PERRY IS KILLED BY AUTOMOBILE
FORMER CITIZEN OF SHADY DALE MEETS A HORRIBLE DEATH IN ATLANTA, TUESDAY NIGHT OF THIS WEEK
Relatives and friends in this section of the State were shocked and grieved to learn of the sudden death of Mr. W. W. Perry which occurred in Atlanta, Tuesday night. Mr. Perry was reared at Shady Dale and was quite popular among a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. He and his family have been residing in Atlanta for the past several years. At one time he was a bookkeeper in Monticello for the J. H. Kelly Company. Before leaving Shady Dale he was engaged in the mercantile business and other pursuits.
At the time of his death, Mr. Perry was connected with the Broyles chain of grocery stores.
The following account of his untimely end appeared in Wednesday's Atlanta Journal:
Crashing into an automobile while hurrying across Grant street, near Milledge Avenue, to catch a street car, W. W. Perry of 113 Stewart Avenue, was killed instantly and almost decapitated early Tuesday night. Perry ran into the side of the car and drove his head through the glass door, according to J.C. McCarthy of 399 Georgia Avenue, driver of the car and S. H. Henderson of 741 Humphries Street a companion of Perry's.
Henderson said that Perry stepped from the curb after turning to say good-by to him and probably did not ever see the automobile. McCarthy who said he was driving at a moderate speed, had his first intimation of danger when the man struck the side of his car.
Perry was rushed to Grady hospital but physicians there said he had probably died instantly. He was 45 years old and is survived by his wife, two sons, Edwin K. Perry and Clayton Perry, his mother Mrs. E. F. Perry, two sisters, Miss Hattie Perry and Miss Capie Perry, and five brothers, Harvey Perry and J. L. Perry of Shady Dale; Oscar Perry and E. F. Perry of Kelly, and Marvin Perry of Boston, Mass. He was associated with the Broyles retail stores and was a member of Shady Dale Methodist church.
The remains were taken Wednesday afternoon to Shady Dale, Georgia for funeral services and interment.
