirt Company in Bremen (Shirt Shop) until her retirement and was a charter member of
Our Lady of Perpetual Catholic Church in Carrollton.

She is survived by her Son and daughter-in-law Larry S. and Andrea (Bell) Brooks of Powder Springs, GA and
by her daughter and son-in-law Ann brooks and B. Carroll Robinson of Bremen; 3 grandchildren and several
gr-grandchildren and by her sister Mary A. Shadrix of Bremen.

She was preceded in death by half brothers Joseph S. Estavanko, Stephen J. Estavanko, Joseph M. Estavanko
and by half-sisters Mrs. Annie Maddox, Mrs. Pauline Rado, Margaret Estavanko and Mrs. Catherine "Kate" Flatt.

Funeral services will be held in the Memorial Chapel of Hightower Funeral Home on july 9, 2009 at 11:00am by
Deacon Gary Atkinson.  Internment will follow in the Estavanko Cemetery on Old Ridgeway Road in Bremen.

THOMAS RILEY BROOKS

Thomas Riley Brooks, age 88, of Buchanan passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. 
Mr. Brooks had been a resident of Hilltop dr in Bremen for many years. He was born in Calhoun County, Alabama on August 26,

1920 to the  late Willard Frank and Ada (DeVore) Brooks and married the former Helen Elizabeth Estavanko on August 10, 1941.

Mr. Brooks was employed by Lockheed and later as a heavy equipment operator for Harlason County until his
retirement.  He was a veteran of the U S Army and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Catholic Church in Carrollton.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Helen E. Brooks of Buchanan; son and daughter-in-law Larry S. and Andrea (Bell) Brooks
of Powder Springs, Georgia and daughter and son-in-law Ann and B. Carroll Robinson of Bremen as well as 3 grandchildren and
several gr-grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Pearl Parish of Winston, GA.

He was preceded in death by Willard F. Brooks Jr, Marvin Brooks and Stanley Brooks and by sisters Josie Swafford, Clyde Swafford
and Irene Abercrombie and by a half-brother Earnest Pritchard.

Services will be conducted Thursday, September 25, 2008 in the Memorial Chapel at Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen with burial
following in the Estavanko Cemetery located on Old Ridgeway Road in Bremen.

Mrs. HARRIET BUSH

Mrs. Harriet Bush: A Pioneer Citizen Paid Final Tribute 

     Mrs. Harriet E. Bush, 94 years old, died at her home in the Bush Mill Community last Tuesday night following an illness of several weeks.

 She was a pioneer citizen of Haralson County and had resided on the same place for 72 years and in the same house for the past 64 years. 

     Mrs. Bush was a woman loved by all who knew her and she had a wide acquaintance and many called her friend and sought her advice and

 council. On last October 15^th Mrs. Bush celebrated her 93^rd birthday and was surrounded by her children and a number of relatives and friends.

 Her death will occasion universal sorrow among those who knew and loved her. Funeral Services were conducted at the Waco Baptist church last Wednesday by Rev. W. O. Cook and burial was in the Waco Cemetery. Hoyt Kenney was in charge.  Surviving the deceased were Mrs. J. H. Mitchell of Fosterville, TN, Mrs. T.C. Rabun of Bremen, W.C. Bush of Buchanan, and Mrs. M.T. Jarrel of Bremen. Funerals
W. D. Crawford, 84, father of Mrs. J. B. Smith, died early Tuesday morning at his daughter's home at 3:30 o'clock, from infirmities
incident to his age.  For the past three years he has made his home here with his daughter and the past three months he has been confined to his
bed but he never complained and died peacefully like he lived.  He was a native of Polk County and had lived a long and useful life and his
friends will read with sorrow of his passing.  He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. B. Smith of Bremen and Mrs. Roda Gunter of Talladega,
Ala.  Funeral was held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Smith home with Rev. G. L. Bell conducting the funeral. Burial was in the Smith
private cemetery.

Obituary of Mr. C. C. Eaves Passes Away at Early Hour Monday Morning

Mr. C. C. Eaves, one of the best known and most popular citizens of the county died at his home, a few miles out from this place Monday morning

 at an early hour after a short illness, aged 79 years. The deceased was a loyal and consistent member of the Primitive Baptist Church and lived

up to the teachings of the Golden Rule, and the announcement of the death of this noble citizen will carry a pang of genuine sorrow to the hearts

of many friends and acquaintances throughout all Haralson County. For there are few men more widely know or held in higher esteem that "Uncle

Tobe Eaves". He was an honorable, upright gentleman, generous, kindhearted and true to his friends and convictions and he truly lived a life

worthy to emulate. The deceased leaves a devoted wife and nine children; J. C. Eaves, Judge W. T. Eaves, Dr. B.F. Eaves, D. E. Eaves, Mrs.

W.A. Philpot, J. L. Eaves, B. L. Eaves, R. J. Eaves and Mrs. Emory Morgan to mourn his passing. Interment Tuesday in the burying ground

 at Pineywoods Church, Rev. W. H. Hamrick conducting the funeral services. Peace to his noble ashes.

MRS C C EAVES

Haralson County Tribune Thursday, April 8, 1937

Mrs. C C Eaves, age 91, passed quietly away at the home of her daughter, Mrs W E Morgan, 2 1/2 miles southeast of Buchanan last Friday

morning at 6:45 oclock. Mrs Eaves had been in declining health for the past several years, and she bore her suffering with rare Christian fortitude.

For several weeks prior to her death her condition was considered serious and all that loving hands and medical skill was done for her.  She was

 the widow of the late C C Eaves, one of Haralson county's pioneer citizens, who passed away over twenty years ago. Through her kindly

disposition and her willingness to help the less fortunate, she had won hundreds of warm friends.

Funeral services were held over the remains at Pineywoods Primitive Baptist Church Saturday morning, being attended by a large crowd of sorrowing

relatives and friends. Rev J S Edwards of Taylorsville paid a glowing tribute to her memory.  Beside her daughter, Mrs W E Morgan, she is survived

 by five sons: Dr B F Eaves of Draketown, W T Eaves of Tallapoosa, J L Eaves of Buchanan, Bailey Eaves of near Bremen, and J C Eaves,

of near Buchanan.

        Chesley William Eaves of East Point, GA died September 28, 1985 at South Fulton Hospital in Eaves Point, GA. He was born in Draketown,

Haralson County, Georgia to the late James Grant and Lila Frances Ford Eaves.

Services will be held at Piney Woods Primitive Baptist Church in Buchanan, Haralson County, Georgia with the Rev. Milton Whitlock and the

 Rev. Lawrence Shedd officiating.  Interment in the Piney Woods Cemetery will follow.

