The Malone Family of Jasper County, Georgia

Four Malones came from Lincolnshire County, England, two went to New York, two to Statesville, North Carolina. In 1798, George Malone and his wife Martha left North Carolina and came to Wilkes County, Georgia. Martha was the daughter of John Wilkinson and Deborah Sherwood.

1. Francis, 1780-1842 married Martha (Patsy) Chaffin, 1786-1872 in 1802.
2. Sherrod born 1789, Granville, County, N.C., married Nancy Reynolds, 1810-1812.
3. Cader married Polly Evans, 1812 and he died in Wilkes County
4. Christopher married Elizabeth Chaffin in 1811.

6. John, March 14 1815 - June 1885, buried Jarrel Malone Cemetery, Highway 11, 6 miles west of Monticello.
7. Gilbert. There is a Jasper County marriage of a Gilbert Malone who married Mary A. Crawford, Sept 16, 1823.

1. FRANCES MALONE married Jan 5 1802, Martha Chaffin, daughter of Isham Chaffin born Virginia, ca. 1757, died Wilkes County, Georgia (will recorded Aug 26 1823). Lived in Virginia during the Revolution (page 323 Georgia Roster of the Revolution)

1. Jarrel, born Nov 14, 1803, Jasper County, died there in 1868, married 1831, Abigail Bryant, born ca. 1802 and had a daughter born ca. 1837 who died before 1850; John, born ca. 1839 died in childhood and Ruth Malone, born 1840, who married 1866 Zadock Piper (1841-1911)
2. John, born Aug 29 1805, married Nancy Hammack, Jan 24 1828, moved to Claiborne Parish, Louisiana and died there in 1887. They had John Adams, born 1830, Jasper County, who married Mattie Wafer in Louisiana; Amanda E. born ca 1832, Jasper County who married Tatum Menafee Water, born ca. 1825 in Claiborne Parish; James Madison, born Jasper County ca. 1839 married Lenora Maria Willis and he died during the Civil War in Corinth, Miss; William (M. or A.) Malone born 1849, Claiborne Parish, married Sallie Scaif Nicholson
3. Katherine, born Aug 15 1808, married Samuel H. Blackwell, Jan 27 1827. He was born March 4 1803, died March 15 1898, was from Orange County, N.C., Katherine died Feb 6 1834 and her husband married second Martha K. Malone, daughter of Sherrod Malone.

5. Cader, born Jan 3 1812, Jasper County, died Upshur County, Texas, married first March 9 1837, Sarah Banks born ca. 1832, died ca. 1855, married second 1856, Nancy Leverett, born ca. 1834. Farmer and minister of Jasper County. All children born Jasper County, Georgia, except last one, named Georgia, who was born in Upshur County, Texas.

Georgia, born ca. 1867. Family moved to Gilmer Texas ca 1866.
6. FLOYD, March 12, 1815 - May 17 1882 in Jasper County, married first Feb 22 1838, Elizabeth Compton and married second Mrs. Catherine (Cornwell) Belcher.
Floyd joined Georgia Militia in 1863, age 48. He was a corporal of Capt. Augustus W. Lane's Company, which served during the war for local defense in Jasper and Butts Counties. Commissioned a 2nd Lt. April 1864, 3rd Co, Ga Militia. Judge of Jasper County Inferior Court, 1865-1868. (Married first 1838, Elizabeth Compton (1819-1864) buried Lane Cemetery, married second Catherine J. Cornwell (Aug 17 1841 - July 23 1923) daughter of Obediah Cornwell and Mary Ann Lane, widow of Green Belcher who did not return from the Civil War. She is buried at Westview with sons Augustus and Hansell Malone.

1. William Henry (July 22 1847 - Sept 23 1919) married Dec 20 1866, Martha (Mattie) David Kimbrell (Dec 7 1847 - Apr4 1935) both buried at Westview.
2. Francis Jordan, born April 17 1850, married Nov 26 1868, Emily Jane Lane.
Children of Francis and Emily Jane Lane Malone: Sarah C, married Henry Hill; Lucy E., married Frank Daniel McDowell, Stephen F, Elizabeth, married Capt. William James McDowell Preston.
Children of Floyd and Catherine Cornwell Belcher Malone:
Eli Thomas, born 1866 died 1928, married Clara E. Persons (daughter of Mary Ann Kelly and William Pinkney Persons) ; Clarence O. married Addie Kate Kelly, Augustus Lane, married F. Maud Gilmore; Bernice E, married William Augustus Lane; Hansell Bryan, married Corinne Fischer.

