The Fish Family of Jasper County, Georgia

JOHN FISH, born ca. 1740 in the Revolutionary War, Lenoir County, N.C.

NATHANAL FISH, born Oct 3 1779, Lenoir County, N.C., New Bern District, died Jasper County, Georgia, Oct 14 1840, married NAOMI (NEOMA in Fish Bible Record) PHILLIPS, daughter of James Phillips, born July 14 1784 - April 8 1846, on March 20 1802, Cravens County, N.C., moved to Georgia ca. 1805.  May have lived in Greene County before living in Jasper County.  Both buried on their plantation near Monticello.

JOHN CALVIN FISH, Dec 22 1807 - Aug 1 1861, first white male born in Jasper County, farmer, storekeeper and large land owner - 28 slaves.  Buried Calvin Fish Cemetery, Jasper County, about five miles NE of Monticello.  He married Feb 4 1831 Sarena Kelly, Jan 5 1814 - Jan 2 1873 daughter of Allen and Mary Riggins who is buried same place.

 

Children of John Calvin and Sarena Kelly Fish:

1.  Nathan Calvin 1838-1914 his will in Jasper County dated Nov 7 1913, recorded Jan 22 1914 mentions two grand children, Myrene and Calvin Fish Phillips, each to receive 300 acres, his wife Elmira and Wiley J. Phillips.  J. A. Kelly was a witness.  Nathan C. Fish married 1866, Elmira Frances Kelly, 1839-1916.

3. William Thomas, born Jasper County 1832, died May 7 1926 married Wilmoth (Willie) Greer, born Jasper County

Children of Nathan Calvin and Elmira Frances Kelly Fish

1.  Maggie Lee  1867-1895, married Wiley Jeptha Phillips as his first wife

2.  John Calvin 1874-1895

3.  Corrine, 1879 - 1909 married 1897 as his second wife Wiley Jeptha Phillips.

Henry Edgar 1875-1949

Jonathan Fish, 1610-1663 came from England with his brothers, Nathaniel and John to Lynn, Mass., ca 1635.  Moved to Sandwich, Cape Cod in 1637 and to Newtontown, L. I. ca. 1659 married Mary ________.

Wilmoth Greer was daughter of Crawford Harrison Greer, born Jasper County 1812 died 1892 who married Margaret W. Lawrence 1815-1861, grand daughter of Thomas Greer born Hancock County, Georgia 1784 died 1850, married Army Johnson great grandaughter of John Greer, born Troupe County, Georgia 1761 died 1843 married Sara Hunt
