(The following additional deeds to Phillips Thurmond are interesting only in that he appears to be buying a lot of land, probably a speculator, not likely to have a connection with James Brooks--JSB.)

Land was granted to Rachel Carter by (governor) Irwin dated 20 Oct 1807 [JSB: This date conflicts with date of deed.] Signed by David McCoy, atty. for Rachel Carter. Wit: Elijah Clark, Wm. Head. On May 9, 1809, deed was proved when William Head made oath he saw McCoy sign.