8. JEPTHA, born March 8 1820, Jasper County, died Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, Married first in 1841, Abalonia Banks, married second in 1850, Eliza A. Moultry (1820-1867). Jeptha took his second wife and children to Louisiana, ca. 1855. By first marriage had Martha, born 1844, Anna, born ca. 1846 and Jane born ca. 1848, all born Jasper County and by 2nd wife had: Kethurah, born ca. 1851, who died Claiborne Parish in 1888, married Hugh Marcus; Rebecca Ann born 1852 died 1886, Oakley, Idaho, married 1871, Willimam Vanderson Marcus, born 1850 in Claiborne Parish; William Frank, born 1858, Claiborne Parish, died 1887, Junction City, Louisiana, married 1883 Inez Bush; Elmira born Junction City, Louisiana; Georgia, Robert Edwin, born Union Parish, Louisiana died 1929 married Alma Lou Smith born 1872, Summerfield, Louisiana and Cader Malone.
9. FRANKLIN, born April 26 1822, Jasper County, died there Jan 6 1885, married Dec 15 1842, Harriet Emily Johnston (Dec 22 1826 - Dec 18 1902) granddaughter of Littleton Johnston, Rev. War Soldier. She is buried Westview Cemetery.

John Isham (1844-1849); Biddie Louis (Dec 29 1846 - Dec 9 1925) married 1865 William Henry Middlebrooks; William Franklin (Jul 4 1849 - Aug 3 1913) married Robertine Fish Kelly; Thomas Jefferson (1851-1904) married Mary Lucy Comer; Martha Catherine (1853-1939) married Edward Joseph Oxford; Millard (1856-1859); Walker Baker (1858-1914) married Annis Phillips who married second John Pleasant Williams, widower of Willie Eugene Malone, Walker's sister; James Floyd (185-1888) married in Alabama, Fannie Coggins. On a visit back to Monticello he was murdered on the church steps in an apparent "fued fight"; Willie Eugene (1865-1917) married John Pleasant Williams; Harriet (Emma ) (1868-1954) married John Courtney Maddux.

11. WILLIAM H., born Feb 21 1826 married near Monticello, Elmira C. Phillips (Oct 17 1832 - June 10 1866) and married second Anna B. Shields of Madison (Sept 10 1842 - Aug 14 1889) Buried Hopewell Cemetery. Elmira C. Phillips was daughter of Wiley Hartwell Phillips, Sr, born 1791, called Kate.

Martha (Mattie) Louise, born Jasper County 1850 married 1871, John C. Kelley and married second 1874 Allen Malone*, son of Thomas Sherrod Malone, Sr.,; John Rufus (1852-1908) married 1877, Mary K. Aiken daughter of John C. Aiken; Virginia Katherine (1854-1913) married 1873 Patrick Henry Aiken; Elizabeth R. (1858-1892) married 1884, E. B. (Ned) Turk; Adaline (1861-1913) married 1879, Thomas J. Turk; Elymira Jane (1866-1931) married 1885 James Henry Johnston.
*Allen McGee Malone married Martha Louise Malone, widow of John C. Kelly, who was reared until age 16 in Monticello. During the Civil War she lived in Madison, Georgia in a home which was built and presented to her parents by William H. Malone and Elmira Katy Phillips by her parents, Wyley and Lucinda Gilstrap Phillips. Wyler Phillips was the grandfather of Mattie Lou and the son of Thomas Phillips. Lucinda G. Phillips was the daughter of John and Kate Gilstrap who settled near Liberty Church, six miles from Monticello, in 1800. It was there that Wyler met Lucinda and they were married.

Digby married second Charles New; George Burton born 1881 married Addie May Fox; Allen Cleon born 1884 married Bessie Lyles; Jennie Lillian born 1884; Corrie Clyde born 1890, married Julian Witherington

