The Jordan Family of Jasper County, Georgia

Four Jordan brothers came to Jasper County from Goose Pond District of Oglethorpe County, GA. in 1820.  All those living in Jasper County are descendants of Fleming Jordan.  The brothers were Reuben, buried Monticello Methodist Church Cemetery., Fleming, Charles Scott, buried Monticello Methodist Church Cemetery and Mortimer Jordan.

I.  FLEMING JORDAN, 7/26/1791 - 3/19/1868, married Ann Meriwether, 8/26/1790 - 7/22/1853 on 4/4/1811.  Ann was daughter of Thomas Meriwether, Revolutionary Soldier and Rebecca Mathews, daughter of Georgia's Governor George Mathews.

II.  REUBEN JORDAN, 10/28/1814 - 2/10/1885, married Mary Frances Bonner, 4/4/1820 - 4/10/1909, in 1839, daughter of Pleasant Bonner and Elizabeth Mathis.  Reuben was a representative to the Secession Meeting in 1861. 

ISSUE:

1.  Henry Bonner, 11/26/1839 - 10/15/1935, married Salina Fish, 12/9/1842 - 8/1/1911, buried Monticello Presbyterian Churchyard.

2.  Rebecca Mathews, will dated 3/20/1931, recorded 9/5/1932 names niece Sarah Caple Jordan as her sole heir and exec.

3.  Fleming, wounded and captured at Blair's Farm, died of wounds at Lincoln Hospital, Washington, buried Arlington Cemetery.  In Cavalry under Gen. Hubel Early.

4.  Erasmus Hunter, soldier age 16 in C.W., in Battle of Atlanta.  He was born 5/21/1848 died 4/9/1933, married Rebecca Meriwether Glover, 10/4/1850 - 7/31/1897, daughter of Eli Seymour Glover, 1/25/1825 - 5/8/1878, who married 11/4/1847, Rebecca Mathews Meriwether, 4/5/1827 - 1/7/1851; granddaughter of Capt. Eli Glover, 10/1/1786 - 3/5/1858 who married second 11/7/1822, Lucy Seymour Fish, 11/24/1798 - 10/19/1829 all buried Westview.

 

HENRY BONNER JORDAN married Salina Fish.  His will dated 9/25/1907 recorded 10/18/1935 mentions his wife Salina.  He deeded gifts to Irene J. Johnson, 303 acres and $5500, Rebecca J. Henderson, 405 acres and $5500, Charles H. Jordan, 380 acres, $5500, and Alexander Hunter Jordan, 320 acres and $5500.  Charles H. Jordan and son-in-law Charles L. Henderson were executors.