Surviving are brothers and sisters Russell Eaves, Lewis Eaves and Joseph B Eaves of Riverdale, GA. John W Eaves of College Park and

Thomas Eaves of Newnan, Mrs. Berteen Allgary of Jacksonville, FL, Miss Bertie Mae Eaves of Riverdale, GA, Mrs. Nancy Adams of Stockbridge,

Pioneer Citizen Passes Away - Haralson County Tribune Nov. 10, 1911
Graves Eaves Succumbs After a Short Illness Of Fever

Mr. Graves Eaves, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Haralson County, died at his home near Draketown on Thursday (November 2)

 of last week, after an illness of only a few days of fever. The deceased was 78 years of age at the time of his death. He leaves a devoted wife,

four children and hundreds of relatives and friends to mourn his passing away. He had been a resident of this county for many years and was always

an active and energetic man, both mentally and physically, giving liberally of his time, labor and sympathy in homes of sickness and death. In religion,

 he early developed the habit of weighing things in the balances of reasons, discarding that which did not harmonize with the Creator's plan as he

saw God's laws in the big book of Nature. He believed in doing good for the sake of humanity and not in the fear of anger and vengeance of a

higher power. He was laid to rest Friday afternoon in the burying grounds at Pineywoods Church, with Masonic Honors.

ADAM ESTAVANKO

Mr Adam Estavanko, age 65, passed away at his residence in the "Nitra" community of Haralson County in February 1940. 

Mr Estavanko was born on December 25, 1874 in Kosice, Slovakia, a son of Jacob and Mary (Czimar) Estavanko.  He came to America in the

late 1880's.  He was a coal miner for many years and the past 25 years was a prominent farmer in the Nitra community. He and his family made

 their home in the coal mining area of Luczerne County, Pennsylvania.  He arrived in Haralson County with his family in 1896, settling into

the Slovak settlement of "Nitra". Mr Estavanko returned to Hazlebrook, Pennsylvania in 1898 and returned to Harlason County in November

 1915. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mrs Mary (Majda) Estavanko and by children:  Mr Joseph S. Estavanko of Bremen, Miss Helen Estavanko

 of the home, Miss Mary Estavanko and Mrs Albert (Pauline) Rado of Lorain, Ohio; Mrs Noah (Annie) Maddox of Atlanta; Mrs Charles (Kate) Hutchings,

 Mr Steve Estavanko and Mr Joseph M. Estavanko all of Detroit, Michigan. He was preceded in death by 1^st wife, Maria (Grega) Estavanko in July

 1915 and by children Maria and Michael Estavanko in 1905, John Estavanko in October 1915 and Margaret Estavanko in 1918 and by his brother

 Joseph Estavanko in 1909.  Funeral services were conducted at the home with burial following in the Estavanko Cemetery at "Nitra".

 ALMA BEATRICE (ADAMS) ESTAVANKO

Mrs Alma Estavanko, age 69, passed away at the Westland Convalescent Center in Westland, Michigan in May 1977.  She had suffered

 with cancer. Mrs Estavanko made her home at 12128 Auburn Ave in Detroit prior to her illness last year. She was born in Logansport, Indiana

on October 21, 1907 and was married to Joseph M. Estavanko and he proceeded her in death in May of 1970. She is survived by a son and

 daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Robert Cecil (Vida) Cook of Westland and a granddaughter, Miss Robin Cecilia Cook and by a sister Virginia. 

Visitation and funeral services were held in both Detroit and in Logansport, Indiana where burial followed.

 DANNY ANDREW ESTVANKO

Mr Danny A. Estvanko, age 50, of Bremen passed away at his home on July 3, 1995, after suffering a massive heart attack. 

He was born on October 23, 1945 to Frank Andrew and Naomi Mae (Bagwell) Estvanko. 

He is survived by his mother, Mrs Naomi Mae Estvanko; his sister Mrs Donald (Dyan) Robinson of Carrollton and by brothers, Mr Ricky

Estvanko and Mr Gary Estvanko of Bremen and Mr Larry Estvanko of Villa Rica. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Mr Frank A. Estvanko on September 14, 1990. 

Visitation was held at the Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen with burial following in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Bremen.       

 EULA (TIMAN) ESTVANKO

Mrs Eula Estavanko, age 83, passed away on July 29, 1955.  She was born on September 4, 1871 in Kezmarok, Slovakia. 

After arriving from Europe she made her home in Pennsylvania before migrating to the Slovak community of Nitra in Haralson County in the

mid 1890's.  she was a member of the Catholic Church. She was married to Paul Estvanko and he preceded her in death on August 25, 1932. 

Survivors include her sons Mr John Estvanko of Columbus, Ohio; Mr Paul Estvanko Jr of Cleveland, Ohio and Mr. Frank Estvanko of Atlanta

and by a sister Mrs Adam (Mary) Estavanko of Bremen. She was preceded in death by a son, Mr Joseph L. "Little Joe" Estvanko in 1949.   

Services were conducted by Hightower funeral Home in Bremen with burial following in the Estavanko Cemetery at Nitra.

   FRANK ANDREW ESTVANKO

Mr Frank A. Estvanko, age 77, of Bremen, passed away at Tanner Memorial Hospital in Carrollton on September 14, 1990 after suffering a heart

attack at his home the previous day. Mr Estvanko was born on March 13, 1913 to Paul and Eula (Timan) Estvanko in the "Nitra" community

of Haralson County.   He was employed in many fields before retiring from Southwire - Wire Division, in Carrollton several years ago. 

Mr Estvanko was married to the former Naomi Mae Bagwell, and she survives him. He is also survived by children, Mrs Donald (Dyan) Robinson

of Carrollton; Mr Danny A. Estvanko, Mr Ricky A. Estvanko and Mr Gary Estvanko all of Bremen and Mr Larry Estvanko of Villa Rica. 

He was preceded in death by his brothers John Estvanko in 1980, Paul Estvanko Jr. in 1965 and Mr Joseph L. "Little Joe" Estvanko. 

Visitation was held at Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen with services being conducted at First Baptist Church in Bremen with internment

following at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Bremen.

MRS GIZELLA (HOVENITZ) ESTVANKO:

Mrs Gizella Estvanko, age 75, passed away on December 13, 1968 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born in Czechoslovakia on May 7,

1893 and had been a resident of Cleveland for many years.  She was married to Paul Estvanko Jr and he preceded her in death on

 April 29, 1965. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs Virginia Perney and sons, Mr Paul Estvanko III, Mr Fred Estvanko, Mr Elmer Estvanko

and Mr Richard Estvanko.  She was preceded in death by a daughter Ann Marie Estvanko. 