Percy W., born Jasper County, as were all children of William and Anna, married 1893, Willie Kelly; Mamie married Jim Aiken, Isham P., married first Perler V. Malone, daughter of William Franklin Malone; married second Ella Malone; Anna, married J. R. Hines; Vallie (Dute) (daughter) married Sam F. Pennington lived only a short time after her marriage.
12. NANCY J., born July 4 1832, died March 31 1895, married 1849 Dr. William W. Walker, born ca. 1828, farmer and doctor who died ca. 1858. He was son of Henry Walker, 1784-1874, who married 1823 Almira Gilstrap, born 1806, grandson of Hockey Walker who died Jasper County, ca. 1851. They had (A) Harriett O. Walker, born Jasper County, Jan 22 1853, died there Sept 19 1924 who married Dec 21 1876, William Franklin Malone (Sept 28 1850 - Dec 26 1958) son of Stith B. Malone. ; (B) Willie Jane Walker, born Jasper County, June 28 1859, died there Apr 6 1936, married Andrew J. Allen, no children.
2. SHERROD MALONE, married NANCY REYNOLDS. He was born in Granville County, N.C., died 1830. Married Nancy Reynolds ca. 1810. Sherrod with his brothers Francis and Cader moved to Jasper County, ca. 1803. By 1805 he was Capt. of the 291st militia district of formerly Baldwin, now Jasper County.
Children of Sherrod and Nancy Reynolds Malone:
1. George, born ca. 1813, Jasper County, married Mary Ann Beeland, Jan 14 1836, moved away from Jasper County.
2. Martha, born ca. 1814, Jasper County, married second Samuel H. Blackwell who had first married Katherine Malone, daughter of Francis Malone. Samuel (March 4 1803 - March 15 1898) married Martha November 23, 1836, who died ca. 1849. They had eight children.
3. James D., born ca. 1815, Jasper County, married Jan 14 1840, Frances S. Wilson, daughter of Arkilles Wilson of Jasper County, no children.
4. Mary Ann, born ca. 1821, married December 31 1838, Henry W. Gaston, born ca. 1811, apparently moved from Jasper County before 1860. Six children.
5. Stith B., born March 1823, Jasper County, died Feb 13 1901, Jasper County, buried Pope Cemetery. He married Biddy Elmira Johnston (1830-1897) daughter of John Johnston, grand daughter of the Rev. soldier Littleton Johnston. They had John Sherrod born 1848 who married 1875 Martha Tinsley Ezell (1858 - 1933) daughter of John Hartwell Ezell and Emma Gonder Powell of Jasper County; William Franklin (1850 - 1928) who married 1876 Harriett Ophelia Walker (1853 - 1924); Stephen Hugh, born ca. 1854, married 1878, Ada P. Pope and married second India Maddox. No children; Thomas Robert (1855-1915) married Mittie Ida Hardin (1856-1947); Leila Biddie, born ca. 1858, married 1879, William Richard King and moved to Charlotte, N.C., ; Harriett Oda, born ca. 1861, married Robert Judson Minter (1855-1899) moved to Macon, Georgia and she married second a Mr. Castellaw. Descendants live in Macon; Joseph or Josiah Pope, 1864 1956, born Jasper County, died Rome Georgia, married 1891, Ella C. Downs (1870-1951); Charlie Renfroe Malone, born 1871 died 1961, married 1894 Clifford E. Downs, 1876-1940. Both buried Westview Cemetery.
6. Louisa Harriett, born 1824, died Jasper County 1905, buried Hillsboro Cemetery, married 1849, James E. Wilson.
7. Nancy R., born 1825 Jasper County, married 1841, William O. Edmondson. Moved to Chattooga County, Georgia and in the 1870's moved to Palo Pinto Co, Texas, where Nancy died in 1893. Her husband was born 1819 died 1898. They had 13 children.
8. Sarah Jane (1826-1877) married 1849, Henry Dennis Cooley Edmondson (1823-1901) both died Chattooga, County, Georgia.
9. Elizabeth C. A., born 1827 married 1847 Jasper County, Thomas F. Danielly, born ca. 1820, probably moved from Jasper County before 1860.
10. Frances Amanda (1828-1886) married 1848, Josiah P. Pope (1826-1910) buried Jasper County. Eight children.
11. Thomas Sherrod, May 2 1830 - Sept 11 1896, was only six months old when his father died. Married March 11 1850, Sarah Ann Kelly (Apr 2 1832 - March 30 1911) He was a farmer.

Allen McGee born 1852, Jasper County, married Martha Louise Malone, called Mattie Lou; Nancy A, born ca. 1855; Permelia born ca. 1858; Thomas Sherrod, Jr, 1862-1924, married first Lillian Smith of Kentucky, divorced and married second Mary Douglas. By first marriage had Kirby Smith Malone, by second marriage had Thomas Sherrod Malone, III who married second Alice Sanders; John Burton * 1864-1917 married 1885, Mattie Blackwell; India Amarintha 1868-1907, married Crawford Harrison Greer in 1890; Eugene Bartlett, 1872-1905 married 1894 Bessie Mixon Spears. After his death Bessie married Thomas Burton Persons; Elizabeth married William Gibson Greer; Zipporah married Henry Smith.
*John Burton Malone 1864-1917 married 1885 Mattie Blackwell, 1866-1949 daughter of William Floyd Blackwell and Salina Shaw. Children of John Burton and Mattie Blackwell Malone; Iva V. married Gaynell Still; Buford Gaidry, born 1887 married Angie Little, sister to Mattie Ola Little who married Elmo Clyde Kelly, Sr; Alva Woody born 1889, Lillius, Nattie, Rosaline and Alton born 1892.
