W. C. Sampson - [Sansom]

The first group of online records contains incorrect information regarding SAMPSON, W.C.

This is WILLIAM CHARLES SANSOM. I have copies of his application for a Confederate pension from the state of Texas, for which he applied in 1899.

This pension states he was in Company E., 44th Georgia infantry. He was wounded in his right arm at Sharpsburg Md. in Sept. 1862 and it was amputated, and wounded in the left leg. He was taken prisonor at Sharpsburg, and in prison until 1864. . His brother, JOEL H. SANSOM (a member of the Cavalry, said that William Charles Sansom enlisted in the Confederate Army in Jasper County, Georgia in Company E, 44th Ga. Regiment. .

Also, a JOSHUA HAMMOND of Spalding Co., Ga. as 1st Lieutenant of said company above, also attested to this pension application. He was 64 in 1899. WILLIAM CHARLES SANSOM in 1899 was 54 so born in 1845.

William Charles Sansom was a son of Isaac Sansom and Sarah Kitchens Sansom, and his parents lived in 1866 in Mississippi so he apparently came back to Jasper Co. to enlist. His brother, Joel and sister, Sarah are in Jasper Co., Ga. census of 1860 with grandparents, Charles and Elizabeth Kitchens. Joel later lived Van Zandt Co., Tx. 1900 census.

William Charles Sansom died 3 October 1921 in Voth, Jefferson Co., Tx. at the home of a sister, Mrs. M.J. Michals (Matilda Jane, we believe).