Services and burial took place in Cleveland, Ohio

JACOB ESTAVANKO

Mr Jacob Estavanko of the "Nitra" community of Haralson County passed away March 2, 1923.  Mr Estavanko was 77 at the time of his death

 and was a prominent and respected figure within the Slovak community of Nitra. He made his living as a Farmer and Trader.  He was a member

of the Catholic Church. He was born on May 15, 1845 in Kocise, Slovakia and arrived in the country with his family in the late 1880's.  He had

made his home in Haralson County since 1896.  Survivors include his wife Mary (Czimar) Estavanko; son Mr. Adam Estavanko and a brother

 Mr. Paul Estvanko all of Nitra.   He was preceded in death by a son, Mr Joseph Estavanko in 1909. Funeral services were conducted in the

home with burial following in the Estavanko Cemetery at Nitra.

JOHN ESTAVANKO

John Estavanko, age 3 months, of Hazelbrook, Pennsylvania passed away October of 1915 due to complications from an early birth.   

Born on July 3, 1915 he was the son of Adam Estavanko and the late Maria (Grega) Estavanko who passed away shortly after his birth on

July 3, 1915. He is survived by his father and siblings, Annie, Pauline, Margaret, Joseph and Steve Estavanko all of Hazelbrook; his maternal

 grandmother Mrs Annie Grega of Hazelbrook and paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Jacob Estavanko of the "Nitra" community in Haralson

County. Services were conducted in the home with burial following at St John Nepomucene Slovak Cemetery in Freeland, Pennsylvania.

Joseph "J.C." Estavanko age 5 of the Nitra community, passed away from complications of diphtheria on December 6, 1930. 

He was born April 23, 1925, the son of Joseph S. & Lucy Cappie (nee Chambers) Estavanko and they survive. Services were conducted with

burial following in the Bethel Church Cemetery in Bremen

Mr. Joseph L. Estvanko, age 44, passed away on August 13, 1949 of an extended illness. He was born July 5, 1905 and had been a lifelong

 resident of the Nitra community in Haralson County. He is survived by his former wife, Mrs. Lois Faye (Hammond) Estvanko and by daughters

Margaret, Elizabeth and Evelyn Estvanko; his mother, Mrs. Eula Estvanko and by brothers Mr. John Estvanko of Columbus, Ohio; Mr. Paul

 Estvanko Jr of Cleveland, Ohio and Mr. Frank Estvanko of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his father Paul Estvanko Sr in 1932. 

Funeral services were held with burial following in the Estavanko Cemetery at Nitra. 

 JOSEPH MICHAEL "JOE C" ESTAVANKO

Mr Joseph M. Estavanko, age 64, of 12128 Auburn Ave in Detroit, passed away at Westland Memorial Hospital in Westland, Michigan in

May 1970. He was born on April 1, 1906 in Hazlebrook, Pennsylvania and was a son of the late Adam and Maria (Grega) Estavanko. 

Mr Estavanko was employed by Gabel Dairy in Detroit until working for the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company, from where

he retired. Mr Estavanko was married to the former Alma Beatrice Adams, and she survives.  He is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law,

Mr and Mrs Robert Cecil (Vida) Cook of Westland and by his step-mother, Mrs Mary Estavanko of Bremen, Georgia; sisters Mrs Albert (Pauline)

Rado of Lorain, Ohio; Mrs Noah (Annie) Maddox of Atlanta, Georgia; Mrs Carl (Kate) Flatt of Detroit, Michigan; Mrs Selma J. (Mary) Shadrix and

Mrs Thomas R. (Helen) Brooks both of Bremen, Georgia and by brothers Mr Steve Estavanko of Detroit, Michigan and Mr Joseph S. Estavanko

 of Bremen, Georgia. He was proceded in death by his mother Maria (Grega) Estavanko in 1915, father Adam Estavanki in 1940 and sisters

Maria in 1905, Margaret in 1918 and a brother John in 1915. Local visitation and services were held in Detroit with additional visitation and

Mr Joseph S. Estavanko, age 76, passed away in June 1980 at Higgins Memorial Hospital in Bremen after a sudden illness. 

He was born on December 25, 1903 to Joseph and Mary (Majda) Estavanko in the "Nitra" community in Haralson County.   He was employed

in the construction field for many years.   He is survived by his wife, Mrs Blanch (Wood) Estavanko of Bremen and children, Mrs Robert S.

(Mary Lou) White of Atlanta; Mr Richard A. Estavanko of Bremen and Miss Patsy Joann Estavanko also of Bremen; by sisters, Mrs Selma J.

(Mary) Shadrix and Mrs T. Riley (Helen) Brooks of both of Bremen, Mrs Albert (Pauline) Rado of Lorain, Ohio, Mrs Carl (Kate) Flatt of Detroit

Michigan and Mrs Noah (Annie) Maddox of Atlanta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs Lucy Cappie (Chambers) Estavanko

 and sons Joseph Cappie "J. C." Estavanko and Mr Danny S. Estavanko; sisters, Miss Margaret Estavanko and brother Mr Joseph M. "Joe C"

Estavanko in 1970. Visitation and Funeral services were held at Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen with burial following at Forest Lawn

Cemetery in Bremen.   

 LOIS FAYE (HAMMOND) ESTVANKO

Mrs Lois Estvanko passed away  in 1999.  She was born in 1914 and was married to Joseph L. "Little Joe" Estvanko who preceded her in

death in 1949. She is survived by daughters Margaret, Elizabeth and Evelyn. Burial took place in the Mausoleum within Forest Lawn

Mrs Lorraine Estavanko, age 70, passed away at the home of her son in January 1985 of a sudden illness. 

She was a homemaker and had made her home in the Detroit area until the past year. 

She is survived by her husband, Stephen "Steve" Estavanko and by her son and daughter-in-law Mr and Mrs Steve (Elizabeth) Estavanko;

one granddaughter Miss Elizabeth Ann "Liz Ann" Estavanko. 

She was preceded in death by several sisters

Mrs Lucy Cappie Estavanko, age 42, passed away at her home of an extended illness.  She was born on May 31, 1901. 

She was married to Joseph S. Estavanko and he survives her.  Other survivors include a daughter, Miss MaryLou Estavanko.  She was preceded

 in death by a son, "J. C." Estavanko in 1930. Services were conducted with burial following at the Bethel Church Cemetery in Bremen.

MARIA (GREGA) ESTAVANKO

Mrs Maria (nee Grega) Estavanko of Hazelbrook, Pennsylvania and formerly of the Slovak settlement of "Nitra" in Haralson County, passed away

suddenly on July 3, 1915.   Her death was brought on from convulsions which resulted in a fall in which caused her to go into premature labor. 

