Deed of gift to children by Joseph and Sally Wilson.  Dated October 3, 1817

The Third day of October in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

 

Know all men by these presence that we Joseph Wilson and Salley Wilson of the State and County aforesaid for diverse good causes by us considered as well as the love and affection which we have for our children have thought proper this day to make the following deed of gift and upon the following principly  

 

To Wit:  To our daughter Michal, a negro girl named Cherry, to our daughter Polly a negro girl named Dicey, to our daughter Alcey, a negro girl named Nancy, to our daughter Sally a negro girl named Charity, to our daughter Ginny a negro girl named Vincy, to our son Abel a negro boy named Stephen, to our son Joseph a negro boy named Jupiter, and to our two youngest children, Jackson and Betsey a negro a piece worth five hundred dollars or that amount in money for which preparation is made in the will of Joseph Wilson, bearing equal date with this instrument for that purpose.

 

Also to our daughter Lucy, a negro girl named Rhoda.  The following property may be claimed and received by any and each of the children when they respectively arrive at the age of eighteen or marry, according to the articles of this deed.  Moreover on these terms and these only we give this property that is that no sale of any part of the same shall be made by any of them or any other person whatever that shall be valid in law, and again if any of these children shall die leaving no heir, their part is to revert back to the others as is named in this instrument.   The thing intended is that their property respectively is for the benefit of those children, respectively and the lawful being of their body and no how else.

 

Given from under our hand and sealed this 3rd day of October 1817.