She was married in Haralson County in 1897 to Adam Estavanko and he survives her along with her children Annie, Joseph M., Steve, Pauline,

Margaret and John.   She is also survived by her mother, Mrs Annie Grega and brothers Joseph Grega, Frantisek Grega and Michael Grega all

of Freeland, Pennsylvania, and her In-Laws, Mr and Mrs Jacob Estavanko of the Nitra community.   She was proceeded in death by her father,

Michael Grega and by children Maria and Michael in 1905. Visitation took place in the family home and funeral services were held at St John

 Nepomucene Roman Catholic Church in Freeland, Pennsylvania with burial following in St John Nepomucene Slovak Cemetery in

              Freeland.              

MARGARET ESTAVANKO:

Miss Margaret Estavanko, age 6, of the "Nitra" community passed away suddenly at her home in July 1918 from complications of a nose bleed.   

She was born in 1912 in Hazlebrook, Pennsylvania and was the daughter of Adam & Mary (Majda) Estavanko and the late Maria (Grega)

Estavanko. Margaret was a happy child who enjoyed life daily and will be sadly missed by her family, friends and neighbors. 

She is survived by her parents and by sisters, Pauline, Annie, Kate and brothers Joseph M. "Joe C" and Steve and Joseph S. "Big Joe";

grandparents Mrs Annie Grega of Freeland, Pennsylvania and Mr and Mrs Jacob Estavanko of "Nitra". 

Funeral services were held in the home at "Nitra" with burial following at the Estavanko Cemetery at "Nitra".

MARY (CZIMAR) ESTAVANKO

Mrs Mary Estavanko, age 85, passed away on May 17, 1932.  She was a resident of the Slovak community of Nitra in Haralson County. 

She was born in Austria-Huungary (now known as Slovakia) in 1847 and had been a resident of Haralson County since the mid 1890's.  She

was married to Jacob Estavanko who preceded her in death in 1923. She is survived by a son, Mr. Adam Estavanko of Nitra.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mr Joseph Estavanko in 1909. Funeral services were held in the home with burial following in the

 Estavanko Cemetery at Nitra.

MARY (MAJDA) ESTAVANKO

Mrs Mary Estavanko age 85, of Bremen, passed away December 24, 1972 at Higgins Memorial Hospital in Bremen.   

She was born on May 31, 1887 in Slovakia and arrived in America at age 12 in 1899 and had been a resident of Haralson County the past

70 years. She made her home in the "Nitra" community of Haralson County for many years and then made her home with her daughter in Bremen. 

She was a charter member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Carrollton. Survivors include daughters, Mrs Selma J. (Mary) Shadrix

and Mrs Thomas R. (Helen) Brooks both of Bremen; Mrs Albert (Pauline) Rado of Lorain, Ohio; Mrs Carl (Kate) Flatt of Detroit, Michigan; Mrs

Noah (Annie) Maddox of Atlanta, Georgia and by sons Mr Joseph S. Estavanko of Bremen and Mr Steve Estavanko of Detroit, Michigan. 

She was preceded in death by her 1^st husband, Mr Joseph Estavanko in 1909 and by her 2^nd husband, Mr Adam Estavanko in 1940 and by

 a son, Mr Joseph M. Estavanko in 1970 and by her sister Mrs Eula Estvanko in 1955. Visitation was held at Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen

with services conducted at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Carrollton with Father Edwards officiating. 

Burial followed in the Estavanko Cemetery at "Nitra".

Miss Patsy Estavanko, age 43, passed away March 15, 1996 after a lingering="center" st"margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"> Visitation and Funeral services were held at Hightower in Bremen with burial following a Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Bremen.

Funeral Services Today For George Henry Hilton
George Henry Hilton, 49 passed away at his home on route 2 suddenly Sunday morning. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 o'clock this afternoon

 from the Bethlehem church in Haralson county conducted by Rev. J.W. Clinton and Rev. J.R. Ellis. Internment will be in the adjoining cemetery

with Lester C. Litesey Funeral home in charge. Pallbearers will be Gordon Brewster, Claude Roberson, Wesley Williams, William Worthy, Melvin

 Worthy, Lloyd Worthy. Mr Hilton was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife the former Miss Lula Newby, of

Rockmart; the following children by a former marriage; (Mary Estes) two sons, Henry of the U.S. Navy; Howard of Chattanooga, Tenn; two

daughters, Mrs Annie Lou Rogers of Marietta, GA; and Mrs Vivian Smith, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; five brothers, Oscar, of Tallapoosa; Reuben of

Mrs. Nancy Helton (actually Hilton) aged 84 years, after an illness of only a few days, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Ashley, in

Cedartown on Thursday of last week. Interment in the cemetery at Bethlehem church , near Felton, Friday afternoon. Rev N. R. Williamson

conducting the funeral service. The deceased had been a consistent member of the Baptist church for many years. She leaves several children,

two brothers, and a host of relatives to mourn her death. We mourn because she is gone, yet we can look back over the life she has lived and

realize that she is safe in the arms of our Saviour. (Wife of James F. Hilton. James F. Hilton born 04 Jul. 1829, died 27 Mar. 1894. Both buried at

 Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.)

 (maiden name Wilson) died January 6, 1916. Tombstone says she was 84 years old which makes her birth around 1832. Her parents John W

Wilson and Martha Elizabeth Phillips Wilson are buried in the Wilson cemetery, which is back in the woods of Roy Brown Road. Not easy to find

 FRANK JOHN HOLLEY SR

Mr Frank J. Holley Sr. age 72, passed away from a sudden illness on December 21, 1965.   Mr Holley was born October 2, 1893 in New

York City and moved as a young man to the Hungarian settlement of Budapest, in Haralson County, Georgia. He was a member of St Mary's

 Catholic Church in Avon, Ohio and was a carpenter by trade.  He built his own home and homes for almost all of his children. He was married

in 1910 to Margaret H. (nee Rado) Holley and she preceded him in death in May of 1945. Survivors include sons Louis S. Holley of Avon, Ohio;

Frank J. Holley Jr. of Amherst, Ohio and daughters Mrs Clarence (Julia) Barone of California and Mrs Michael (Margaret) Behlke of Avon,

Ohio; a brother Mr Will Selesky of Atlanta, Georgia and several grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at Emil Dovala Funeral Home,

followed by a Mass of Christian burial through St Marys Catholic Church.  Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio

            Tallapoosa—Mrs. J. A. Huddleston, of Tallapoosa, died at her home here Sunday night after an illness of five months.  She is survived by

her husband; three daughters, Mrs. M. S. Word of Atlanta, Mrs. Frances Nixon of Birmingham, and Miss Faye Huddleston of Tallapoosa, Ga;

a granddaughter, Mrs. W. P. Drew of Brunswick; three grandsons, Irving H. Sloan of Miami, Joe H. Sloan of Seattle, Wash., and Walker Jack

Sloan of Atlanta; one sister, Mrs. G. W. Newton, Forsyth.  Funeral services were held in Forsyth Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the First

Methodist Church.

The Rev. Olin Howard King, 76, of Waco died Thursday, June 23, 1994, in a local hospital.  He was born in Carroll County March 10, 1918, son of
the late William T. and Annie Ardelia McGuire King.  He worked at Sewell Manufacturing Co. before opening his own business, King's Music Shoppe
and Bookstore, Tallapoosa, in 1959 or 1960.  He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in the
Buncombe community.

He began preaching in Septemeber 1955, retiring from the pastorate in 1986 after having pastored Riverside Baptist Church for three years and
Bethany Baptist Church, both near Tallapoosa, for 24 years.  He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Doris Barrow King; son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Marion W. King of Chipley, Fla.; daughter
and son-in-law, Dr. Wayne and Joan Hamrick of Ringgold; sister, Myrtle Holdbrooks of Carrollton; brothers Melvin King of Cedartown, Arnold King
of Fitzgerald, Q.P. King of Carrollton, Robert Huland King of Bremen and Willard King of Waco; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday, June 25, at 4 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnny Carden and Irvine Phillips and Dr. Wayne Hamrick
officiating.  Music was by a choir, directed by Dewey Caldwell and Clarence Vines, with the congregation joining in.  Pallbearers were son,
Marion W. King; grandsons Mark King, Micah Hamrick, Tony King, and Kevin King; and grandson-in-law, Ed Combs.  Honorary pallbearers were
preachers and his Sunday school class.  Interment was in Waco Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Tallapoosa, in charge of arrangements.

    Funeral Held Sunday.  Dr. Charles H. Koentz, 73, passed away at his home her last Saturday afternoon after an illness of several weeks.
    Dr. Koentz was a well known and beloved citizen of this section and his many friends were saddened at the news of his death.
    He was a member of the Methodist Church, Tallapoosa Lodge of Masons, Tallapoosa Lions Club.  He was an active Church member and

of social affairs for a number of years. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Methodist Church with the Rev.

Fred L. Glisson, officiating, and the music was rendered by the Church choir.  The following gentlemen were active pallbearers,   Mr. B. F.

Mitnick, Isaac Mitnick, Mr. H. B. Johnson, Mr. Hubert Smith, Dr. L. C. Waldrop and Mr. E. L. Juillet.  Interment followed in the family

lot in Hollywood cemetery.  He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Koentz and one daughter, Mrs. Howard Bentley

J.C. McBrayer of Paulding County Dies at Age of 86

Joseph Candler McBrayer, resident of Paulding County and retired farmer, died at the age of 86 Wednesday morning, of last week, following

four days illness. For sixty years and four months Mr. McBrayer, who before his retirement on account of advancing old age had been

one of the most influential citizens of Paulding county. He had resided in the Dallas community all his life.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon. In addition to his wife he is survived by four sons, William, Joseph, Ben
H., and Leonard B. McBrayer all of Paulding county, and 7 daughters, Mesdames I.C. Walton and G.C Goldin, of Draketown, Mrs. W.L. Hogue,

of Villa Rica, Mrs.R.B. Goldin, of Rockmart, Mrs. Paul Astin, of Lithonia, Mrs. Sam Astin, of Plant City, Fla., and Mrs. K.S. Bell of Hapeville.

Additional Comments:
The McBrayers lived in Draketown on the Carroll, Paulding, Haralson County line. He had been married to Georgia Garner McBrayer at the

time of his death for sixty years and four months although that sentence in the obit is not completed.

Mrs. J.C. McBrayer, 78, Passes at Draketown

Mrs. Joseph Candler McBrayer, age 78, died suddenly at her home in Draketown on Saturday night, July 4th.
Although she had been in ill health for some time, her death was unexpected. A little more than two months ago her husband died

shortly after they had celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary, and about three weeks ago, G.C. Goldin, a son-in-law died.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. McBrayer at Draketown Monday afternoon in the presence of a large assemblage of friends and

relatives.

Deceased is survived by eleven children as follows: Mrs. I.C. Waldrop and Mrs. G.C. Goldin, Draketown; Mrs. W.L. Hogue, Villa Rica,

Mrs. Paul Astin, Lithonia; Mrs. K.S. Bell, Hapeville; Mrs. R.B. Goldin, Rockmart; Mrs. Sam Astin, Plant City, Fla., and W.J., J.L., B.H. and L.B.

Mrs. J.C. McBrayer, age 78, died Saturday night, July 4th, at 10:30 o'clock at her home on Villa Rica, Ga., Rt. 2.
Mrs. McBrayer is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Ira Walton, Mrs. Hogue, Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Astin, Mrs. Goldin, Mrs. Astin, Mrs. Goldin,

four sons, Messrs. Will, Joe, Ben and Leonard McBrayer. Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 6th at Draketown by Rev. C.
Campbell. The grandsons of the deceased acted as pallbearers and the granddaughters acted as flower girls. Interment was in the church yard.

Additional Comments:
Georgia Garner McBrayer lived in Draketown but apparently had a Villa Rica address, therefore one obit list her as Villa Rica and the

other Draketown.

Mrs. Jennie Ora Morgan, of Buchanan passed away Friday, June 9. Mrs. Morgan was born in Haralson County Dec. 7, 1883 the daughter of

the late Ann Wilson Eaves and C. C. Eaves. She was a member of Buchanan Baptist Church.  Survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ira Murphy

Cedartown, two sons, Doyal Morgan and Paul Morgan, Buchanan; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 10, at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of the Hightower Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Collins officiating.

Interment Buchanan City cemetery. Organ music was rendered by Mrs. Estelle Edwards.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: David

Mrs. Carrie Lou Emma Munroe, of Route 2, Buchanan, passed away Friday evening, April 25.

Mrs. Munroe was born in Haralson County, December 8, 1893, the daughter of the late Melvina Norton Brown and James Brown. 

She was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church.

Survived by one daughter, Mrs. Virgil Haney, Buchanan, six sons :  Clifford Munroe, Conyers; Pearman Munroe, Maurice Munroe, Sidney
Munroe, Buchanan; Emery Munroe, Carrollton; Mr. Curley Munroe, Bremen; two sisters, Mrs. Evie Little, Felton; and Daisy Wood, Buchanan; 22
grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 27, at 3 p.m. from Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. J.T. Williams, Rev. Clay Jacobs
officiating.  Interment Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery.

Music was rendered by the McBrayer Trio.

Old Grand Father Munroe departed this life Thursday morning, Dec. 17, and was buried at Bethlehem Friday.  He was one of Haralson's oldest and
best citizens.  He was said to be the oldest man living in the county; but now he is gone to rest.  He was a member of the Baptist church and
lived a faithful member up to death.  He has a wife, children and many friends to mourn their loss.

Hubert Clifford Munroe of Eatonton, Georgia, formerly of Bremen, Ga. passed away suddenly October 27, 1969.

Mr. Munroe was born in Alabama, April 12, 1911 the son of the late Carrie Brown Munroe and Virgil Munroe.  He was a member of Bethlehem
Methodist Church and was employed by the J. B. McCrary Company.

Survived by his wife, Mrs. Irene Smith Munroe; one daughter, Mrs. Geraldine King, Bremen; one son, J. V. Munroe, U. S. Navy, Norfork, Va.;

Bremen; and Emery Munroe, Carrollton; and three grandchildren.

Clay Jacobs officiating.  Interment Bremen City Cemetery.

Mrs. Munroe Dies Suddenly

The people of Buchanan were indeed shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. M. C. Munroe, which sad event occurred a few miles out from Buchanan
last Friday evening.  Mrs. Munroe was apparently enjoying the best of health up to the time of her death, and her sudden passing away
-attributed to heart failure - cast a gloom of sadness over the entire community in which she had so long lived.  Mrs. Munroe was the wife of
B. O. Munroe, better known as "Uncle Ben," whose death occurred several years ago.  Mrs. Munroe was a good, Christian lady, a strict member of
the church, and a friend to everybody.  Peace to her ashes.

THEODORE (CURLEY) MUNROE

Theodore Munroe. Theodore (Curley) Munroe of Lakeview Drive, Bremen, died Sept. 4, 1997.

Mr. Munroe was born in Haralson County on Nov. 22, 1927, son of the late Virgil Munroe and Carrie Brown Munroe.  He was a retired

employee of Temple Wood Products, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include wife, Mrs. Juanita Estridge Munroe of Bremen; brother, Sidney Rudolph Munroe, of Bremen; and a number of nieces

and nephews.

Graveside services were Sept. 6 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Don Stribling officiating.

Funeral Held At Bethlehem For Virgil Munroe

Mr. Virgil Maurice Munroe, of Rt. 2, Buchanan, Ga. passed away at his residence Wednesday evening, July 23, 1958 after an extended illness.

Mr. Munroe was born in Haralson County, Nov. 26, 1888, the son of the late Caroline Winkle Munroe and Benjamin Munroe.  He was a farmer

and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Felton, Ga.

Survived by his wife, the former Carrie Lou Emma Brown, one daughter, Mrs. John Haney, Bremen, Ga., six sons, Mr. Clifford Munroe,

Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon, July 24, 1958 at 2:30 p.m. from Bethlehem Baptist Church, Felton, Ga. with Rev. J. T.
Williams and Rev. Hershel Howard officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.  The Isom Lee Trio had charge of the music.

The following gentlemen served as pall bearers:  Messrs. Homer Little, Howard Munroe, Asbury Munroesom, M.W.  Earl Rowell.

Mr. WILLIAM EMERY MONROE

William Monroe.
Mr. William Emery Monroe of Hurst Mill Road, Bremen, died Friday morning, April 26, 1996.

He was born in Haralson County on Nov. 4, 1924, son of the late Virgie Monroe and Carrie L. Brown Monroe.  Mr. Monroe was a retired

 employee of the Douglas and Lomason Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Eidson Monroe.

Survivors include five daughters, Diane McKenzie and Regina Shaw, both of Muscadine, Ala., Wanda Pitts of Carrollton, Cindy Estvanko and Jill
Pendergraft, both of Bremen; two sons, Donald Monroe of Tallapoosa and Gary Monroe of Bremen; two brothers, Rudolph Monroe of

Buchanan and Curley Munroe of Bremen; and 18 grandchildren.

Services were April 28 at Hightower Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Gordon Willingham, David Lester, W.A. Ivie and Charles

Munroe officiating.  Music was by Harold McWhorter.  The grandsons served as pallbearers.  Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery with

 Hightower Funeral home, Bremen, in charge of arrangements.

Funeral Thursday For Mrs. Ploof  

           Mrs. Lunda Ploof, 63, wife of Mr. P.M. Ploof, died last Wednesday morning at 4:30 o’clock at her home 4 miles northeast of Bremen.
            Surviving here are her husband, two sons, Mr. James Ploof, Mr. Tee Ploof, and one daughter, Mrs. Azalee Holcombe; three sisters, Mrs.

W.C. Rush, Mrs. W.J. Cash, Mrs. Hettie Winkles; three brothers, Mr. Oscar Wilkins, Mr. Leroy Wilkins, Mr. Monroe Wilkins and a number of

nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were nephews and grandsons: Clarence Cash, Chester Cash, Fred Wilkins, Roy Smith, Melva Ploof, Leroy

Ploof and Robert Swann.  Funeral services were held at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church Thursday at 2 o’clock P.M. Rev. G.L. Bell, Rev.

 C.R. Campbell and Rev. Anderson Goldin, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.  Mrs. Ploof was a member of Corinth Church.

She was a good Christian and will be missed by her many friends. She spent the greater part of her life in Haralson County.

            Hoyt Kinney Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.        

 

ALBERT JOSEPH "RED" RADO:

Albert J. "Red" Rado, age 66, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 1960 at St Joseph Hospital in Lorain, Ohio.  He had been a resident of Lorain

 having moved from Budapest (Haralson County) Georgia in 1936. Mr Rado was born on October 3, 1893 in Manhattan, New York to Ignatz

 and Julia Anna (Poor) Rado.  As a child his family migrated to the Hungarian Settlement of "Budapest" located in Haralson County, Georgia. 

He was married to Pauline (nee Estavanko) Rado in 1929 in Haralson County, Georgia and she survives him. Mr Rado was retired from National

 Tube Steel Company in Lorain and was a member of St Ladislaus Roman Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Pauline (nee Estavanko) Rado, daughters Mrs Roy H. (Elizabeth) Conley and Miss Catherine Rado, both of Lorain, Ohio, and brother William M. "Bela"

Rado also of Lorain.   Mr Rado was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Rado in 1931, sister Mrs Margaret H. (Rado) Holley in 1945 and

brother Steve G. Rado in 1951. Visitation was held at the Emil Dovala Funeral Home in Lorain with a Mass of Christian burial at St Ladislaus

 Roman Catholic Church conducted by Father Zoltan Demko. 

Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio. 

 

HELEN RADO

Helen Rado, newborn daughter of Albert and Pauline (nee Estavanko) Rado of the Budapest Settlement was stillborn this morning, January 17,

1931. She is survived by her parents Albert and Pauline (nee Estavanko) Rado, maternal grandparents Adam and Mary Estavanko of the "Nitra"

Settlement and several Uncles, Aunts and Cousins. News of her death has caused tremendous sadness throughout the Budapest area.   

Services were held at the Budapest Cemetery by the local Parish Priest from St Joseph Catholic Church in Budapest with burial following.

 

 

 

JULIA RADO

Julia Rado, the 2 month old infant daughter of Ignatz and Julia Anna (Poor) Rado of the Budapest community died after an extended illness on

June 6, 1900.  Julia was born April 8, 1900 and had been ill since birth. She is survived by her parents and siblings, Steve, Albert, Margaret

and William Rado.  The community mourns with the family on this sad occasion. Services and burial took place at the Budapest Cemetery

under the direction of St Joseph Catholic Church of Budapest.

 

 

 

  IGNATZ RADO  1856  -  1906

The Budapest Community lost one of its prominent members with the passing of Ignatz Rado.   Mr Rado was born July 24, 1856 in Gyor Sopron,

Hungary.  He arrived in America on August 3, 1891 and migrated to the Hungarian Settlement of Budapest in Haralson County, on August 4,

1895. He is survived by his wife Julia Anna (Poor) Rado and by his children, Steve George Rado, Albert Joseph Rado, Margaret Helen Rado

and William Michael Rado. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Rado on June 6, 1900. Services and burial took place at the

Budapest Cemetery with services being conducted through St Joseph Catholic Church of the Budapest Community.  

 

 

 

MARGARET HELEN (RADO) HOLLEY

Mrs Margaret Holley, age 50, collasped and died from a massive stroke at her home in Lorain (Sheffield Twp), Ohio on May 1, 1945. Mrs Holley

was born in April 1895 in Manhattan, New York and migrated as a child with her family to the Hungarian settlement of Budapest located in

Haralson County, Georgia. Mrs Holley is survived by her husband, Frank John Holley and by her sons Louis Stephen Holley and Frank John

Holley Jr serving in the military overseas.  She is also survived by her twin daughters Miss Margaret and Miss Julia Holley of the home, by

brothers Steve G. Rado, Albert J, Rado and William M. Rado of Lorain.  She was preceded in death by her parents Ignatz Rado in 1906 and

Julia Anna (Poor) Rado in 1925 and infant sister Julia in 1900. Visitation was held at Reidy-Scanlan Funeral Home in Lorain with burial taking

place at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio.

 

 

 

PAULINE (ESTAVANKO) RADO

Mrs Pauline Rado, age 83, passed away Saturday, December 18, 1993, at the home of her daughter in Lorain, Ohio. Mrs Rado was born March

15, 1910 in Hazelbrook, Pennsylvania and grew up in the Slovak Settlement of "Nitra" in Haralson County, Georgia a daughter of the late Adam

Estavanko. She married in 1929 to Albert Joseph "Red" Rado who preceded her in death on April 10, 1960. Mrs Rado was employed at

National Tube Steel Company, Service Overhaul and Lorain Towel Supply where she retired from in 1975.  She was a member of St

Ladislaus Roman Catholic Church in Lorain. Mrs Rado is survived by her daughters, Mrs Roy H. (Elizabeth) Conley and Miss Catherine M.

 Rado, both of Lorain, 1 grandson and 2 granddaughters and 1 Great-Grandson and by sisters Mrs Pete (Mary) Shadrix and Mrs T. Riley (Helen)

Brooks of Bremen, Georgia, Mrs Noah (Annie) Maddox of Lithia Springs, Georgia and Mrs Carl (Kate) Flatt of Detroit, Michigan.  

Mrs Rado was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. "Red" Rado, daughter Helen Rado in 1931, brothers Michael, John, Steve, Joseph

M and Joseph S. Estavanko and sisters, Maria and Margaret Estavanko. Visitation was held on Monday, December 20th at the John R. Dovin

Funeral Home in Lorain and a Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, December 21^st at St Ladislaus Romas Catholic Church

with burial following at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.  

 

 

STEVE GEORGE RADO

Mr Steve George Rado, age 59, passed away at St Joseph Hospital in Lorain, Ohio from an extended illness on December 5, 1951.  Mr Rado was

born on May 5, 1892 in Manhattan, New York and migrated with his family to the Budapest Settlement in Haralson County, Georgia as a child.   

He was employed at National Tube Steel Company in Lorain and was a member of St Ladislaus Roman Catholic Church in Lorain as well.  He was

 a veteran of WWI having served in the U S Army in the Calvary Division. Mr Rado is survived by his wife, Mary (Horvath) Rado and children,

George Newman Rado and Miss Irene Marie Rado, both of Lorain. Visitation was held at the Reidy-Scanlan Funeral Home in Lorain with a

 Mass of Christian burial taking place at St Ladislaus Roman Catholic Church in Lorain.  Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain. 

** Note **  Mr Rado's remains were moved to Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Avon, Ohio in then late 1960's.

 

 

 

WILLIAM MICHAEL RADO SR.

Mr William M. Rado Sr. age 70, passed away February 12, 1969 at St Joseph Hospital in Lorain, Ohio after a lingering illness.   He was born on July

16, 1898 in the Hungarian settlement of Budapest (Haralson County), Georgia.  He maried Mary Helen (Kelly) Rado and she survives him. Mr Rado

is survived by his children, Mrs Mandell (Emma) Smith of Elyria, Ohio, Mrs George (Helen) Tomasic of Lorain, Mrs Steve (Mary) Zboran of Sheffield,

Ohio, Mrs Joseph (Sharon) Lalak of Huntington Park, California and Mr William M. Rado Jr of Sheffield Lake, Ohio. He was preceded in death

 by a daughter, Evelyn Rado and by brothers Steve G. Rado in 1951, Albert J. "Red" Rado in 1960 and by his sister Mrs Margaret (nee Rado)

Holley in 1945. Visitation was held at Emil Dovala Funeral Home in Lorain with burial taking place at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

 

 

 

MISSOURI VASTI ROBERTSON

Funeral held Saturday for Mrs. Robertson.  (Date of death, November 30, 1950)
    Mrs. Vasti Robertson, 76, died at her home near Steadman last Friday morning after an illness of several months.
    Mrs. Robertson was born in Haralson County and had been a resident all her life and her many friends and relatives were sadden by the news

 of her death.  Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. J. J. Hagood,

assisted by the Rev. P. P. Johnson.  Large host of friends and relatives paid their tribute of respect. 

 

Her grandsons were active pallbearers.  She was laid beside her husband in Pleasant Hill cemetery.  She was survived by her son, Mr. George

Chandler and one daughter, Mrs. Dave Allen and many other relatives.   The Miller funeral Home had charge of the funeral.

 

Note by Transcriber:  Missouri Vasti was the daughter of Elisha Gentry and Nancy Dorinda Malone.  Her first husband was William Chandler

who passed away May 20, 1888.  She married Robert Robertson in 1897 after the death of his first wife Martha Gentry, her sister

 

 

 

LAST RITES WEDNESDAY FOR ROBERT A. SEWELL

 

The obituary below appeared in the Atlanta Journal/Constitution on 24 March 1953. Robert Arling Sewell, son of Hugh Bartow

 Sewell and Mary Susan Mann, was born in Tallapoosa on 28 February 1896. He was married first to Reba Johnson who died in

1941 and second to Dora Belle Vaughan who died in 1996.  File contributed by Glenda Hogg

 

Funeral services for Robert A. Sewell, city police patrolman for 25 years, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Moreland Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. W. Bertram King will officiate with entombment in Westview Abbey. Mr. Sewell, 57, of 616 Hemlock Circle. S. E. died Monday in an Atlanta hospital after a lengthy illness.   Born in Tallapoosa, Mr. Sewell moved to Atlanta 35 years ago. He joined the police force Oct. 10, 1928. The veteran officer had been off duty Avenue Baptist Church, East Atlanta American Legion Post 159, E. A. Minor Lodge, F. & A. M., and Yaarab Temple. Surviving are his wife; a brother, H. L. Sewell, Rome; a sister, Mrs. Hubert Smith, Tallapoosa, and several nieces and nephews.

 

 

 

SELMA J. "PETE" SHADRIX

Mr Selma J. "Pete" Shadrix, age 78, passed away on June 18, 1997 at Higgins Memorial Hospital in Bremen, Georgia.  He was born on April 1,

 1919 in Haralson County. Mr Shadrix was a veteran of WWII having served in the U. S Army.  He attained the rank of Sargeant.  He was

employed by Cluett-Peabody in Bremen, at the "Shirt Shop" as a cutter until his retirement at age 62.  He was a member of Our Lady of

Perpetual Help Catholic  Church in Carrollton. Mr Shadrix was married in December 1940 to the former Mary A. Estavanko and she survives him. 

Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Violet (Goldin) Shadrix of Draketown, 2 grandchildren, C. Shane Shadrix

 and Mrs Shane (Genevie) Dryden also of Draketown, his sister, Mrs Darryl (Annalee) Rogers of Bremen and brother Mr Ollie Shadrix of Villa

Rica.  He was preceded in death by several sisters and brothers. Visitation and funeral services were conducted at Hightower Funeral Home

 & Chapel of Bremen with a Mass of Christian Burial taking place at Our Lade of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Carrollton with

Monsignor Michael Regan and Father John  officiating.  Internment followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremen. 

 

 

 

 

Mrs. J. B. SMITH

Funeral Friday For Mrs. J. B. Smith Held At Baptist Church

Funeral services were held at the Bremen Baptist Church last Friday morning at 11 o'clock for Mrs. Eliza Ellen Smith, wife of Mr. J. B. Smith,

conducted by the pastor, Rev. Frederick E. Smith, assisted by Rev. W. O. Cook, of Cedartown, one of Mrs. Smith's former pastors.  A special

song was rendered by Mr. J. E. Longino.  

Mrs. Smith was 66 years of age and died at her home early Thursday morning following a few days illness.  Her death was a great shock to her

many friends.  She was a good Christian woman and was a member of the Baptist church and had many friends who will mourn her passing.  

She had a sweet disposition and made and held friends, as everyone who knew her loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. J. B. Smith; four daughters, Mrs. W. P. Otwell, Bremen; Mrs. Ivy Davis, Bremen; Mrs. Clifford Munroe,

Buchanan; and Mrs. Otis Bolden, Buchanan; two sons, J. W. Brookshire, Columbus; and M. M. Brookshire, Birmingham, Ala.

Pallbearers were W. P. Otwell, J. W. Smith, J. T. Smith, J. J. Smith, C. M. Brookshire, and Ivy Davis.

Burial was in the city cemetery with Hightower & Thompson Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. J. J. Smith Dies in Bremen.
Mr. J. J. Smith, age 22 years, passed away at his home in Bremen at midnight last Thursday after a month's illness.

The deceased was one of  Bremen's most popular young men and the news of his death was a shock to all who knew him.  He has been in

robust health until he was stricken about a month ago.  He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Smith, and is survived by his parents, his widow,

and two small children.

Funeral services were held at the home of the deceased last Friday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. H. P. Shell (last name difficult to
read), after which the body was interred in the cemetery at Bremen.

The Tribune deeply sympathizes with those bereaved.

Rosie Irene Smith Munroe, 89, or 608 Lawson St., Bremen, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001.  Mrs. Munroe was born in Haralson County on

May 13, 1912.  She was the daughter of the late Jacob B. Smith and the late Mrs. Eliza Crawford Smith.  Mrs. Munroe was a homemaker and

 a member of the Bremen First Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. "Cliff" Munroe and two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Davis and Mrs. Lillie Bolden.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Gerri Williams of Bremen; one son, J.V. Munroe of Atoka, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Sabrina Combs, Mark
King, Robin Munroe and Heather Munroe; two step-grandchildren, Renate Raymond and Dean Williams; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other
relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Bremen City Cemetery today, May 16, at 4 p.m. with Dr. J. Howard Mills officiating.
 Music will be rendered by Heather Munroe. Interment will follow in the Bremen City Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be J.V. Munroe, Ed Combs, Joseph
King, Mark King, Cliff Combs, and Jeremy Robinson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Chandler, Donnie Rowell, Eugene Posey, Johnny Ballew,
Pearl Ballew, and Vickie McElroy.

Sudden death of Duncan Talley

Duncan H. Talley, formerly a citizen of Carroll county, but at present living in Haralson, while topping a tree in his yard on last Monday,
accidentally fell out of the tree and from the injuries received, died in about six hours. The deceased was about sixty years old at the time of his
death. He was well known to a good many of our citizens, having lived in the Ninth district of this county a long time
